Anyone thinking of starting a new character ...

I'm hoping to start a regular adventuring company, mainly with playtimes in the late evening/night CST or there abouts and looking for others who might be interested.

What I hope to do is form a well-rounded group that adventures together regularly and role plays quests and non-quests situations thoroughly. Ideally, this won't be just a scripted-quest run through group, but people willing to go out and make their own adventures just by expoliring.

Basically, I want to start the traditional idea of a D&D adventuring party. All classes and races welcomed (provided they make sense with the idea of a group formed pre-underdark and ended up in Sanctuary at some point)

Anyone interested? If there's enough interest, we can get together in IRC and work out the details. PM me if you have any questions.

Tanner

This sounds great, I'd encourage players to participate in things like this.

I'm certainly be interested, though the timezones seem to give us a bit of a problem. I'm GMT +1, and I really don't know what CST becomes if you convert it into GMT...

I'm GMT -5 or 6, depending on what daylight savings times we happen to be in. But, I play odd hours, usually 1 a.m. to 3 or 4 a.m. CST, which would be probably early morning to mid day GMT +1. Though, on my days off, my play times vary greatly. If you're interested, I'm sure there'd be enough overlap to make things work.

Also, it's non-exclusive, of course, so, while the idea of a group that worked and travelled together is there and the basis for characters, they could branch out, obviously, when the group isn't around.

I've got a holiday for the rest of this week, so catch me on IRC and maby we can work something out

I'm CST as well, and generally play from midnight to 2 each night, so the timing would work well. I have a few ideas for characters, so if interest in this perks up i'll put some more thought into it. Right now i'm having so much fun with my satirical bard though

I'm -10 GMT and play after 7pm when possible, so that's about perfect for me too. Let me know who your character is so that I know OOC what your intentions are and add to the group. I too would love to branch out and see more than Sanctuary.

I may be interested. I'm GMT-8 and play around the times you're thinking. It will probably depend a bit on what other character concepts/alignments, etc. everyone has. I tend to favor good characters but if there is a good concept for the group I could do otherwise. Maybe this thread should be moved to the preludes forum?

I am GMT -8 I think, and a prelude would be a good idea for a crew like that... most adventuring parties work best if they are bound by history and possibly blood.

Sounds like a good idea, though I'm not sure I'll fit in due to timezone conflict and the fact my play hours are likely to change in the future. So I might be able to join at the start but I'm not sure if I'll be able to continue later.

Best of luck!

DireBadger.

Something like a heroes of the lance ? With caramon and raistlin? A close knit group does have some good hooks for stories.

However I play at sporadic times, so I'd likely be a liability for that sort of group rather than a benefit. And I do like playing different characters.

I'm sure though if it was just one time in the week sometime in the weekend I could probably do it. I'm more than happy to play one character at one time of the week for continuity.

I'm game...

said the deer before it got shot in the ass.. Anyhoo

After playing characters who only ever saw double digit damage when it was flying over their own heads, I've decided that I'm all about the powerbuilds now. Therefore, since I can't log on irc, here's my char idea:

a pure dwarven rogue, with a dorfen waraxe, towershield + chain

aka as much pwn as you can possibly fit into a small dorfen package... Yar, that didn't sound right...

Malkavian Anyhoo

stats you say? why of course

str 16 dex 12 (full plate once we get to level 9 by day 2 of questin') con 17

rest of the nonsense = 10 (pwn is not synonymous with Intwischa)

Now i know what u'r thinking; Can this sink any lower?

Why sure!

Someone call teh cliche police because I will be:

* talking with one of them barely coherent dwarven accents. :O

* wielding an axe :O :O

* being a smith :O :O :O

* loving the ale! .... Oh NO, HE DIDn't

That's right. I went there.

Don't worry, I will not be doing such things as putting points into tumble when i get my plate or naming the dorf Beefcake...

Or will I? dun dun dun

I'm pretty sure the DMs have said that they are more impressed with the amount of damage a char does rather than leet emotage such as:

*nods*

and the ever impressive:

*nods slowly*

Or I may be completely wrong about this... Will have to double check...

Tomorrow.

Seriously, that's the guy that I'd like to play. A treasure hunter of sorts.

Malkavians post is going to get deleted pretty soon (as opposed to locking this thread), simply because it has utterly no relevance to this post, or indeed to planet earth.

Back to pertinent points - I heartily endorse group concepts. It's hard to get started, but totally worth it if it works out, so this gets a thumbs up, good luck folks.

Sorry, sorry - I'll not be posting any more jokes/silly stuff. It was just my way of saying that I'd be interested in this, don't want to get the thread locked.

