General Discussion / 'Fallen' Paladin & Cleric query
December 13, 2018, 09:09:19 PM
If your paladin character becomes fallen, and loses all his divine abilities, is he able to start progressing as a cleric and use the cleric spellbook & divine might/shield/turning abilities fine or does fallen paladin status deny all divine features & prevent that?

For those odd cases where a paladin makes a minor infraction against his oath, can't have it absolved due to location / lack of priests, but it hasn't significantly violated the tenets or beliefs of the deity they follow to be disowned by their deity.

General Discussion / Alchemy & Herbalism Enquiry
October 30, 2018, 09:18:42 PM
Hi there, maybe this is already back and I don't know it because I've been elsewhere.

How is the progress on revamping / rebalancing Alchemy & Herbalism coming along? Is there an ETA on when it will be finished, have these been scrapped entirely or is the crafting framework & items to be retained / introduced & all the complicated scripting that would go behind it all still yet to be decided?

Thanks for your time.

Yet another character that dies in the void between worlds... I don't want to make a trend of this!

Had fun playing with you guys,  but it seems through all our near-death experiences and adventures that Balkyr ended up fighting a foe that was impossible to survive once it got into close range... maybe there was a portal somewhere to escape in a corner but I with my 10 wis thought that if I ventured too far away from the group it'd be a perma too. Haha.. Ah. Chasing the void is a great way to lose oneself.

And a bunch of screenshots because I like taking pictures of scenery.

A distant shore.

Cleaning up someone elses explorable mess and taking the six-hundred or so gold for myself...

If you want to know who was responsible for this, here's a hint. We'd been SLAYING his KIN.

Fun to do this quest for the first time...

Picking over Agent Chambers' leftovers. Psst, you missed two digsites  :P That was really funny seeing you here.

When you arrive a bit too late...

Facing off against the first 'real' beholder I'd kill.

... and that's that. See you around on the next, or maybe you won't... but I'll do my best to make my presence felt even though I'll shy away more from the factions this time around.

Bug Reports / QA - A Puzzle of Memory
May 05, 2018, 08:38:22 PM
Character:  Balkyr Fjordson

After completing the first sequence Y RR BB, I waited for the second set of lights to appear. Nothing seemed to be appearing, used the laugh voice chat command to make sure I wasn't lagging or anything.

Clicked one of the pillars after waiting about 25 seconds and it told me it was shutting down, so quest ended abruptly. It seemed to be working fine other resets so maybe just some weird bug cropped up from the person prior who hadn't closed this quest for a long time, or just because the server has been running for too long.

Maybe a server reset will fix? [Shrugs]

Hi,

Trying to help my sister with getting to play EFU but we've run into a queer issue. On her computer, whenever she tries to create a character, and gets to the end to click to play, it sends her back to the character selection screen instead with no characters visible in the character list to choose from.

Anyone experienced this issue? Couldn't even google what was happening.

Bug Reports / Sanctuary Fitted Armour Bug
April 20, 2018, 09:31:20 AM
BDID: Limit Break
Character: Leo Gallias

Hey,

A few days ago I tried to enhance my Sanctuary Fitted Armor with +2 perform for 400 gold, however in my rush to pick up the suit and head out to a venture I hadn't noticed the skill hadn't been applied to my armour while it was sitting in the Engraving Anvil.

I've come back today to try pay for another skill, but now the skill purchase option won't show up at all. Sitting with a no-skill-property suit of Armor that I can't apply a skill to.

Rules: List in descending order the top 5 classes you like to (or would like to) team up with for any given venture.

These are my picks, curious what others would pick.

1: Rogue | Commander | Treasure Hunter
2: Sorcerer | Positivist (with summons)
3: Bard | Cantor
4: Barbarian | War Champion
5: Fighter | Drill Sergeant

General Discussion / Tutorial: Resource Management
March 25, 2018, 10:37:50 AM
Foreword: These are just the ideas and ramblings of my own* they aren't complaints or orders or improvement suggestions. Learn from it what you will.

