Report to the Watch, to be read by Cail Durris

A day or two ago, two young halflings named Tarnis and Anaril journeyed with a group of adventurers out into the Underdark to save a missing child. However, Anaril found himself set upon by foes and became wounded. He was healed by a cleric in the party named Kethen, who claimed to be a Banite, and attempted to convert the young halfling to worship of the Lord of Darkness.

The halfling named Tarnis was set upon by Kethen, Anaril, and the remaining members of the party, who appeared to be in league with Kethen. He barely escaped, and fled back to Sanctuary with the pack allegedly on his heels, where he found safety in the town. Kethen, when found, is to be charged with the following crimes:

1. Openly claiming to be a Banite 2. Inciting a mob against a citizen of Sanctuary 3. Attempting violence against a citizen of Sanctuary

Of the others in the party, not much is known, save that one was named Xalvian. As a friend of Tarnis, I am reporting this incident on his behalf as he is still too shaken to put quill to parchment.

After an exceedingly long day, Cail recieves the letter, scowls as he reads it and after (with much difficulty) suppressing an urge to ball it up, he takes a seat in the Watch Lounge and pens a reply

Jafari Purepalm, There is nothing I can do for the halflings, against Kethen, for a variety of reasons.

First of all, while I have a good idea who this Kethen is, I don't know him well enough to recognize him when I see him. Second, by your letter, it sounds to me that the halfling Anaril nearly died, was healed, and then was attempted to be converted to Bane, whereupon he attacked the halfling named Tarnis, along with several others. Furthermore, while crimes occuring outside Watch jurisdiction may be prosecuted, it is exceedingly difficult to prove anything, and is generally wasted time to attempt it.

You have offered up no proof the crimes even occurred. For all I know, you and the halfling have a personal vendetta against the alleged banite. It's important you understand the position I'm in. You have not provided a description of the halfling Tarnis, so that I might question him, or any of the suspects.

As I said before, there's nothing I can do to aid you. Unless you can provide me credible witnesses, proof of the attacks, motive, any tangible evidence at all, or a viable method of questioning these people, there is little that can be done.

In the future, take note of these things before you waste my time with baseless accusations on other citizens. And I recommend picking up a lawbook and finding where it says that stating your religion is a crime, Banite or not.