To clarify, I meant that that's the type of character that I'd like to play in tanner's adventuring group, but I think I'd do more good to this group now if I didn't join.

So, good luck, guys.

Nah, it's fine if you want to join, you're fine RPer, the post was just utterly baffling ;)

Loved it, personally. :)

As for the group, I wish you the best of luck; These groups can be great fun if they get off with a good start.

I'd love for this group to come in through a prelude. I think that's a wonderful idea. Ideally, they'd be people who grouped pre-In game, but you're right, a prelude would really let everyone get a feel for each other.

Sounds like there is some interest, which gets me excited. How about we set a time around 10 p.m. CST on Wednesday to meet in IRC. I'll create a new channel and anyone who wants and thinks they'd be interested enough to play can come in and we can discuss things like party alignment, characters, and classes, etc.

If that time isn't good for someone who's really interested, let me know, and perhaps we can alter it to get everyone who's interested involved. If you can't make it, but really want to play in this, also let me know, we can work around not being at the IRC meeting.

We spoke about this, Tanner, but if you could let me know what types of characters the others will be playing after you guys talk about it in chat, I can make a character that will take care of whatever the party is lacking.

Metro_Pack just utterly baffling

I get that alot, but thanks, Metro and Wrex.

I'm really interested in being a part of this, but probably won't be at the IRC meeting. If its ok, I'll put together my thoughts and a few character ideas and pm it to you, Tanner, and you can share it at the meeting or just keep it in mind. Also, whatever you decide at the IRC meeting I can work with.

~fishingpenguin

Same here, I will not be able to make that time, but I can send you info on what I had in mind with my character and his relation to the group.

Edit: please check your private messages.

Tanner please... GMT ... not cst.. use the standard it's not that hard

You know, us folk in Central Standard Time would say the same thing.

Yeah, isn't Australia something like -50 GMT?

:)

Well, there wasn't a huge turnout for the chat, but that might have something to do with the timezone posting :)

Anyway, for anyone's interested, here's the transcript.

* Now talking in #adventuringgroup * fishingpenguin has joined #adventuringgroup <Tanner> Howdy. We'll wait a few minutes to see if anyone else is coming *crosses fingers* <fishingpenguin> Sounds good <fishingpenguin> i'm pretty excited about this, so i hope people show *grins* <Tanner> Me too * Arkov has joined #adventuringgroup <Tanner> I played on Arabel, and I had the most fun when there was a regular group of us who all intereacted really well and went on as many non-scripted self adventures as possible. <Tanner> We'll wait a couple more minutes, see who shows. I talked to a couple people via pm who were interested but couldn't make this meeting. <fishingpenguin> k <Tanner> Well, unfortunately, this looks like it might be it, so for everyone's benefit who's here, {:)} I'll run down what the invision is. <fishingpenguin> Oh, I'm so excited *quivers* <Tanner> Basically, what I hope to do is form the kind of group that is your prototypical D&D pnp adventuring group. <Tanner> Now, that doesn't mean they're mutually exclusive within EFU. Of course, we welcome along anyone who wants to go about with us, and don't frown on going off on your own. <Tanner> But at the heart of it all, is a core group. <Tanner> Ideally, the characters would have an alignment that is somewhat aligned with the other characters, but not exactly. <Tanner> And it doesn't mean that there couldn't be some inter-group conflict of sorts. I think it's totally within the realm of possibility for a group to be consisted of all ranges of alignment. <Tanner> Just cause you're evil doesn't mean you're out to kill the group. Might be that you're just quick to look out for yourself in some situations. <Tanner> But at the heart, some way or another, this group ended up in Sanctuary, and now they intend to make the best of a bad situation. <Tanner> Along that D&D pnp group idea would be characters that compliment each other. <Tanner> I.E. Figher, Rogue, Mage, Priest, etc. etc. <Tanner> I'm open to playing just about anything, so I'll see what everone else wants to play, and go from there. <Tanner> Since there wasn't a huge turnout for this, I'll post this transcript in the thread on the forum, and ask anyone who's interested to send me ideas for the kinds of characters they'd play, and we can see what we can get going. <Tanner> Either of you have any ideas or anything to add, or any questions? <fishingpenguin> Sounds really good to me... I'd just like to get it going soon. <Tanner> Hopefully within a week or so, we can have all the components together, and perhaps a prelude will be running sometime in that area that we can hop on to. <fishingpenguin> As far as alignment goes, I'd kinda prefer to fall on the 'good' side, as I'm much more comfortable with that, but I'm up for whatever the group decides. <Tanner> Like I said, I think it can be pretty fluid. <Tanner> I could even see it being like the group in the Avatar series, with less loftier goals :) <fishingpenguin> Yeah :) I sent you a pm with my char ideas already, so if you haven't gotten it just let me know. <Tanner> I got it. I appreciate the variety. :) <fishingpenguin> Heh... well feel free to plug any one of them in however it would fit best. <fishingpenguin> Good job on getting this together, and I hope the others who are interested get back to you soon. <Tanner> Awesome. If there's nothing else, sorry for not having more people here. <fishingpenguin> Alright, well I'll be watching the forums. (eagerly I might add) <Tanner> Thanks for coming guys.