So in EFU we've got all different kinds of resources available, but what do you do when those resources all dry up? Perhaps those quests didn't quite pay off as much as you would like, or that event used up every little potion and gold you had, leaving you penniless and powerless, left on the wayside of the streets of Sanctuary next to the nearest tentdweller...

... Well, do not give up hope. There are still plenty of ways to do medium to high-end content without emptying your buckets of resources.

Option 1: Hire (or play) someone that can heal.

I don't mean someone that happens to have buckets of crystals in reserve, or a cleric who has to sacrifice all his currently memorised spells for healing ones. I mean playing a proper 'Healer' roled character who specialises at doing exactly what they are meant to do without using up resources. Off-hand, I can think of three classes/perk combinations.

Fighter (RSD)
Sorcerer (Positivist)
Bard (Healing Song)

First off is the fighter RSD. He's constantly generating medicines at (almost no cost) through resting, and depending on how well he's doing, he may have Skill Focus: Heal and a slot for a healing brew to spare. Throw him all the medicines you find off corpses if he's struggling with his own resource management, and let him heal you in-between encounters instead of the party chugging away 3-4 light/moderate healing potions. He will get you all back up and running in tip-top condition within a few rounds, and if he over-healed on the roll, even provide you with a bit of a healing buffer should you be damaged before you reach back to full health again.

Sorcerer (Positivist) will have an inclination to collect every conceivable item that provides a bonus spellslot to his magics, because for every spellslot he has, that's another burst of healing the party as a whole will be able to enjoy. They can throw down celestial themed summonings if they don't need to heal, heft a crossbow and keep dealing his own damage from the backrow or be a spellsword-type so there's ways he can contribute in the fight, but generally in a pinch that combat-casted burst healing, regen ticks or clever Wall of Fire/Elemental Shield positioning will have everyone consistently fighting in top condition without heavy potion expenditure.

Bard (Healing Song) Bards can fill various roles, being a jack (or jill) of all trades. With their healing song and a good perform skill they can provide long-range healing and even regen around themselves, to everyone, on top of empowering your attacks and saving throws. More perform skill means a longer duration, alongside clever feat selections to increase duration and the number of times they can sing only serves to amplify their healing potential considerably. Bonus points if they're a cute scottish-accented red-head with high charisma, minus if they actually carry bagpipes with them and wear a kilt.

Option 2: Hire Casters over Potions.

It's nice to have that little priest in a bottle, but how about having that priest or wizard along for the ride instead? Druids, Clerics and Wizards have a very large repertoire of spells (if they aren't barred from transmutation) that can assist the group, enhancing your groups combat potential greatly without the need for you to bloat yourself on magical fizzy drinks. Bards and Sorcerers may also be packing away spells they use to empower themselves, if you can convince them to share the love your way in your ventures, all the better.

Option 3: Play Smarter

Sit down and talk with your group if you're all having a rough time. If you're a proper adventuring crew, take a look over your resources, share what you need to with each other. Perhaps some people are lower level than others? They may be able to acquire some resources for your ventures from another quest. Perhaps a quest has a lot of temporary supplies that you can use? It may be that you do some precursor quests for supplies you won't be keeping over a reset. About to need blurring potions? Maybe someone has ten of them stacked away you can trade for. It would also help to talk with NPCs that can cast spells, cheaper than purchasing the potion, before you head out. A bit more walking and time involved between excursions but overall more economic.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Hordes of Magic

I'll just like to say thankyou to theplayers I was with for getting me out in the end, you didn't have to risk yourself, and I know you meant well when you came back in the second time to look for me, even if you doubled the amount of mage eaters to contend with... Hahaha... Thanks for putting up with some of my possibly less than noble tells immediately after that happened.

Maybe I should've pm'd you while I was fighting the initial 7/8 magic eaters after you guys got out to tell you guys not to come back in but I hesitated to do that because... gotta keep the situation IC right? I know you guys wouldn't have known that I was slowly, somehow, turning things around in there to try and save the explorable from being impossible.

