Never willing to leave a man behind to be enthralled, he fought tooth and nail to ensure none under his watch would be left to the tendrils of the great foe. This time, alas was to be his last.

As my first EFU character, (Probably should have run a test before I made some decisions), he was actually quite a fun ride. Wasn't really looking to make too many waves as I got a feel for the server, but things ended up being a blast once he found his place a midst the Society.

Big shout outs to all that put up with him! From the temple of Hoar, for trying to work with him on his redemption. To his Society bros who never gave up on the fallen, and maimed Ordinant he was. And of course to the little hins and lordly wayfinders that wandered into him and eagerly joined him to break the quiet of his solo sojourns into the maddening sands of the Lowerdark. :D

Alas, the hard drive with most of my screenshots died a week or two back, so there'll be a bit of a void in this obit. Most of those that survived are a bit too spoilery I'm afraid. ;)

I'll remedy this on my next EFU character, hopefully.

Awesome character who went out true, and true, to his ideals of a Paladin and Ordinant.  Awesome job, man.

All I could find in my collection that wasn't spoilerish or chatlogs. Just one of many patrols in the company of the Brordinant Kalvath.

I'm glad we arrived at around the same time and developed a pretty interesting friendship. It's going to be lonely down in the Lowerdark for awhile :(

Time to scratch another off the list.

I do not have any screenshots of Baelian to add, I am afraid. What I do have are a great deal of memories! Three characters of mine came to know and love Baelian Kalvath. To Llewellyn he was a source of courage. A shining example that men could walk into the darkest parts of the caves and survive. To Kojirak he was a stout brother in combat, somebody who understood loss as he did and had the strength to fight on. The stuff great tales are built on. To Robal he was a trusted asset among the Society, the one Ordinant that could be trusted to be reasonable and competent at all times.

He became something of a fixture in the Lowerdark, a valiant crusader who fought tirelessly against the Dread and all they stood for. The Society of the Ordered Mind, and the server as a whole, are a little worse for losing such a magnificent character.

I really look forward to seeing what you make next!

Baelian Kalvath........

Saved me more times, in more ways than I can count.

My impression of him is: He was a farmer, not very good at tilling fields, but obviously nurtured his wife (Alenia) and child with his attention and care. He lost his family on the Surface, a loss that set the course of his Vengeance against the Dread Empire that took his family and friends from him.

He lost his hand fighting the Cyricists in Lower. It would not surprise me if he confronted them alone, I don't know. He sought ways to regain his hand and his strength - not for himself, but to aim this strength directly against the Dread.

For a human, he was wise and very patient. He demanded justice through the bureaucratic networks of Sanctuary Law when needed, speaking to Directors, and Upper leaders directly. He had a relationship with the people of the Temple of Hoar, that I only glimpsed once while I was seeking solace.

I learned how to negotiate the Sanctuary illusion, through Baelian's example of literally walking outside the illusion; his distaste for politics - his understanding of the need to meet written Law with his own deep sense of Justice.

I asked him if he was a 'Paladin' once. He refused the title saying, "Do not call me that..."

And walking with Baelian in the Lowerdark on several occasions was inspiring. Seeing a human broken in body, but not at all in spirit. A sense of the thousands of souls taken by the Dread that he wanted to exact vengeance for, calling on thunders... We hear these words all the time, spouted by warriors and priests that come to Sanctuary...
Baelian made me believe he was acting alone, subtly embodying more than an ideal, an Ordinant who would go down fighting the dark gods, all the way.

And so he did..........

I am humbled and honoured to have known Baelian. Thankyou for being a wonderful example of the best of humanity in this dark place. Endure, Brother.

Gerhardus's Last solid memory of Baelian will be him staggering down the Slaver's Way stairs of Traensyr, hauling the bodies of what, three? Four of his friends? Just as the Stairs exploded. And him getting back up, and soldiering on.

Hell yeah.
