Topics - Easy To Remember

Dear Apothars,

I have been incredibly impressed by both the heroism and cosmological talent of Nadiri Tallariel, who has given me quite the grand impression of the Astrologers considering he somehow remains simply a sweeping apprentice.

Before I spoke with him, along the ash road we were traveling together, I was an absolute, clueless dullard in regards to matters of the infinite Cosmos above. But before my eyes, a perfect picture was painted of the heavens themselves as he explained the stars in depth to me, mere moments after having beaten a goblin to death with his sextant. He cut a truly stunning figure with his chin held high, ranting on and on about celestial matters with blood dripping from his apparatus until I, frankly, began to back away slowly. And then he saw fit to demonstrate his knowledge to me via practical example; an additional, surely terrified, goblin was obliterated with a flick of his wrist and a recitation of stellar coordinates, crushed to dust by the weight of the heavens, before I was quizzed on how he did it.

I passed with full marks. His lessons proved immaculate.

He saved me, that day. Not just from two skulking greenskin, but from my own ignorance. I only hope the rest of your Nadiri prove as impressive.

With boundless respect,

Suggestions / Let Sorcerers Get Spells A Level Early
March 03, 2023, 04:37:20 PM
With obtaining level 8 being much more of a challenge now in v6 and the revert to spells known for sorcerers, I'd love for Sorcerers to get their one (1) 4th level spell known at level 7 rather than level 8, as every other primary caster does.

Bug Reports / Wall of Fire DC
December 30, 2020, 04:21:02 AM
Each round, Wall of Fire's reflex DC decreases by one. But once it reaches a DC of 0, it then on the next tick wraps around to a DC of 126 instead and begins decreasing again from there.

Bug Reports / Ash Magewand, Improved Description
December 26, 2020, 08:00:40 PM
When upgraded via assembling pieces, the "Ash Magewand" is replaced with an "Ash Magewand, Improved", which is missing both a description and the slot restriction of the original item.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Charlotte Royer
December 05, 2020, 07:45:21 AM

The actual Charlotte Royer died prior to current events in deeper rings, and was interrogated and replaced with a Sibilant agent, a spiteful but patient yuan-ti intent on slowly worming her way into a trusted position to abuse on the Empire's behalf, while limiting how often she got her hands dirty herself. She was an app I was quite excited for at the time, but as my available free time dwindled I started to feel as if she'd been alive unreasonably long without really doing much of note. She was able to pass as human with face uncovered until suffering a blood curse, but often forgot to blink, would become fixated by fire and severely uncomfortable in cold, and if her pack was ever searched, the scales she'd unsuccessfully tried to burn away would be made obvious.

I don't have very many screenshots of the cooler non-spoiler moments she was involved in because of a loss of files, but her various sabotages included, among other things, assisting in the freeing of Harad, removing the Toyfollies from the Peerage Ward to nip a threat to Sibilant remnants in the bud, helping Catsby break laws of reality and decorum, recruiting compromised retainers, and briefly becoming the Champion of House Velstra for the sole purpose of ceding all her points to the Nothing while feigning ignorance, before asking Kastian to make a sending pretending to have kidnapped and coerced her, after having implied to him that she was a doppleganger serving the Nothing.

Her biggest failure was not succeeding in her mission to catch and eliminate Aethelwine Silver. One of several assassinations demanded by her handler, she ringran for a while for the express purpose of getting closer to him, but ultimately missed her shot to extract what she felt was vengeance for the death of Szka'zul.

My ideal death was her being entrusted with a McGuffin, smashing it against the floor, and babbling lizard lore before being executed. But ultimately Charlotte died trying to pad her resume of feigned "blunders" with heroic acts,  without the silly, villainous unmasking I'd have preferred, thanks to some embarrassing gameplay mistakes on my part.

Also, I had a lot of fun penning letters. The idea was that Charlotte had spent too long among House Velstra by this point, and became afflicted with a most unlizardlike flair for the dramatic. I also got to write some lore books on the Empress, "She Who Wrings Hearts", that you can now find ingame.

To Aethelwine, her most despised target.
To the Knaves, who she shared a Nightmare with. After their identities were more or less made public, she was confident they'd puzzled out she was Sibilant from the fact that their shared Nightmare took the form of being doomed lizardfolk hunted by humans.

