General Discussion / Still awesome!
November 26, 2013, 02:39:55 AM
Recently returning home after nearly two years of working out of town, I was amazed to learn that EFU was again in the Underdark.  While I still don't have time to devote to a full time PC, I rolled up a quick PC just to check things out.  I logged on 3 or 4 times just running errands and such and each time I logged on I found myself engaged in great RP with people who most likely had no clue who I was.
Just wanted to let everyone here know how awesome they are!

Entered the QA and had zero spawns.  Left and reentered and only the cursed marching undead spawned, but nothing else.  Still was able to complete the quest and received end xp.

Server has been rocking lately!  Lots of players on, damn good RP and the DM's have really been mixing it up as well.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Libraries and Tomes of Ymph / Servitude
August 20, 2010, 01:09:20 PM
Chapter 1:  Servitude
What exactly is servitude?  Servitude, simply put, is the act of serving another, or others.  We all serve in some capacity every day of our lives.  Be it a simple slave serving his master, a priest serving his God, or a member of the Militia keeping society safe, thus serving us all.  A man who takes pride in his work and provides for his family is probably the best example of servitude.
A smith, for example, serves us all by providing a service.  Because he takes pride in his work, he offers top notch wares to the community.  His work commands a better price, therefore, a better living for his family, thus serving them better as well.  At the end of a long, hard day of work, he walks home with his head held high, knowing he has done his best.
But what can you do to serve?  You have no job, no income, no means to support your family.  Do you beg on the street, head hung low looking at your toes through your worn out shoes?  Do you look for  opportunities to steal food for your family?  What options do you have?

  Chapter 2:
A starting point

Thankfully, there is a way to rise from being a beggar to becoming a productive citizen.  Servitude.  In order to improve our status in society, we must realize that most of us do not start a the top.  How far we go depends on how well we serve, how hard we work, and how faithful we are.  We must also realize that results cannot be expected overnight.  Our successful smith I spoke of earlier, more than likely worked through a long, hard apprenticeship for little more than room, board, and the training necessary to become successful.  If this same smith was trained while he was a slave, he would have earned the same room, board, and skills.  Though some in society might look down on this practice, the results are undeniably the same.
Sounds good, but how do I begin, you ask?  There are many Patricians in the Dominion, allf whom have the right to own slaves.  You need a place to stay, a meal perhaps?  They have needs as well.  Of course, you can't expect anyone to just walk up to you and offer to take you off the street.  You need to offer yourself.  Show your willingness to work.  Show you have something to offer.  After all, slavery is really no different than an apprenticeship.

Chapter 3:
Rising

So, now that you are a servant, what do you do?  A quite simple answer to this is "Do your best".  Take to any task with zeal, no matter what it might be.  Take pride in your work.  Even a simpleton can see when one man is working much harder than another.  Be that one man working hardest among many and prove your worth.  Soon, you will reap the benefits of labor.  A better room, better clothing, and most important, the self confidence gained from knowing you are earning your keep.  Others will also take note in your now purposeful stride and determination to see a task through.  Having gained all this, don't be surprised if one day you wake to the words,  "You have served well, and in doing so, earned your freedom".  Now, you find yourself with the confidence to look a man in the eyes and tell him you would be the best man for tb, whatever it might be.  You have a sense of pride, and the knowledge that you can succeed in whatever you do.

About the author,
For the record, I served as a slave myself, under the guiding hand of Lord Vrintak, who granted me freedom for worthy service.  While this writing is not an autobiography, it does reflect real life experience.

Introductions and Group Management / Something New
September 06, 2009, 11:58:45 PM
Looking to do something other than the same ole same ole.  Not really interested in an app.  Just a support character to whatever cause needs me.  Probably be about a week before I roll up, so I have time to listen to plenty of ideas.

Bug Reports / Pillars and Discs

Was over half way done with the puzzle when another PC took the quest and it reset for them.  No big deal as the only thing lost was my time, but wanted to let y'all know.

Bug Reports / Crystal mine quest

I think this is bugged.  5 PC's took the quest, only a handful of spawns appeared, no boss, no end xp, and almost no loot.

Suggestions / Serverwide celebration
March 08, 2009, 01:45:48 PM
As it's been six months since the exodus, I was thinking a celebration is in order.  Something to involve basically every PC.  Fighting tournament, archery contest, a fleamarket for the merchants, faction recruiting, royal dragon tournament.... the whole nine yards.
Just wondering what everyone else thought of this and if the DM's would be willing to put some time in on it.

  Also, more suggestions and ideas.

Suggestions / Too many PRC's?
February 22, 2009, 07:48:52 PM
While a lot of the recent PRC suggestions have merit, and some sound pretty cool, if the Dm's keep adding new PRC's, pretty soon, we will have an app only server.  Do we really need a PRC banker, doctor, lawyer.  Next will be PRC flanker who won't fight on the front line but will offer support, or a PRC archer for long range support.
I think maybe we should let the DM's concentrate on other things for awhile.  They are doing an outstanding job as it is.  Maybe instead of hitting them up for more, more, more, we can appreciate what we already have.
  My two cents.

General Discussion / The little things
February 18, 2009, 01:12:08 PM
Just a thanks to Howland for the tree cutting episode last night.  Not even a quest, just a job that took in whoever happened to be around.  One of those that happened to be around was a new player to the server who seemed impressed by the fact that a DM would take the time to do something other than epic questing.  Good timing, and a good example of what EFUA is about.

General Discussion / Old versus the new
December 30, 2008, 12:08:12 PM
After a prolonged absence, I returned to EFUA rather than EFU.  While what I have seen so far of the new server is awesome, I can't help but wonder if it might actually be a bit too difficult.
My reasoning is that if I log on at 9:00pm est, and there are 20+ pc's online, it is a safe bet that it is daytime in the gameworld.  If there are 10 pc's online, it is a safe bet it is dark on Ymph.
There are some truly awesome rp'ers on this server and I would like to think that players are only logging off because they are busy, what with the holidays and all, and not because the nights on Ymph are too dangerous to do anything other than rp.  After all, the rp is what makes the difference between here and a hack and slash server.
Another thing that makes me feel it might be a bit too difficult is the number of pc's with at least 1 level of rogue.  I logged on yesterday and of the 17 pc's on at the time, 9 had at least 1 rogue level.  I have nothing against rogues, mind you, and I know that rogue is perfect for multiclassing, but this seemed a bit extreme to me as well.
Hopefully, this is only a trend and nothing more, but I was wondering if any of you that have been playing since the escape have also noticed this.
