This is one of those times where I'm almost reluctant to write something, because whatever I say will be so much less than, and never do justice to, what I would like to describe, and the praise I'd like to offer.

Isolde is an emblematic case study in my favourite kind of PC: the ones that become alive, ensouled, gain a life and a mind of their own, and grow organically, and dynamically -- because the player has the talent, the patience and the openness to allow the PC to achieve its own existence.

Such characters both evolve freely, and yet (like a real person) always remain essentially themselves, throughout the unpredictable course of their lives. This was what was fascinating to watch about Isolde. How she changed, so much and significantly, and yet always remained the same old Isolde.

Isolde was a fantastic fictional character in her own right, and always very endearing and entertaining to me.

Isolde played an enormous role in Alice's development and entire history. She was Alice's first friend and ally in Sanctuary, her truest comrade and her most faithful companion. As these screenshots chronicle, their journey was a parallel one (I never realized they were created so close in time to each other) and it was just ... insanely rewarding, challenging and genuinely moving to be a part of. Like reading a great novel.

Their friendship was also an amazing place from which, for me as a player, to discover the incredible setting of Sanctuary and EfU:R for the first time.

For me, interacting with Isolde and with Claire were perhaps the main motivation for me to invest so much time into Alice. Isolde and Claire remain my two favourite PCs ever.

Thank you for authoring Isolde, thank you for your encouragement and friendliness as a player, and well done on a truly original creation.

And lastly: these are some amazing screenshots, most of which I've never seen before so thank you for sharing them.

If it was part of the final Diluvian plot, sure.

In that case: Sicily Comnene.

Very well done! Such a perfect elf. It was a true pleasure to interact with Saevel, especially in the politics of the Council. I always knew there was so much of Saevel I would never get to see, so I'm very grateful for the diligent documentation you've done. Thank you, and have fun going forward.

What a great concept...what I thought to be just a worminger turned into a fantastic and frightening wormy woman of awesomeness!

RIP The great worm woman!

Her evolution was really remarkable to see and was something I reflected on as a player. I didn't know the PC very well, but what I saw of her made clear that you are an excellent RPer! Well done!

Oh, Marbury ... harebrained, weasely, hilariously paranoid, tactless, coffee-addicted Marbury! I loved Marbury Grant, who should have been named GRANT MARBURY in my opinion!

I lost count of how many times and with how many variations Alice privately referred to Grant as a "weasel", once even quoting Shakespeare to do so!

Alice and Grant's mutual antipathy was a rivalry of legend. It was so fun to see them just endlessly bicker and argue and talk back at each other until poor Claire lost her mind and the other WaW probably thought of killing them both just to shut them up.

Grant being promoted to Agent, while Alice was stuck as an Engineer, was one of her darkest moments ... and she was convinced that Marbury was going to make her life Hell, and possibly have/get her killed, as an Agent. Hence, she desperately hoped that he would die during his trials -- something not lost on their colleagues. >___>

I do take satisfaction in the fact that their rivalry was not as "lighthearted" as it might have seemed to others, but actually deadly serious, and mostly kept in check because of common goals and outside pressures ... and in the end, despite indeed having helped and saved each other on other occasions, they ultimately very much fell victim to their own mutual paranoia, which had just been needing certain conditions to finally break out. Fitting.

Kudos for a character that was both amusing, and tragic, and dynamic, and someone that you always had to factor into your calculations ... >___>

The past few months have been just an incredible blast. I don't know how Howland and Dan managed to convince me to come back to NWN after six years, but I am glad and grateful to them that they did. This was going to be one last stint, and I think it became the best one.

Alice Fairclow was quite an experience to create, play, develop and just watch, as she grew, expressed herself, and changed. I can honestly say that she took on a life of her own, and I'm very pleased about that.

I want to thank and express my love for the many fantastic players here, just blowing me away with their skill, imagination, wit and kindness. I'm afraid that I will forget to mention someone, but I especially want to express my affection for the Meme, Fitzwilliam, Stranger, Alpha, Dina, Caster, VP, Hound, Darius, Jastra, Zarquon, Wundy and the players of Velathyl and Velathia.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's the PCs of the aforementioned players that I had the most fun with and came to enjoy the most. I won't bother to list them, you know who they are, but let me emphasize how much I loved those characters and enjoyed every second of being in hearing range of them. Claire Chambers, with whom Alice also had an unhealthy obsession ICly, is by far my favourite PC in all my time in NWN. (Closely followed by MALEVIA CINDERSCOURGE, with whom I regret not getting to interact more and whom I have had to admire from afar!)

I want to thank the DMs for their kindness and supportiveness, especially given that I am officially the most mechanically worthless player in the history of EfU ... You told some amazing stories and helped Alice along in some fantastic directions, which I am bitterly disappointed I won't be able to explore. I wish I'd been able to see Alice's story through to its proper ending, but ... her WIS was too low to stay away from permadeath capers with the Linderils. >___>

I especially want to thank SanTelmo, Ironside and Samophlange. And above all I want to thank Howland for creating this dark, magnificent edifice of a setting -- Ymph, the Archipelago, and Dunwarren -- which has, to my repeated surprise, stimulated and spurred some of the most intense and colourful bursts of creativity I've ever been seduced by, this summer just as all those years ago.

I am so glad I got to experience this particular setting of Dunwarren, which was entirely new to me. Many of you have been playing it it for many years; I can't tell you how wondrous and exciting it is to discover for the first time, however.

It's going to be difficult weaning myself off the addiction of EfU, and winding that creativity back down to non-insomniac levels. And I'm going to miss you all, and your PCs, terribly.

I wish I had taken more screenshots. So many amazing interactions, dialogues, and strange, funny, unexpected, creepy and sweet situations that deserved to be documented. Months of incredible RP!

This is all I got:

Sanctuary endures! (Just don't seize power over it on Hammer 23rd; it's bad luck!)

It's one thing to be a "crusher" who understands the ins and outs of how to succeed mechanically in EFU and to be a terrifying person to conflict with. It's another thing entirely to have the gravitas and poise of an NPC while being incredibly engaging, dynamic, and full of personality. I didn't get to see Rana's ascent to becoming the Harlot, but I did get a lot of small interactions with her over the course of my sparse play times. She was incredible to see interact with the world as this nuanced, tragic last survivor of her company.

Really great stuff. As always, looking forward to the next.
