Old man checking in. EFU has always had a warm spot in my heart, and I've been feeling pretty nostalgic. Thought I'd come back and check things out.

From what I've seen and chatted to others about, NWN has no cache system for loading models or placeables. So everytime they come into your visual range you have to load them. The more placeables/creatures in the area, the bigger the sudden spurt of downloading will be.

Certain scripts can cause lag spikes as well. For example, if you are in a big battle and someone dies. The death corpse/bag/loot script can cause a brief 'pause' in combat, and sadly enough, it can give you false hope that you got off some healing in time or ran away fast enough.

Since NWN doesn't handle multi-core processors really, you don't even get to use that extra power under the hood that your PC has to overcome these hurdles.

So sadly, you either have really bland/empty areas that load/run relatively smoothly...or amazing really well detailed areas that generally cause your PC to sputter the every time you enter an area.

I remember the sloped road used to be notorious for this, just because of tree placeables. :(

A couple of shots from the Looking Glass event last night. Sadly the area for the latter part of the event wasn't really ideal for screenshots, so I don't like the ones I took there. >_>

There's this override that tweaked their bodies some. Not sure if that's what you meant.

My Introduction to EFU:M and all of its many possibilities...

Followed quite quickly by the realization that possibilities within EFU are most assuredly not certainties...

Long throughout EFU in its various incarnations I have been content to observe and really watch other's stories unfold. There was a moment in Kingman's Inn during EFU:A that has stood out to me above most others.

I was playing Martyn Greywood, and the members of House Greywood had assembled during some event. Just seeing our group together working towards a common goal gave me a feeling that we were helping to shape events within the server, however small they might be. I've only been part of three DM factions (that I can recall) and perhaps a handful of Player factions, so the feeling of belonging to something larger wasn't a feeling I was really accustomed to.

It was that moment that I really got to experience the group narrative, and come to a better understanding of the possibilities that EFU has to offer.

The last successful EFUA screenshot I took was on November 7th. So sometime between then and today a change may have occurred that is causing this problem.

Windowed mode does not affect my screenshots. I have taken a silly amount of EFU screenshots over the years and play exclusively in windowed mode.

The peculiar thing I notice is the creation of this 'blank' file. Because it has no file type. After I delete it and try to take another screenshot, it gets created again.

DC, what do you feel is the primary cause of lag that is experienced? It was my understanding that a large (or huge) module size created problems of its own.

That is the reason for asking in the thread if it is feasible. In my experience with some rented servers and gaming in the past, often server companies will have a number of things running on a single server.

Like way back in the day we had a BF2 and a Quake Wars server on the same box. Then we found out that some other customer also had some server running off that box as well. We discussed lag issues with them, and they just moved us to another tower or whatever.

I do not know the specs of the server we are currently using or the details of what else, if anything, is also being run on the server. But again, this is why the core questions were highlighted about the feasibility and potential benefit of this.

Paha, that is why I suggested it be run on the same machine/computer and not a separate server. That way there would be no additional cost incurred, if possible.

There could be an Underdark series, and an Archipelago series. I have tons of screenshots from the UD still, so I'll list some names of prominent folk after I dig through a bit.

Matterheim, I think his name was, stands out in my mind!

And of course Mr. Sveit.

Bocho, Grulpo, Ebeneezra, Nurtle, Victoria Colivin, Gregor Tobeorski...
