Screen Shots & Obituaries / Jharla Decker
June 24, 2009, 05:28:31 AM
All good things must come to an end, and Jharla has finally met hers. Here are some old screenshots I've been saving, and I'll post some more current ones once I've gotten some sleep.

This character was created on Monday, September 8th at 09:02:56 AM.
Since creation, this character has logged on and off 229 times.
The character has spent 16 days, 10 hours, 10 minutes, and 34 seconds online.

From the very beginning, I knew that this PC was way too hot for her own good.

Jharla's first foray into what, at the time, was a mysterious and strange place... the Temple District.

One of the first feeble attempts at government.

A private conference with the Amaunatori.

The Amaunatori in exile.

The Ithicuea Ithilcuea.

A team assembles for a daring rescue from the depths of Sanctuary.

And off we go!

Strolling down Bresley's Way.

At last, we enter the Underdark proper.

We actually lived through this part, believe it or not.

Not as many lived through this part, though.

And unfortunately, this guy didn't make it on the way back.

But we did finally make it back to the ziggurat without him.

TO BE CONTINUED...

Bug Reports / Stuck in the door
March 18, 2009, 12:51:48 PM
This is kind of funny.

As you can see, I'm between the doors. When you get stuck behind the door, you can swivel the camera around to make the door clickable. From this spot, there's nothing I can do but wait for someone to show up with a key.

This happens a lot with this door. If a waypoint could be put in the hallway it would be appreciated.

EDIT: This is the guildhouse near the Dreamers' Chapterhouse.

Bug Reports / Can't poison drinks
March 17, 2009, 02:25:54 PM
When I tried to put some nasty in a bottle, I got this message:

Quote[Poison] ISSUE: Using poison items to poison things in your inventory doesn't properly work yet.

This happened with both Deathblade and Nitharit, I haven't tried anything else.

Bug Reports / Crystal Mines Quest
March 15, 2009, 03:00:50 PM
This is a pretty cool quest, but there are a few odd bugs.

1. The skeletons are susceptible to critical hits and sneak attacks. They register as "undead" with the ranger tracking tool, so somehow their immunities are not being applied.

2. Something else I can't remember but will post here when it comes to me.

Suggestions / Weather status message
March 05, 2009, 01:54:42 PM
This might be easy, or it might be too much of a pain in teh butt to be worth it, I have no idea. However, I do think it would add significantly to the experience.

Since we now have a real actual weather system, how much trouble would it be to get a little blurb in the combat log that tells us the approximate temperature when we enter an area? Perhaps even something as simple as "It is warm and humid," or "There is a slight breeze."

Playing Jharla, I got really tired of people saying things like, "Damn, aren't you cold, woman?" when it's high noon on a tropical island that is situated between a desert and a jungle. If anything, people should be sweating their faces off in their heavy armor.

We should all be on the same page when it comes to the weather.

Off-topic Discussion / Nephriti Amonhotep's portrait
February 19, 2009, 01:38:57 AM

I started this character on a whim, and I am having way too much fun to quit. I have not retired my other PCs, but it looks like I might be playing this one a while.

Here is where you can download the portrait for the character.

Off-topic Discussion / Speed up Firefox
February 16, 2009, 02:03:22 PM
I've had some strange stutters and slowdowns with the latest versions of Firefox, and additionally YouTube would act screwy for no apparent reason from time to time.

This tutorial takes about ten minutes to get through, and it has made a huge difference in the way FireFox acts for me.

Bug Reports / Large Green Jelly
February 13, 2009, 05:23:01 AM
This monster (gelatinous cube appearance type) perceives invisible characters no matter where they are or how far away they are. They will instantly track you and follow you wherever you go. Sometimes you do not always know that this is the case.

The end result is that a player cannot pass through its territory invisibly without leaving a really nasty surprise for other players at the transition. The area where it is found is so jam-packed with other baddies that any PC that needs to resort to invisibility in the first place has little chance of being able to kill the thing without committing suicide.

Can a trigger be placed at the transitions to walk them back to their spawn points?

Now, it is entirely possible that this is the way the game is supposed to work, but I'll put it here anyway.

I've got this nice bit of loot with Spell Immunity: Web on it. I just fought a bunch of Hunting Spiders, and it grants no immunity whatsoever to their web bolt attack.

This may be a case similar to petrification gaze and drown, but I just thought I'd list it.

Bug Reports / Hold person failed with cleric
February 11, 2009, 04:49:46 AM
My cleric of Talona used a hold person spell on another PC, they failed their save, but the spell did nothing. The spell is not a domain spell.

I am unsure of whether or not this is related to the cleric bugs but I can provide more details if needed.

Bug Reports / Clerk Janette is always watching you
January 31, 2009, 05:57:02 PM
After I registered, Clerk Janette swiveled in her chair to face me the entire time I was in the front office.

If this is a bug, DON'T FIX IT! Aside from clipping against the back of her chair, it felt exactly like being in the secretary's office of a big executive.