So, there you go. If anyone's still interested, please pm me with the race/class/alignment of the type of character you want to play, and we'll try to get the ball rolling on this.

Here's the list of people I have that are interested so far, along with who/what they want to play. I've also gotten some interest from some who want to be assosciated once we arrive with current characters. For these purposes, they are not listed below, but we welcome all that are interested.:

Player | Race | Class | Alignment Tanner Half-orc Fighter/Barb CG Malkavian Shield Dwarf Rogue TN Leaders&followers Elf/Human Non-monk ----- Fishingpenguine Elf Druid NG The Beggar Unspecified----------------------------->

This is a pretty good start, and I dare say could be enough to get things going. Ideally, those listed above without specifics would pick classes that compliment the group, but it's not necessary. Let me know if something strikes you though. And I can alter my class to cleric or mage if the need arises.

Anyone else that's interested, feel free to send me a pm.

Hey Tan, would you have any set time for everyone to play. I.E. "Let's all get on at about 3 this Sunday!"

Or would it be just getting together whenever a few happened to be on?

Gracias,

da Garem

Ideally we'd all be on normally at about the same hours. I have a main character I intend to keep playing when a majority of the group's not around, but yeah, I'd defintley say there'd be instances where we'd say "Hey, we're all going to go out exploring beyond the badlands on Sunday, 4 p.m. CST, 10 p.m. GMT, 1 a.m. GMT +3 , maybe we'll come across something interesting."

I'll put the following pure fighter into the proverbial pot for a bit of on the side fun--

Beggar / Human / Fighter / CE

Okay,

I've gotten about as much response on this as it looks like I'm going to get, so don't see any reason why we can't get started. If you're still interested, fantastic, make your characters and let's hop in game. While I'd love to have this go through a prelude, I'm skeptical that we'd all be able to be on at the same time/night. There's one coming up though, so if you'd rather go through that prelude, go right ahead. Unfortunately, I have to work that night.

If you had mentioned you were interested and have since reconsidered, for whatever reason, no worries. That's totally understandable.

If you are still interested or are not listed above but would like to be involved, feel free to pm me. I hope to make my character tonight and start playing.

I probably won't be on tonite, but I'm still in. What do we need more, a mage or a cleric, since it looks like we dont have either, and thats what I'll be

From a pure party build standpoint, I'd say cleric, but, to be honest, play what you want to play. We don't have to be optimized for successs.

Alright, Cleric it is. I just have a question before i make this character-Are we going to all know each other? I know we would if we did a prelude, but we aren't going to apparently. Do we have a backstory as to why we are in the underdark? I don't think I saw that anywhere in the thread.

Good question. I would think we would all know each other. I can come up with a backstory and pm it to you guys.

I know I said I'd pm it, but I figured I'd just post the groups background here in case anyone else was interested. This gives a general idea of how the group came together and ended up in Sanctuary, but leaves plenty of gray area for personal character background and development.

Hope this sparks an interest from those already expressing interest and anyone else that wants to play along. And if by chance a DM had time and the intitative to run a prelude for this in the next week, I'm sure that everyone who's interested, including me, could hold off for a week or so to arrange such.

The various souls that make up the XXXX Adventuring Commpany (taking suggestions for names) are as varied as the different races of Faeurn, and with good measure.

Thrown together in the wake of the return of the city of Shade, the members of the group first met when each heeded, for his or her own personal reasons, a call to aid in the defense of Tilverton and it's outlying Hamlets. Luckily for the group, they weren't in the town itself upon it's destruction.

After the town's demise and a pause in the hostilities between the Cormyrian Army and the armies of Shade, the groups members thought it wise to leave the conflict behind and set out together for what, at the time, appeared would lead to a less obviously bleak ending than the war in Cormyr.

While not a perfect blend of personalities or skills, the group accomplished several small quests and tasks for pay and plunder, strengthening the bonds of the company.

However, on a recent excursion into a cave system that resulted in hours that became days in the rock, the company became lost, and now, face their greatest test yet as a group.

Its been a rough week for me, did you guys kick this off in game already? If not, when do we start?

Unfortunately not. Also, unfotunately, I haven't gotten to much follow up response from intital interests, so, right now not much is happening with it.
