This is an attempt at creating a player faction that represents a loose political unification of the Elven, Dwarven, Halfling, and Gnome races.

It's envisioned as a voting block, an alliance of convenience and protection for non-humans to co-operate in seeing their interests and rights protected in sanctuary in the face of overwhelming human pressure and racism - similar to how all the non-humans tended to bond together in The Witcher, or how the Scoiatel included dwarves and other races as well as elves.

This idea is still in it's infancy so much is up in the air, but:

Alignment: Any

Class: Any

Race: No Humans, Halforcs, or Monsterous. Elf, Halfling, Dwarf, Gnome preferred. Half-Elves acceptable. Other races accepted on case-by-case basis

I'm ASSUMING this is an error, but Dort Weasenbury only sells Fishing Rod's like you get from Old Man Pocket, rather than Quarterstaff's.

Clarification:

Dort Weasenbury does not sell the item, Weapon: Quarterstaff

He DOES sell the item, 'weapon': Fishing Rod (which has -5 enchant and various other penalties and is only for fishing)

Not really an error that's going to set the server on fire, but I don't think there is any other place in Sanctuary to buy a mundane Quarterstaff.

Suggestions / Charisma Check - Hoage Smeed
February 13, 2014, 06:17:20 AM
The Charisma Check on Hoage Smeed means that characters with sufficiently low Charisma cannot:

1. Perform his quest
2. Purchase inn items such as food
3. Set their spawn point to the Inn

As much as I like these new charisma checks, Smeed is the last hub on a quest chain meant to show new PC's sanctuary and introduce new players to the server. Also, being completely locked out of an NPC convo (especially when it's a service industry employee) is annoying.

I feel like the check on Smeed should be removed or the penalty should be higher prices and a condescending conversation.

Suggestions / Rogue Vs Ranger
February 10, 2014, 08:30:46 PM
Rogues, or rather pure Rogues, by in large tend to be niche. Perks were introduced to ameliorate this and to provide an incentive to play a pure rogue (or pure something else) rather than taking a 3 lvl dip for swag Sneak, skill, and tumble bonuses (to say nothing of Uncanny Dodge).

Next to Rangers however, rogue's still under-perform in one key aspect: Stealth

Rangers are quite simply better at stealth. Not only do they recieve a +4 to all stealth based checks on 80% of the server - and I love trackless step and would never take it from Rangers - they also receive buff spells that when combined let them increase their Hide/MS by +8/+6, not an insignificant amount. This is combined with plentiful ranger/druid/barb loot that increases hide/ms to make Ranger a very viable and fun class. Rangers are great, and should not be nerfed.

Instead I propose that pure Rogues receive access to a special rogue store that lets them purchase camo/OwTL consumables at a relatively cheap rate (that can only be used by rogues), and to sell illegal goods, as well as other knicknacks. Maybe Bilby has been revamped to provide this, I don't know.

Introductions and Group Management / Lower

LOWER
4
LYFE

We've all heard these words before. But what do they mean? What do they represent? How can I, a pasty white nerd from the upper east side embrace the rural urbanity and chaotic lawfulness of Lower? Do I need an adapter? Will it Hurt?

Who is Keyser Soze?

WHAT IS LOWER?

Lower is a settlement of likeminded individuals with completly disparate aims, goals, and value systems drawn together by a singular ethos: "Freedom above all else." The freedom to worship the god of your choice (or no god at all), the freedom to practice any philosophy, speak your mind, walk around naked or juggle knives without a permit.

WHO CAN LIVE IN LOWER?
Anyone and any thing, so long as you don't make trouble. Good? We got that. Neutral? We got that. Evil? We got that. Goblins, Giants, Generals and Grandmas. We have it all and we welcome all. Just don't start fights in the Crone or Bill will slap your shit. Please have all battles in the pre-approved everywhere-else area's.

Bug Reports / Menu Driven Conversations dropping
November 21, 2013, 12:02:23 AM
Attempting to access player tools, or have custom armor/cloths designed at the NPC's, fails. It just auto-drops you out of the conversation when it should launch the secondary convo menu where you can set up PC tools or edit items. Nothings changed on my end and I've never had this bug before today so I don't know if it's me or a recent patch issue.

Edit: Apparently the DM's noticed this too, so this may be handled already

Bug Reports / Vertical Climb Issue
November 20, 2013, 10:32:51 PM
Because the Vertical Climb zone in REDACTED is disconnected from the rest of the map, it is impossible to get back down once you collect the rope.

Well, you can, but it involves using the rope item on the ground, and then you have to leave behind the rope. Grapple Ropes are ~90 gp, an amount which can exceed the reward of the quest. Also abandoning a rope each time seems a bit silly. So maybe the area needs to be redesigned to take into account the "can't shoot grapple gun at ground" fix.

