Statues

Statues was initially a somewhat light-hearted concept of mine. I've wanted to play a Scrapper for a while but wanted to collect something slightly unconventional. The idea came to me to make a Scrapper who believed in collecting wisdom in the form of figurines and Statues and thus the character was born.

I wanted to stray away from the normal monastic orders and take a somewhat different approach to playing the class. So, Statues would follow in the footsteps of an enigmatic monk of incredible power known as the Immovable Sovereign. She would meditate upon the lessons of this eight foot tall demi-God and attempt to do the impossible: emulate him.

I've thoroughly enjoyed playing the character and would particularly like to thank the DMs who really aided her along the path of transformation from a fledgling Scrapper into a resolute Councillor and being of stone. There's a lot I could write about in here, but I honestly need some time to unwind and process everything so I will settle for sharing a few screenshots (sadly. I don't have too many!)

Adventures:

Yes, that's a Halfling on a horse...

Some people just need help to get home...

Statues is in there somewhere, I swear.

Some skeletons are surprisingly not spooky or scary.

A seemingly innocuous meeting.

Who is that mysterious man?

The Council table really isn't practical for halflings.

When the Luggage's caretakers come together...

A firm foundation is necessary for resolution.

The early Scrapstop days.

People had mixed responses to my Luggage-based roleplay.[/hide]

The Luggage barfed this up one day.

Many unfortunates fell victim to the lullaby of the Marble Sovereign.

Introductions and Group Management / The Book Club
April 19, 2018, 03:55:08 PM

The Book Club

Race: Any.
Class: Any.
Alignment: Any Good/Neutral.

Sanctuary is a place that's full of mysteries and intrigue. A place of dark compromises and shades of grey where often what is right and good seems to also be what is farthest from reach. In the midst of this chaos, a small group of friends and companions earnestly work together to do what's right and uncover the truth. A semi-secretive society, they recruit from those who are trustworthy and proven to have good intentions.

The Book Club is somewhat reclusive by nature, but may be suitable for you if you are playing a character that has any of the following qualities:

  • Of good/neutral alignment.
  • Interested in investigating the mysteries of the setting and the Dunwarren Machine.
  • Following the letter trail of Zyphaem Faussad.
  • Of anti-Spellguard sentiments or concerned about their continued power and influence.
  • A would-be hero seeking to stand against the evils hiding in Sanctuary.
  • Someone who likes books (It's a book club, I swear!)

The group is mostly focussed on co-operating to push server plots forward and getting to grips with some of the mysteries and long-running threats of the setting. Like any good semi-secret society there's plenty of room for intrigue, funny handshakes, speaking in riddles and politics. Sometimes, we even get the time to talk about books (though this is not mandatory.)

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Re: Artreez the Broken

Artreez was a fantastic character. It was excellent to watch him grow from an uncertain amnesiac into a competent and fearsome mercenary in his own right. I was thoroughly impressed by how much he changed and adapted over his journey.

Taking a short break for entirely dumb and selfish reasons.

I will be back with renewed enthusiasm soon enough.

Suggestions / Civil Service Paymaster
March 10, 2018, 03:06:38 PM
A somewhat self-serving suggestion, but the House of Governance could do with a paymaster type NPC to allow Civil Servants and Councillors who don't have Final Sanctuary access to withdraw their pay (perhaps with a small transaction 'tax'!)

General Discussion / Re: Character Portraits

Rather sad to see Enkh go as I was particularly enjoying adventuring alongside him. There was always a very genuine sense of foreboding whenever that character was around and you got the feeling that, regardless of how innocuous the task might seem: he would end up performing his duty.  The events surrounding Aistacariel were particularly gut-wrenching moments that will have an impact on my current PC for a long time to come.

I really enjoyed Redhands and I think his deeds stand as a great example. He saw challenges that most PCs would think are insurmountable and faced them down in a direct, rough and tumble way. It was great to be involved in some of his efforts with one of my PCs, even if it didn't end well for them!

God damnit Lahanis.

I thoroughly enjoyed what interactions I had with that character across two PCs. From her strange and slightly manipulative information drops to the good Doctor to Statues' earnest attempts to make Lahanis more neighborly. My only regret is that I didn't get to spend more time with the character!

General Discussion / Re: 2018 Bi-Monthly Feedback
February 03, 2018, 11:55:38 AM
Couple of bits and pieces from me.

I have noticed that there's a bit of an awkward area inbetween levels 6 and 7 where most of the quests are a significant increase in difficulty over the normal 5 max fare. This is all well and good and the extra challenge is definitely interesting, however it resulted in me running into a bit of a rough patch due to the limited numbers of players in my timezone who shared that level range. I know it's a lot of work, but perhaps it would be possible to have more scripted quests in that range that have reduced difficulty but also a reduced maximum player count? I'm thinking puzzles that require two people to solve, small encounters with bandits, that sort of thing. This might just be down to my playing times and lack of knowledge about available quests, however!

All of the DM interactions I have had since returning a few months back have been outstanding, there's defiantly a real sense at the moment that characters can work towards their goals in an active fashion. I also think there's a particularly interesting crop of characters around at the moment that I have enjoyed roleplaying with. One thing I would say, however, is that things are a little light on the GMT afternoon and evening timezone. This is likely something we can work together to solve as players, perhaps through forum posts or other methods that bypass the big timezone divide. It's almost impossible to have great activity across all timezones, but anything that starts and finishes early or late enough for players outside the US timezone to get involved with is always very much appreciated.

Final note: I really like the House of Knowledge and scholarly aspects of EFU, there's so much written history to be found and so many mysteries to solve. I think there's some confusion, however, over how a character can work towards earning a Cloak of Knowledge. Would it be possible for there to be a system where the current Councilor who has claimed the House of Knowledge is able to award them? Perhaps with some kind of requisite financial 'donation' to the House so they're a genuine investment in a scholar of promise. I think having PC scholars who are acknowledged for their contributions is excellent and gives other characters someone they can go to if they want to get involved with a particular mystery, or to find out about an aspect of the setting.

Bug Reports / Butcher Rowls Indomitable Curtain
January 31, 2018, 11:52:04 AM
My PC became trapped in Butcher Rowls' closed down shop in the House of Trade in Sanctuary. The curtain was originally open, however, managed to both shut and lock itself behind my PC. It appears to require a certain key.

Fortunately a swift bit of bashing released me from within.

Suggestions / Small Monk Stance changes.
January 20, 2018, 11:21:47 AM
This one may blur the lines between being a suggestion or a bug report. There seem to be some occasions where items with different names are used to teach the same Monk Stance. For example, the item "Scales of the Deep" teaches the same stance as "Scroll of the Scaled Lizard".

Despite knowing the stance taught by the Scroll of the Scaled Lizard item, my character was still able to use Scales of the Deep, which promptly removed the item and taught her the exact same stance.

Would it be possible to adjust the system so that the stance-teaching item isn't used up if the character already knows the stance? That way the item would at least be preserved so that it could be passed on or sold to other PCs.