I mean, it was a stupidly ridiculous feat to be even try to do at the time and I have no idea how I was managing it before they started multiplying again.

Anyways, here's the screenshots of the combat logs since I didn't get a picture of the magic eaters themselves. It's fun to be RSD sometimes... right? Sometimes you can pull off ridiculous feats of strength and defiance of fate, sometimes you get crushed completely, sometimes you do both. This is both, I feel.

Hey, my character bought this tower shield from a dwarf recently that used to belong to one of my previous characters a fair while ago, I honestly never expected to see this shield again! Or it's something that was generated with the exact same properties and appearance... somehow.

Anyways, it seems to have a [custom item property applied] message on it when I equip it, which I don't remember it having, and my movement speed is reduced (though it's barely noticeable).

Is this normal, or is it because I'm attempting to use an item that one of my previous characters used to own? I don't want to have my character invalidated from some anti-tweaking script if its part of that.

Or it could be cursed?

So, yeah had a blast. This was a difficult character to play and put my immortal soul at risk since I wasn't paying careful attention to his deeds when I should have been.

The redundant backstory of Calin Kross was a little 'out there' so I'll keep it brief what was floating around in my head as I never wrote it down.

Calin Kross was an ex-paladin of Bahamut raised in Suzail, Comyr. There was a remote ruin not too far which harboured the Cult of the Dragon and they were messing with a creature called a balhiir, essentially like a magic eater but it takes on an intangible misty form and it eats the magic out of items of anything it touches as well.

His church and such went to go fight it and in order to defeat it someone had to take on a part of its essence through a High Elven ritual so it could be made corporeal and slain, and thus Calin Kross was sundered from the weave, the healing magics people tried to apply to him was the fragment of the balhiir (which can ride people) consuming everything beneficial. That was my elaborate take on his RSD weave nullification at any rate. Again, Spellfire was my source of inspiration.

I wasn't hiding this really, but no one really asked deep enough, a few tidbits were freely given when it was queried. In the past and nothing relevant to the present so it doesn't really matter what story I had come up with does it? I don't think it was making an OP background or anything, just something flavourful that explained him starting over from scratch as a fighter with no access to the weave if anyone wanted to ask.

It was fun making friends, and then watching them die, and making more, and having them disappear and die again. Heart-rending (for Calin). He enjoyed honest work like mining, allowed some concessions he wasn't proud of, did plenty of things I was very proud of. Hopefully fighting and slayinga massive devil that had crossed into this plane of existence alongside Kaim, and then helping stop a seemingly unending horde of enthralled critters put him back into the good books. Hopefully.

I can only say thanks to everyone giving him a 'full' death even if I would have preferred a full life. I shouldn't have stopped moving after I put that in the barrel! It's fine, no hard feelings here.

The only hard feelings I have... is toward my screenshots folder! ARGH! Had some good screenies and no one will see them. Like when I was taking 13-17 attacks per flurry/2 seconds from multiple 15 AB dire mace barbarian gladiators so the slaves could get past and escape. Seriously, Improved Expertise and 1min cooldown heals works, fighting that devil with Kaim and all sorts of other shenanigans. Well, no spoilers here at least.

First fight when I realised my RSD had a very particular set of skills. Skills that made him a nightmare for creatures without healing potions. Heavily encumbered here.

Scrapping with Friends

Fighting OP champions with the particular set of skills.

Got to do this quest finally instead of hiding in a corner!

Putting the dead to rest.

And that OOC meta info if anyone was interested in making something similar in future and needed some tips/ideas to take away.

Bug Reports / Circle of Death
January 09, 2018, 07:10:25 PM
During a DM event yesterday, my character Calin Kross, and Jack Bundy as well, were hit by what appeared to be a Circle of Death spell from an Ogre High Mage.

I don't know what level Jack was but Calin Kross was level 9, and the Circle of Death spell is not supposed to affect creatures of 9HD or higher, but the DC 23 fortitude save vs death still rolled against me in the combat logs.

Sorry, no screenies on this one until I can find a new viewer to open my .tga files.