Bug Reports / Clown Quest: Maze
November 09, 2013, 04:29:05 AM
This section of the quest is bugged. Upon beating the maze masters, you cannot unlock the chests in their chambers (they do not open, nor produce a key. Lockpicking requires a specific key)

This makes the quest impossible to complete as you cannot leave without paying  the man-in-the-hats price.

Blowing all your supplies for no rewards and being unable to finish and having to pay a penalty is sad times.

Quote from: TheTurboNerd;353277Name: Ezekial Hark
Age: 25
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Class: Paladin
Alignment: Lawful Good
Diety: Torm (Dead God)

Background: Born the son of a family of Coal Miners in the Dalelands, from a young age Ezekial was plagued by a peculiar psychological affliction - he heard voices. Unlike many though, these voices sang in a beautiful, musical language which he could not speak, but he could understand. They sang him to sleep, they told him when people were bad, they chastised him when he did immoral things. A model young boy, this affliction was none the less a quiet embarrassment for the down to earth family, kept hushed until they chanced to ask a travelling cleric of Selune to examine their son for mental defect.

What this cleric discovered was not that Ezekial was touched, but blessed - the 'singing voices' were speaking to him in what they were able to identify as celestial, and they seemed to be some form of an early manifestation of a Paladins gifts. The Harks were deeply religious - the families early patriarch, Great Grandfather Jedediah Hark had been a soldier long ago, and a devout follower of Torm even before the True Gods surge of popularity post Time of Troubles. The faith had been carried down the families lines, despite their now more mundane and humble nature, and a small shrine to their 'Knight Protector' was kept in the house.

The Hark's reached out to the nearest temple of Torm for help, and a priest was dispatched to speak to Ezekial at the age of 12. After a lengthy and private interview, it was confided to the family that Ezekial was perfectly healthy, though on his sixteenth birthday the priest would return and Ezekial would have to make a choice - one that might separate him from his family for forever.

Four years later, Ezekial left with the Cleric of Torm to begin his training to become a Paladin. He would see his family once more in person on his 20th birthday when he visited to celebrate his officiation as an Errant. He has not seen them since, and assumes they have all perished in the fall.

Concept Goals: Play a Paladin, except his god is deaaad. Get noticed for it, like a cleric for a dead power. Maybe find a new God for him, and live happily ever after until murdered.

Character Goals:

Cope with the death/silence of Torm and the loss of the voices :(
Be an exemplary paladin without powers
Fulfill the duties of a knight
Become a leading figure in the Watch
Become a Prefect?

This character mostly exists to try and promote a realistic lawful good philosophy in the face of the grim dark future. I've enjoyed roleplaying an articulate, philosophical warrior (with a slight depressive edge).

Epitath:

Quote from: Trout ManI wished more people played paladins like you do. You make them redeemable, interesting, three dimensional, relatable, human, and brave.

He doesn't hide behind his code and use it as an excuse to not think, he studied its merits, and determined that he wanted to follow it. There is thought behind his actions instead of arbitration, and for that I salute you, sir.

Keep up the good work, I am suitably impressed.

As my primary character is a Paladin I spend a lot of time reflecting on the ethics of various IC decisions and interactions, because I think thats what my character would do. It is, at first glance, almost impossible to rationalize a Paladins code of Law, Good, Mercy, and Honor as we conceive it against a world so dark and grim as EFU's - and this interplay is certainly one of the main features of the class.

But I've also been thinking lately that perhaps I've done my characters a disservice in the past, by applying a blaise modern conception of morality to them, rejecting violence as a last worst resort, trying to forgive everyone, and expecting a strong centralized government to handle things.

For a specific recent example, my character walked in on a Superior officer giving a suspect a beating with a club in an interrogation room. I, and my character, were momentarily stunned and quite reasonably, did not know how to react, before muttering a lame excuse and being off, thinking to myself "now my Paladin has to be guarded and suspicious of that man, and seek ways to bring them to justice". But then I stopped and considered - is beating a prisoner always 'wrong', full stop? If it's not torture, then his beating may be his just punishment under the law (the concept of corporal punishment being one we're not used to in the first world). Perhaps the suspect was evil or had commited some egregious offense, and was deserving of it. Does not my Paladins very god, Torm, have in his dogma "Give traitors swift and painful death"?

This is all rambling a bit, but I'd just like to invite or provoke people into exercising a less modern concept of what is socially and morally acceptable. It can certainly help, if nothing else, with how reprehensible EFU's environment seems sometimes.
