Correspondence / A Letter to Estellise Azimi
December 19, 2023, 10:29:22 PM
This letter is found after an Ash Storm like driftwood carried in by the wind. There's no trace of a courier or any tracks to indicate the providence of its arrival. It's as if fate itself conspired to deliver the letter directly to Estellise. The envelope is sealed in crimson wax emblazoned with the sigil of an open eye and it reeks all sickly sweet.

Estellise,

You are dearly missed by your friends and family in Ephia's Well. Your pilgrimage has been long. Let it come to an end. It's time for you to come back to where you belong. Seer Rebecca, Hypatia, and I have been eagerly awaiting your return. I've been cultivating a garden while you've been away. The flowers will be blooming soon. It's inevitable. They're going to be beautiful. Won't you come home and watch them blossom with me?

Suggestions / Re: Spells Suggestions Thread

Sunder Mind
Caster Level: Astrologian 3, Sorcerer 3, Wizard 3
Innate Level: 3
School: Enchantment
Range: Medium
Duration: 1 round/level
Save: will half
Additional Counter Spells: Clarity

You hammer a psychic wedge directly into the mind of your foe, attempting to splinter their sense of self. This spell does 1d5 Psychic damage for every two caster levels. It does half damage on a successful will save. Regardless of whether or not the save is passed, the force of the mental impact begins to leave behind temporary cracks on the target's psyche. They incur a 25% Psychic damage vulnerability for one round a caster level.

Every subsequent cast of this spell resets the duration of the vulnerability to its maximum and increases the vulnerability by an additional 25%. This can continue accumulate indefinitely until the effect is allowed to expire. This spell is blocked by mind spell immunity effects.

GSF Divination: gives the spell a 50% chance to dispel and pierce Clarity (but not Mind Blank.)
GSF Necromancy: makes the spell apply a stacking -1 will save penalty in addition to the vulnerability.

Torment
Caster Level: Astrologian 6
Innate Level: 7
School: Divination
Descriptor: Evil
Range: Touch
Duration: Permanent
Save: none

You mark your target with a gruesome astral brand attuned to the Stalking Star. This potent sigil is a greater curse that renders their presence visible to a gruesome unkillable Aberration known only as the Huntsman. The Huntsman is an unstoppable and immortal entity fixated only on stalking and torturing its target. It manifests at the initial casting of the spell and persists for a number of rounds equal to half the spell's caster level. It can only perceive and be perceived by its target.

The curse waxes and wanes in power, and can only draw the attention of the Huntsman so long. Once the initial manifestation ends the curse's power begins to build again. Every turn the percent chance for the Huntsman to manifest again increases by 2%, starting at 0%, and eventually increasing to 100%. This percentage is checked and tested right before it increases once a turn. Manifestations reset the likelihood to 0%. This cycle can only be broken with a Remove Curse spell.

Creatures bested by the Huntsman are not granted the mercy of death. It instead seizes them and disappears with its caught quarry. They are never seen again. Defeat in this way is a permanent end.

This spell can be cast on items like Bestow Curse. Items cursed in this way summon the Huntsman, still, but take longer to gather power. The percent chance to summon the Huntsman increases at a rate of 1% instead of 2%. Items cursed this way cannot be uncursed permanently, though they can be rendered inert and removable for a turn with a successful application of Remove Curse.

Flensing Gale
Caster Level: Druid 2
Innate Level: 2
School: Evocation
Components: verbal, somatic
Range: Short
Area of effect: 15m cone
Duration: Instantaneous
Save: reflex half

Force forwards a brief and incredibly powerful burst of wind that carries with it enough force to blow away the flesh off the bones of your foes. This spell does 1d8 Wind damage every 3 caster levels. The force of the blast disperses and dispels magical clouds and surfaces, ending these effects early.

GSF Enchantment: renders the force of your blast particularly beguiling, attempting to knock down those caught in the blast as if hit by Balagarn's Iron Horn.
GSF Abjuration: your winds become magically flensing. They attempt to dispel magical effects on creatures as Lesser Dispel but with a modifier of -10 to the roll.

A plain and simple letter sealed with burgundy wax finds its way to the Scribes. It comes with three signatures, two from officers of the Cinquefoil Rose.

Suggestions / Stellar Blade GSF Evocation benefit
August 24, 2023, 03:15:25 AM
Give the following benefits depending on SF/GSF Evocation to Stellar Blade.
SF Evocation: +4 Astronomy
GSF Evocation: +8 Astronomy

This results in two things.
1.) It pushes characters on the threshold of being able to get an extra magic damage from Stellar Blade over that threshold without guaranteeing they'll pass it unless they have decent attribute points/some investment in Astronomy already.
2.) It makes GSF Evocation Astrologians better at evoking, and means that GSF Illusion isn't the only route for increasing your Astronomy ranks.

Astrologians having a reason to enspell their staves and make them cool and glowy looking is also a just a plus in general I think. I recognize this could be strong in conjunction with GSF Illusion Project Star Chart benefits, but I don't think that's that big of a deal given it's a 4 feat cost on a generally feat starved class.

Personal suggestions and recommendations:

1.) Do not give a Voice to people who become Balladeer or Balestriere.

Explanation: the Rose is the source of a huge number of Voices compared to the other factions. It gives them a huge amount of influence over politics relative to the other factions due to both the number of Cinquefoil factions and the number of players they draw in relative in comparison. I think this should probably be amended. It is important to remember they can easily group fundraise Voices, too.

2.) The Janissaries should continue to receive free Voices at their normal rank.

Explanation: I think players should remain heavily incentivized to play Janissaries. Janissaries should be rewarded for sticking with and surviving the experience long-term. As a rule of thumb, they still won't have that large of an influence on politics because of the apparent difficulty of achieving ranks that reward a Voice. It's an excellent chase goal.

3.) I recommend adding a rank between Balladeer and Lyrist that rewards a Voice and has more authority.

Explanation: I personally believe that the jump from Balladeer to Lyrist and Balestriere to Condottiero is very steep comparatively, and that it doesn't necessarily feel natural to have such a wide jump. I recommend a rank between both to add additional internal authority to these factions in absence of NPC/DM directive. These roles should reward a Voice because it's a logical extension of this authority.

---

I think the Astronomers and Sisters are both fine where they are at as factions in regards to ranks and rewards for those ranks. Over all, I think Voice acquisition should be made harder in general, but beyond tweaking it as a faction rank reward that's a player-side goal. I think the Astronomers and Janissaries have it 'just right' at the moment.

also brain worm but maybe long time scribes should get voices ?? idk, i think they need some love but idk what