Blake Colton was my wizard engineer that I wanted to make weapons and stuff but never got around to it (DM Q&A thread was never replied to on the old forums so assumed they weren't interested at the time, there were a lot of plots going on around then so understandable!)

Blake Colton was a person who became a battle-mage of Cormyr a lot later in life than most people do, so he had some skills he'd acquired doing odd jobs like blacksmithing, tinkering etc etc instead of being just pure wizard. Came to Sanctuary, joined up with the W&W as an Engineer, duelled an ebil druid for Zurello and ended up getting him his first Ring of the Ark so his meta plot could advance.

For the most part, Blake Colton actually won a surprising amount of duels, but perhaps brawls or spontaneous pvp's would be more apt, despite not actually being 'built' for dueling or spell battles, or even drinking absurd amounts of potions or acquiring legendary DM lootz.

He was using his spells under the idea that whoever hits hardest first wins, based on the concept in the forgotten realms book I read "Spellfire" a long time ago, and this lead to PhK hitting druids, clerics, lycanthropes pre-emptively, and actually succeeding! despite them all having saving throws to resist fort and will. In the spell duels in the Stadium, since people weren't allowed to prebuff, his pre-emptive binding and harming tactics of just 'spamming evards' and then magicking his weapon to hit over Vincent for the finisher didn't do much to put on a show, but it was damned efficient and that was still keeping in line with his ideas of what a spell duel is really about.

He. Still. Won.

Played the Great Game and cast invisibility on the ball, so the wins could be secured easily, thanks to Engineer Carl on setting up the event for that one. Had fun hunting a kobold in the moldmire, think I almost got it with Evards' but I was in an awkward position so couldn't follow up! Went venturing through the Machine with a cute wererat and her little companions, got out of multiple tight spots with some absurd monster placements and spawns, talked with a werewolf, then got mauled by the werewolf, and then talked some more with the same werewolf. Found some hidden digsites that had level 1-3 spell scrolls, up to (at least) 381 gold drops, baublium, corpses and random gems aplenty... and a lot of dolls. Broke through doors in the Machine I hadn't explored before, found some really.. weird things, but still feel like I'm missing stuff.

In the end, though, he died when he rushed over to help a newbie to get away from some mage eaters. I'd seen the summoning blast and went and clicked the rope instinctively, and hadn't realised it wasn't just one or two mage eaters but a ridiculous number, 3x lesser and 1 medium. Considering the other two players there couldn't do anything to kill them, and mage eaters teleport.. and the two players I was with were on the other side of a rope that one of them had difficulty climbing over..... I just.. ran to lure them away.. and got run down brutally, getting them far enough away so that those peops would've hopefully lived considering their dead-end position. I wasn't thinking about 'who could afford to die' at the time, and I'm glad I wasn't thinking that way anyway.

Taking the full death on that end after doing all the above ventures, 12k+ XP loss would be losing effectively ALL the skills he'd learned and used during his more notorious travels, I know I'd be playing bitterly for too long, trying to recover, and that's not fun for anyone so I'm just going to accept the death as it happened. I did a lot of PvP, on a character I hadn't expected to be doing ANY PvP with, did awesomely at it, even if most of it was luck, and ended up finding and experiencing some great stories as a result so I can be satisfied with his accomplishments.

Writing up an IG journal via real life was fun too. Some of the pictures were awful but others I surprised myself how good they turned out. (In my opinion) Link is here if you haven't seen it yet. http://www.efupw.com/forums/index.php?topic=684773.0

Remember folks.. eat your nightshade! Harsh lessons that all need to learn. Or just remove magic eaters. Or scale them to level. ...That was an absurd amount to have dumped on a new player for one spell casting...

Suggestions / Thomas's Inn
December 09, 2017, 09:00:55 PM
I know it's been closed permanently, but could it perhaps be reopened and left empty so people can use it as a meeting place for their nefarious misdeeds? Perhaps put some random bandit spawns appearing as a small chance inside it as by now those roaming bandits would be using the empty building.