Bug Reports / Royal Huntsman Bounties Outdated
August 19, 2020, 11:30:58 PM
At some point, the Royal Huntsman's bounties were adjusted, but only on the forums and not yet in game.

Updated, on forums:

QuoteBy decree of the Royal Court, these most prestigious bounties are offered to those who complete successful hunts for the Royal Huntsman!

- Upon the roaming Mongrelfolk, driven back into the Mongrelwoods, a treasure of minor prestige shall be delivered to the house of the responsible retainer!
- Upon discovery of infiltrating Changelings and their ilk within the Peerage; for stopping their mischief before it can take root in our ward a treasure of moderate prestige shall be delivered to the house of the responsible retainer!
- Upon the death of dangerous and feared monsters a bounty of a Hunting Trophy shall be offered! As well a treasure of moderate prestige shall be delivered to the house of the responsible retainer!
- Upon the capture and death of the Changeling in possession of one of the green masks of their leaders a Hunting Trophy shall be offered! As well a treasure of immense prestige shall be delivered to the house of the responsible retainer!

Bug Reports / Stealthy Feat

A recent patch note said that Stealthy was changed from +2/+2 to +3/+3. Unless my math is off, it's still only giving me +2/+2.

Bug Reports / Summon Creature 7 Dog
February 08, 2020, 03:43:52 PM
With a +2 bonus, Summon Creature 4 correctly summoned a Summon Creature 6 dog.

However, casting Summon Creature 5 with this same boost didn't result in a Summon Creature 7 dog, but instead a Summon Creature 6 dog with a permanent duration, even persisting through rests.

The creature's name in question, both VI and VII for dog theme, is Two Headed Doom Hound.

Bug Reports / Feeblemind
December 03, 2019, 12:55:19 AM
QuoteFeeblemind has a 30% chance of dispelling the target from ALL PfA effects (effect applied before the save against confusion).
Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus Divination increases the chance to dispel PfA effects by 60% and 90% respectively.

Feeblemind does not dispel PfA effects as mentioned above. Or, at the very least, SF and GSF Divination don't boost the chance at all.

Feeblemind also instantly destroys any placables struck with it that can be targeted; chairs explode if their zero intelligence is disturbed it seems.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Verata Bosque
October 15, 2019, 10:44:48 AM
[hide=Application (can't recall if this version was the draft I submitted)]
QuoteVerata Bosque, tiefling, 20, lawful evil, lifestealer sorcerer (martial prof, throwing axes and greataxe)

Requesting tiefling, local member of the Butchers.

-Biography
A devil-blooded consequence of seams and mortals intermingling, Verata's gang enforcer mother, a feared Butcher in profession and reputation both, raised her rather than disposed of her because of little more than a gallows humor laugh at the sight of baring a daughter born with cloven feet. An affectionless childhood of callouses, bruises, threshing meat that reminds her of herself and avoiding the freak-mocking gaze of parent and strangers alike resulted in a coldy embittered young woman who displays fiendish flesh withering magic and a talent for cleavers started young in her "Service to the Krown."

-Goals
Verata will serve as a frequent recruiter for the Butchers. Deadpan and blunt, she will quickly single out those she deems to have potential and attempt to force a backroom conversation on the matter, especially when it comes to unaffiliated Ticker residents who demonstrate a readiness to feud with Orzans, at the Dispensary and otherwise. She will often push for Ticker residents who openly mock the Butchers to face a backally subdual beating rather than being murdered in the street or the like, though repeat offenders, and anyone deemed to have ties to Orza, will see far less leeway. An auxilary goal will be pressing for a Ticker Square less willing to gleefully trade with Peers, as Verata will be often disgusted by merchants willing to sell to folks who were mocking them moments ago.

-Personality
Direct orders from Krown or his lieutenants will be followed with a single-minded severity that may often be excessively dedicated, Verata's sense of worth defined by her usefulness, as she feels she has to live up to her late mother's brutal shadow while forever certain she's considered lesser for being less human than she was, whether or not evidence dictates otherwise. Her personal evil is one of familial obligation to the Butchers, a lack of any other learned behavior, and violence and duty being in her devilish blood. Outside of direct orders there are times when she'd suffer from a subconscious soft spot for outcasts and freaks that remind her of herself... and in turn a much crueller hand raised towards those who remind her of her mother.

