Bug Reports / Bugged Quest -- "A Missing Soul"
April 20, 2012, 03:08:58 AM
Volkmar is apparently supposed to give you a key to Lewis' home but he never does. Because he sucks. And he's secretly a Conclavist.

While I'm not good at these things and Caerseil's death is clearly not nearly as significant as Castor's, I felt like this was the first character I've ever made that I'd feel comfortable making a screenshot thread for. There's not a lot to show, but I figured I'd share a few things with people who were interested.

There are a lot of PC's and players that I should thank for all the fun I had with Caerseil, most of them included in these screenshots. Thomas is, of course, not among them, because he is a sniveling bastard. Jayde should definitely get a bunch of props because of all the work he goes through to make us treehugger scoundrels feel all warm and fuzzy. I also need to thank the likes of Mira, XCR, Mucka, and AMB, all of which did tons to add to the enjoyment of playing Caerseil and helped me move towards perceivable goals when I was able rather than just sitting on my hands and doing nothing. Magister, of course, must be thanked for the brilliance that was Castor. Aethereal is a boss even if our timezones never meet up. And if I didn't thank Herostrat, I wouldn't be acknowledging a pretty substantial part of the intrigue in Caerseil's character.

A bit of backstory, summarized so that you don't have to trudge through much:

Caerseil was born on a coastal settlement in Sembia to a relatively wealthy merchant family with a father who was prone towards adultery and various other vices. Her family didn't want what they considered to be little but a plagued creature, and so she was cast into the sea -- luckily only to be obtained by a tribe of aquatic elves. It was here that she fostered her curiosities after having felt stifled by being forced into a very sheltered lifestyle, until eventually she was given leave to explore the sea and, with time, the land above it. Mystified and in awe, she became obsessed with exploration -- with the cultures and practices of lands she had never seen before (and jewelry, which unfortunately never came into fruition in EfU because she never found anything shiny). At one point, she deemed it necessary to try to find her family for the sake of misguided closure. She stalked them for months, watching what she found to be her younger brother with decided interest, until eventually she became overly audacious and her secret was found out in an event that culminated in a brawl with her drunk father, a beating, and finally his heavily marred and bloodied corpse.

I wanted to do a lot of things with Caerseil, but I struggled to figure out exactly how to do it. At one point, Caerseil had in her mind to goad and exploit Herostrat into killing Fury and siding with Senacherib. Nonetheless, I enjoyed every step -- from the interactions I had with other characters (despite how aloof she could be), the DM excellence that I had the opportunity to experience, and the altogether adversity in being widely hated for being lovely and blue.

Alright, blah blah, here come the screenshots:

Completely irrelevant to Caerseil, I witnessed this and got a cheap laugh out of it. Thought maybe someone else might.

Again irrelevant, but it goes to show that Mako sharks aren't to be fucked with:

One of a scant handful of conversations with Elendaerion. This was the first. I genuinely wish we could have interacted more, but timezones and Conclavists decided otherwise.

Here are three of the Mistlocke PC's that Caerseil spent time with (Entoni not so much, unfortunately), in which they discuss the laws of Mistlocke and Caerseil's various intentions. This was a frequent tactic of sorts with Caerseil -- she would intend to speak with one person about an important matter, but invite like-minds as witnesses and to help spread the word of her goodness (and sometimes harmlessness).
[hide="Meeting"][/hide]

Kara and Parrot's deaths, which shook Caerseil's foundation and lead her towards the ambition of getting Herostrat killed -- which she eventually had to develop into a way of convincing him to get killed, because he was a pussy and never left town.
[hide="Kara & Parrot"][/hide]

Sarisa, Violet, and Caerseil were a very odd trio based loosely around the love triangle that Violet developed in her obsession with the two of them. Without diving into too many details, both Caerseil and Sarisa weren't entirely interested in bumping carpets and hilarity and tragedy usually ensued. Nobody, of course, was ever given the privilege of finding out what the hell Caerseil's downstairs looked like.

And then lootz. I apologize for not cropping these, but, well, uh... I got lazy.
[hide="Gear"]

And, of course, the very bitter end:

Thank you very much everyone. I wish everyone on team nature the best of luck -- it's trying to say the least -- and look forward to leaping back into the fray whenever I find the inspiration to do such. I missed a lot of good screenshots that I should have taken and some of them are on another computer, but hopefully this all does justice to the memories of other players. I hope you all enjoyed her.

Suggestions / Limit cleric amulets based on level
April 09, 2012, 09:05:04 PM
Bear with me for a second, because this is based more on the idea of the suggestion rather than the mechanical implementation of it. What I'm proposing is that we approach amulets much in the same way we approach perks and somehow limit them based on the amount of cleric levels that are taken to avoid powerbuilds. I'm well aware of the fact that this brings up complications, mostly the idea of "what happens if a level 9 cleric dies" and the possible consequences of that happening. So the first question here, I suppose, should be whether or not this is possible to implement.

I don't know if this sentiment is shared, but I feel as if the amulets are the cleric's version of perks despite the fact that their power is based primarily on how influential a cleric can be. And like perks, it seems odd that a cleric who focuses less on his faith and more on her ability with her weapon by taking fighter levels would have the same opportunity as one who focused fully on the pursuit of their religious duties. Plus, limiting multiclassed clerics also just discourages power builds and the like.

Thoughts?

THE WHEEL OF FATE IS TURNING.

REBEL ONE.

ACTSHUN.

Needless to say, Castor needs to stop breeding with the deer.

I don't seem to be gaining the movespeed and attack bonuses as a druid whenever I enter the Foothills. Is this intentional?

Suggestions / Purchasable hoods?
February 05, 2012, 07:48:20 AM
Made a new character today under the assumption that I could either A) use the togglehood command or B) buy the hood helmet model somewhere, in order to give her a hood to wear. Unfortunately, I didn't quite realize that the togglehood command doesn't work on dwarves and I can't seem to find a shop, whether in the OOC area or actually IC, that sells hoods.

Any chance of adding something to the tailor?

Suggestions / More accurate dyes?
October 09, 2011, 03:33:28 AM
I had the unfortunate displeasure of finding out that "dark blue" was actually "pansy teal" today. Would it be at all possible to maybe rework the dye system in some way to give more accurate results, or better yet, get a chance to see what the dyes actually look like before purchasing them?

I'm probably reaching a bit too far with this one, but I figured I'd throw it out there nonetheless.