Failing that, is it okay if people place their lair directly outside it so as to appear as if they're 'repurposing the building' for their own use?

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Taros Krossor
November 12, 2017, 02:20:03 AM
So Taros Krossor was a pirate out of Luskan not that anyone asked :P Cursed by an old lich hoard. Died trying to raid a dragon's hoard. First character that I've had to explore the Dark Lake and he found some neat stuff out there so I'm happy about that I guess. Didn't expect to be online for the red dragon thing and hadn't planned on dying, drank everything! Haha.

Thanks for everyone who helped him along his way in descending order of significance. Carl > Ozkar > Arthur > Kirk > everyone else who beat him up and tolerated him.

Now for the screenshots of which there were few because he didn't quite make it to four weeks alive down in Sanctuary. BRUTAL PLACE. 1 Star Review.

Some awesome and hidden place in the server. Thanks Ozkar and Carl, another new place under my belt.

Super Mega Summoning Ritual... which failed because she was apparently too low a level to use the scroll?

Whatever this place was, was just... brutal as hell. Sorry Timur. Put up a sign and hope it saves someone else being decimated methodically.

Encountered a lot of champions but didn't take screenshots of them all. Still, there are some interesting names.

Sometimes you just get caught up in a six-way battle from the most unusual of circumstances.

Quick-thinking from Kirk here turned this REALLY unfortunate situation into something else entirely.

Someone clearly does not like Cave Bears... no idea who managed this but I applaud it.

The completion of the Darksteel Set, thanks to Kirk, again.

After fixing my haks I was finally able to explore somewhere I'd never been able to before and... found this place. This is where I was expecting to die, not to the red dragon 12 hours later XD

... and that's that EFU. Thanks for another epic (yet brief) adventure.

Suggestions / Darksteel Sword & Gauntlet Set Suggestion
November 08, 2017, 08:41:43 AM
Okay so this is a really, really small thing but I was wondering if this set could be changed slightly since switching weapons during combat causes an action-cancel when the gloves are unequipped automatically as well. It's probably too much effort to do for one person but the ability to switch weapons from a greatsword to a one-handed weapon and shield is a necessity sometimes.

I was wondering if the set could work like this:

If sword is equipped before the gauntlets are equipped, unequip the sword and state the gauntlets must be equipped first as a combat log message.

When the gauntlets are equipped first, by themselves, a script fires to remove any existing item properties since they should have no item properties or 'no effect' without the sword.

#include "x2_inc_itemprop"

object oItem = GetItemInSlot(INVENTORY_SLOT_ARMS, //InsertWhateverGetPCScriptIsUsed//);
void main()
{
IPRemoveMatchingItemProperties(oItem, ITEM_PROPERTY_AC_BONUS, DURATION_TYPE_PERMANENT);
IPRemoveMatchingItemProperties(oItem, ITEM_PROPERTY_SKILL_BONUS, DURATION_TYPE_PERMANENT, SKILL_DISCIPLINE);
}

When the sword is equipped while the gauntlets are equipped as an IF condition, do something like

#include "x2_inc_itemprop"

object oItem = GetItemInSlot(INVENTORY_SLOT_ARMS, //InsertWhateverGetPCScriptIsUsed//);
void main()
{
IPSafeAddItemProperty(oItem, ItemPropertyACBonus(1),0.0);
IPSafeAddItemProperty(oItem, ItemPropertySkillBonus(SKILL_DISCIPLINE,3),0.0);
}

To apply the item properties to the gauntlets.

When the sword is unequipped while gauntlets are equipped, fire the item property removal script.

If gauntlets are unequipped while the sword is equipped, just unequip the sword with it per normal since the item property removal script for when the gauntlets are equipped by themselves will be in place.

Or I can just find someone else to buy the set later when I've had my fun with it I guess if they don't mind :)

General Discussion / Assembling POJAS
November 04, 2017, 11:49:28 PM
[Posted on some old wall in the Grotto arena room]

It's tough to organise folks to do things :P and it's bad to assume the DMs will do this for us so just throwing this out there to try and get people organised toward fighting this beast of a beast.