-Player Intentions
I aim to spur activity with an interesting, intimidating faction that currently has little player representation, hoping that I can encourage more. I'm also interested in enjoying the challenge of portraying a City local, while also forcing myself to embrace a more openly conflict driving character and earning some broader PvP experience as a player. In addition to this, frankly, I enjoy the idea of a prominent member of the Butchers having cloven feet.

It's pretty possible she'll die within moments, though! Thanks for reading!

[hide=Verata's Wanted Poster, by happybot/Waffles][/hide]

After Lori, Verata was an attempt to get as far away from my usual good-aligned character wheelhouse as possible. I dislike when people treat past hardship and cruelty they've experienced as an excuse to be cruel to others in turn, so someone who did so constantly was what I aimed to depict. She was genuinely utterly commit to Krown, and genuinely hurt every time a Butcher died or she couldn't see a debt to someone she respected repaid, but beyond that Verata was a cruel, self-loathing bully who eventually started hiding behind a veneer of professionalism and politeness.

I had intended for her to always be loyal henchman material to whatever PC happened to be calling the shots in the Butchers; she was a grumpy broody enforcer whose one goal was a word of praise from Krown, a perceived father figure after a childhood partly spent in the barracks. But as Verata narrowly, luckily, survived through four dead PC lieutenants and ended up the only remaining veteran Butcher quite a few times, she took to underhanded leadership during the competition with the Stonebuilders over the defense contract for Ticker Square and eventually earned that word of praise.

All in all, I'd say her biggest accomplishment was her very underhanded, criminal part in helping the Butchers to supplant the Stonebuilders as the defenders of Ticker Square. But the moment she took the most triumph in would be Krown coming to trust her to the point of effectively betting his soul against Ib'javi that she wouldn't betray him. And she didn't, not even when it meant her own soul being taken instead. A fun bittersweetness, not only were the shards she'd bartered for stolen, Verata's last briefing to the Butchers was "If I return intact from being collected by Ib'avi, don't trust me anymore." And when she did return, they didn't, Krown included.

By the end, Verata was wanted dead by Arbiters, Nephezar, Stonebuilders and briefly Ib'javi. Early survival was thanks to luck, only one bounty to deal with and strong protective allies, while late survival was then thanks to being very kitted out and high level. I'm still not very skilled at PvP, but I believe I at least know enough now to not make a fool of myself on future characters, even without ridiculous gorilla strength vaporizing enemies on impact.

I think there's a few things I could have done better playing a villain, but it was a super fun ride start to finish and a good learning experience. Unfortunately, though, I'm still awful at remembering to take cool scenic screenshots in time and there's this big gap where I didn't get many screenshots of the folks she ran with for the bulk of her existence: Clovis Knotwise, Sunwela Alvarez and Alexander Tallstag kept her alive and were seen as family, while Maldon Kirkland bankrolled her, spied for her and was seen as her only friend outside the Butchers.

[hide=Loot]
Earned by kidnapping High Thaumaturge Eryeth Cotte, with Santiago Lopez as distraction, and trading her for Adrian Winespill's helmet. Krown had placed a bounty on the Velstran family heirloom, and the promise to return it was later used at Verata's suggestion to convince Adrian to help the Butchers take one of the defense contract votes.
[Hide=Mother's Blessings (Pigadig)] [/hide]

Earned by kidnapping Royal Inquisitor Ciraco, who Krown had a live capture bounty on. This attack succeeded entirely thanks to Sunwela Alvarez who got recruited and given a new leg by Krown for her help.
[Hide=Pain Barrier (Pigadig)][/hide]

Earned after work for Silas Sparrowbroth, during an unusual Butcher / Elves alliance she doubled down on, to bring him a rare wine and secure a vote. When I was asked what slot I'd like, I thought I'd be cheeky and say "boots", figuring I'd see horseshoes or a different slot all together. Instead, the result was amusing jinglebell anklets like a reindeer, with very cool flavor.

Suggestions / Drinks at Butcher Quartermaster
September 04, 2019, 08:33:19 AM
When I have reason to give a PC hooch from Krown's, I usually opt to drop a hundred gold on one of the alcohol-themed potions from the quartermaster on the lower level, or I just hand off alcohol taken from elsewhere and handwave it as being sourced from the Butchers.

So it's not the least bit critical, but it'd be convenient if Raymond Grimes sold non-magical bottles of hooch that were a little cheaper.