QuoteLeming stood up to walk down to his father when again he heard a sound behind him. Turning, he found himself 15 feet away from a full-grown, 11-year-old male grizzly. The Lemings often encounter bears in the backcountry. It's a huge area that ties into Yellowstone and Teton national parks and the Washakie Wilderness. Last year, a six-point bull elk that Leming shot had been partially consumed by a bear when he returned to pack it out.

"I hollered at him," Leming said. "I said, 'Get out of here.' He waited about a half-second, laid his ears back and came at me full speed."

Initially, Leming thought about hooking his bow release, a triggerlike device, onto his bowstring and taking a shot. But as he fumbled to hook the release, he quickly discarded that idea. He ran around a tree and sprinted downhill, the big bear hot on his tail.

"I couldn't believe it," Leming recalled. "We always talk about what we would do if we ran into a bear. But you never think it's going to happen to you."

Leming said he considered standing his ground, but there was no way he was going to drop and play dead. If he dropped, he said, he wasn't sure if the bear would maul him or just start eating him.

"I'm not going to lay there and let something eat on me," he said.

Leming, a fence builder, is no small fellow. At 37, he stands 6 feet tall and weighs 230 pounds.

As he blazed past his father, he saw an arrow fly within a foot of his leg.

"The bear was two feet behind me at that point," Leming said. "I just kept running. I made it three more steps and the bear knocked me down."

As he was falling, Leming pivoted onto his back. As the bear bore down on him, he fought back, throwing punches and kicking to keep the bear away from his head.

"I wouldn't have wanted to be on the other end of those," his father said. "He definitely fought for all he was worth. That kid's Ford tough."

But the bear seemed undeterred. Chomping down, the bear bit into Leming's right arm, just below the elbow.

"I couldn't believe the force," he said.

Somehow, Leming managed to get back up and tried to escape again, this time getting tangled in the branches between two trees as he ran. The bear attacked from behind, biting into his shoulder and then pulling him down. This time, the bear bit through his gloved left hand. At the same time, his father was beating the bear on the back with his bow.

"The bear took a couple of steps toward my dad, then he just slowly turned and walked away from us," Leming said. "Dad put another arrow in his bow, but he didn't want to shoot."

The grizzly staggered down the hill about 80 yards and fell over dead. With his first shot at the running bear, the elder Leming had likely nicked the bear's aorta, causing it to quickly bleed out.

Suggestions / Goblin assassin (possible spoiler)
October 09, 2008, 04:58:32 AM
Perhaps not so much a suggestion as an opinion.

I ran into a goblin assassin on the road to the Webbed Wood. I neither heard him with the max listen for my level nor had a better than twenty percent hope of making my saving throw, and only then if I had been buffed. I was pretty much doomed the moment I spawned that NPC.

Being ninja-killed while strolling through the usually safe areas of the road is neither challenging nor fun. NPCs who can and do deal out instant death with no real hope of response or escape for relatively high-level PCs should not be wandering around areas where low-level PCs are likely to travel or congregate. It feels like the equivalent of encountering a hostile medusa in the Gobsquat.

I like the goblin assassin spawn. I want to see more spawns like this. I just don't ever want to see them within three area transitions of the ziggurat unless they are being controlled by a DM. That particular encounter left something to be desired.

Suggestions / Fog color at night
September 24, 2008, 02:37:23 PM
I love the fog, but there is one problem with it. Fairly minor, but hopefully easy to fix.

At night, the fog color is white. This makes night look like day. The shadows are all wrong, and I literally have more light coming off my LCD than during the day.

Is there any chance we could get the night time fog color changed to a dark gray?

Suggestions / Grappling hooks
September 23, 2008, 04:49:33 PM
This isn't an item as much as a system, but before you say nay, hear me out. This requires absolutley no scripting, unless someone just wants to add some flavor. The idea here is to provide PCs with other ways to get around the island, making some areas inaccessible to all but certain classes, or whatever the DMs want to do with it.

Create a set of crossbow bolts / arrows / darts that are only useable by rangers, rogues, and bards with the property "On Hit: Teleport Item Projectile Properties." For those who have never seen it, this item property teleports the thrower to whatever item they hit with the thrown object. These missiles should be fairly expensive (at least 20 gold each).

Then, for every area you want PCs to access with this, put a couple of destructible placeables nearby with the maximum number of hit points. I believe normal EfU:A placeables are indestructible, and without the ability to do damage, the teleport property has no effect. This prevents PCs from using the item to get places where they shouldn't be. If some enterprising scripter wanted to make it more realistic, they could put some code in to make the projectiles unequippable unless the user has rope in their inventory. Otherwise you could simply call them magical grappling hooks.

When the whole thing is in place, classes who can use the grappling hooks can climb up (or across) to otherwise inaccessible areas of the island. It would make for more variety in the areas, make certain underused classes a bit more interesting to play, and add some more flavor to the setting.

There is a bit of potential for abuse, but since it involves using the items on other PCs, and a DM is required for PvP, a rule against using them against PCs for any reason out to be enough to prevent it.