Do we just make up our own # chat channel in IRC that no other people under DarkMyst are using? I guess we'll use #pojas for any group or IC discussions since not everyone can get online at the same time.

Weekend battle over this thing is probably going to be our best bet to account for different time-zones, the unfortunate thing is only a limited number of people can actually harm the creature so we'll need to get everyone who *can* do it, to do the majority of the work.

So if anyone is interested for the motley crew post your username and character name here - and importantly playing time range! If you intend to just go after it with your faction crew instead and take the glory for yourself that's fine, don't put your name down.

This alright to organise like this?

Once a time can be determined that fits into most peoples schedules we'll work out some count-down timer thing for the event. Oh right, and DMs that want to control the Pride of Jultar better put down their available times as well XD.

Now that Taros has actually fought the thing and consulted with a few people he's aware of a few weak-points to attempt to exploit, though his ass got handed to him and lost two levels by that dumb laughing gas someone threw at the cultist (but he survived blows from the Pride of Jultar well enough at level 6) so hope you guys will be fine just having this meat bag Taros along.

IG Username: Limit Break
Character Name: Taros Krossor
Playing Times (in GMT): 5-11pm GMT+13 (Observing Daylight Savings) on weekdays, whenever on weekends GMT+13.
Preferred time: Weekend, I'll be available for consulting IG on currently discovered weaknesses of the Pride of Jultar and find a role for you to fit into.

------

[This section to be amended with current group members that've asked to join Taros IG on this, he won't be too picky]
Taros Krossor

-----

Possible Preliminary Events that DMs may want to help us out with?

Consulting that behemoth spider huntmaster regarding a place to trap the thing.

Acid resistant spear (of any randomly generated kind) to attach the claw in the Grotto to the point to have a fifth? weapon that can harm the beast (May need an equivalent trophy from some PC/NPC kill for him to hold as collateral, and the spear to be returned perhaps as the Jultar-Slaying trophy weapon if we somehow succeed?

This is a general discussion thread anyway so everyone feel free to post ideas for events revolving around this thing that a few members can possibly participate in with DMs (since not everyone NEEDs to be present for EVERYTHING) before everyone groups up for the final strike.

I always wanted to try playing a druid but it looks like I couldn't really hold out for two weeks sorry. The recent NPC death stung a bit ;/ piss-poor excuse but it did..

Thanks to the people I was able to interact with, I hope I portrayed an elusive yet active druid that people had fun being stalked by passive-aggressively, and randomly turning up to save people nearly dying to various forms of wildlife out of nowhere. (I'd probably been stalking you for a good twenty minutes or two minutes :P you'll never know.)

The struggle of trying to find interaction in the wilds despite running essentially everywhere that's normally well-travelled, consistently, didn't quite pay off as much as I would like, and the second death just stung a bit. I guess playing a barbaric wolf girl just wasn't for me after all. Seemed a good idea at the time :)

I'll probably take a step back for a bit from playing EFU as well. Stay alive out there, and watch out for those champion NPCs, they can actually use the loot they would drop to devastating and depressingly great effect...

Upon logging into the game, the server was 'paused'. After a while of waiting, it was eventually unpaused and the system scripts left to resume. Immediately after unpausing, one Sparkling Crystal Fragments item (of which I was holding three at the time) was removed from my inventory. I had them lined up left to right but the one in the middle was the one that was removed.. really weird.

Bug Reports / Prone bug with shifting while on low HP
October 18, 2017, 07:05:19 AM
Account: Limit Break
Name: Kara Wolfspaw
Base Con Score:13 (Relevant perhaps as my con buff would've disappeared as I unshifted)

While escaping from a hero orog, I climbed down a cliff and was on (extremely low) HP. I unshifted out of wolf form so I could heal myself with spells but then was met with a statement saying I'd successfully recovered from unconsciousness, and my character was unable to move / drink potions etc while sitting on 1 HP, prone.

This awkwardly let the hero orog have plenty of time to run around and finish the job.
