A letter is sent in reply, or what you imagine a letter might be, were it not completely drowned in coffee, dirt, ash and mud. It also looks like it was dropped in the Well a few times over, perhaps set on fire, crumbled up and torn. You make out the words "Yours, Scribe Martin Ashbury" at the bottom, but little else.

--With the breaking of the Walls by the Count's drill, and the scouring of challenges laid before those Ring Runners eager for their wish from the King, the greatest reward, it seems, is such a small, and inconsequential thing. Rumour.--

--The free flowing of information, and knowledge, and rumours from the outer rings, to those Kingswards, and from those Kingwards, outward.--

--Slowly, some may say, by way of ill-omened remarks, rumour spreads throughout the Ring 99. Within the deeper Rings, the great city within the City, Baz'eel has gone to war. The specifics are murky, and no one seems to know anything for certain.--

--Some say an ancestral enemy of the city has reared its head, others speak of a Pretender who is trying to usurp the throne for themselves. Calmer voices speak of a mere local conflict, between the city and an unruly satrap.--

--The war is clearly spreading, however. A number of Ringrunners reporting that a huge battle occured somewhere in the Dunes of the Great Ash Desert. Carrion birds are visible over even the Ringwalls.--

--And slowly but surely, mercenaries are draining from the Ward, heading towards the so-called 'Great Ring' to offer their services to the highest bidder. Though to what master, or to what cause, none can be sure...--
