::[ Alturiak 16th : Year 165 : 1387 DR ]::

For almost a month the raids upon the surface world have waged a growing guerilla war on the Dread Empire's patrols. Discovery of the fate of small settlements and homesteads has brought sorrow to the hearts of Sanctuary's people, and the stream of survivors entering Sanctuary has pleased local merchants and landlords alike. The sorting process is swift: some survivors bring strange mutations and sicknesses with them, and quickly find themselves ushered into the Public Housing Vaults of the city... there to be forgotten. Those bringing riches find their way to the High Apartments or Final Sanctuary. Those with martial skills join the Watchers and Warders, or local mercenary and adventurer bands, turning their attentions back on surface conquest. Those few who do not belong, and those disillusioned by the Sanctuary that has "rescued" them, hear the cryptic call of the Covenant.

As Sanctuary changes, so its peoples respond...
  • The Spellguard have grown ever more reclusive, in spite of the conflicts with the House of Governance their focus has noticeably shifted into the illusion chambers of the Machine. As long as the baublium continues to flow, they have better things to do.
  • The elves of Sanctuary, it is said, continue to mull over a mysterious offer from the Revenant Court following recent attempts to evict them by the late Councilor Howard Godfrey.
  • Scrappers are beginning to ply their trade on the surface, with high profile "finds" marking a new era of opportunity for the halfling scavengers. The chatter is that Scrappers brave enough to go to the surface will surely join the so-called "Scrapper Princes" who live out a luxurious retirement in in Final Sanctuary's halfling hills.
  • Finn Mouldercrest and the so-called "Council of Fat Men" who manage Roaldhe Gould's estate have been heard in the elite circles of Upper talking about sponsoring surface raids. Along with this talk... it is rumoured also that the former Director, Roaldhe Gould, who has not been heard of since Eleint of Year 163... may be stirring from a lengthy coma.
And todark, word has spread that the House of Governance is organising a critical diplomatic mission to the surface world... and invites the bravest adventurers to volunteer.

//OOC: I will be running a DM quest approx 1 hour from the time of this post

Todark Mayor William Bresley spoke words that have since been called "The Three Decrees".

Some remark upon the increasing influence of the Exile Collective in Sanctuary because of William Bresley's talk of reaching out to any and all who would aid in the struggle against the Dread.

However, others point to an olive branch given to the Reformed Order of the Spellguard as more significant, for it suggested that the Watchers and Warders would not be disturbed from their activities within Final Sanctuary and the Dunwarren Machine. It was surely a warning to those still calling for the abolition or further hollowing out of the old institutions of Sanctuary.

Still others speak in more conspiratorial tones that the Secretary Calandra Thervion is the real puppeteer of these developments, and that this whole spectacle might be yet another public volley in the Spellguard's chaotic internal affairs.

Flyers around Sanctuary have begun to take on a new mood: an enthusiastic drumbeat for war.

Tensions in the institutions of Sanctuary were revealed todark, when engineers began to assemble a machine in the House of Governance under Spellguard direction. Indeed, some say the Senior Animator Basian Dhimani himself was supervising. Amid a larger crowd that included members of the Council, the Watchers and Warders, and the Knights of the New Path, Secretary Calandra Thervion and Mayor William Bresley confronted a smug and evasive Dhimani about the purpose of the machine.

After heated words were exchanged, it was revealed that the machine was merely a dispenser of specialty coffee. Some say that this development left egg on the faces of the distressed councilors and onlookers who nearly rioted in the House of Governance over such an insignificant matter. Others suggest the Senior Animator was stooping to petty provocation of the former Spellguard Operative Calandra Thervion, and that he had better things to do with his time.

Nonetheless, the dispenser itself and its range of coffee selections was received with considerable delight even by the early objectors. Some civil servants say they have never seen the bureaucracy working so well.

Alas, those close to Dhimani say the dispenser was set up for a limited time only to "help an old friend".

Announcements / Crafting systems are now disabled
April 27, 2017, 12:08:08 PM
Pending a comprehensive restructuring of EFU crafting systems, all crafting systems will henceforth be disabled (as of next reset).

This includes:
  • Alchemy
  • Herbalism
  • Cooking
  • Engineering
  • and more
Sorry to those impacted by this, but you can rest assured that a new, fresh, better, properly-balanced, not-nerfed, fun-to-explore crafting system is on its way. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

I will be posting more about this in times ahead, and may provide some opportunities for players to contribute to the next wave of crafting.

Lights flick on throughout the Dunwarren machine. A blur of shadow and bright tells of systems once dormant, or perhaps never used at all, buzzing to life.

In Sanctuary, there are cries of triumph from Agents. Warders whisper to each other in wonderment, in curiosity. What might be the cause of such joy?

Some breakthrough. Some terrific thing.

A rumour spreads that ordinary citizens of Sanctuary can now purchase a Ring of Final Sanctuary for ten thousand Sanctuary Sovereigns.

A rumour spreads of a change in Dunwarren. Of illusion chambers. Of marvels never before seen under the earth.

A rumour spreads that an exhilarated Spellguard Operative: Senior Animator Basian Dhimani was seen in Freedom Square, and there remarked to the statue of Frederick Bresley: "I found the surface for you, idiot. It was here the whole time."

v4_1852

I have made changes to a variety of quests.
- Removed quite a few dissipating potions from loot tables.
- Added a chance for "powerup placeables" to various quests.
- Also added random encounters to some quests to generally increase variability.
- Reconfigured some mean old quests which are not done very often to make them a bit more generous
- Have hopefully done some bug fixes as well

I have also added a new quest. The questgiver will sometimes appear in the inns of Sanctuary.

As usual, if you notice any issues with any of this, post them in the Bug Reports forum.

Template for DM Statement of Interest

Below is a basic template for filling out a DM Statement of Interest.

Name/Account:
Time-zone/playing hours:
Past characters:
Age:

What previous DM'ing experience do you have, if any?

What talents do you possess that would be relevant to the EFU DM staff?

What sort of things would you see yourself doing as a member of the EFU DM staff?

Where do you see yourself disagreeing with the EFU DM staff policies/decisions/philosophies or what are your differences with us?

Why do you want to be a member of the EFU DM staff?

How high would you describe your level of enthusiasm for the idea of DM'ing?

What else do you think we should know?

Forum Purpose

This forum is a place where players can (anonymously) submit a DM'ing Statement of Interest to the EFU DM team.

This is not a place to "apply to become a DM." The DM selection process remains the same in EFU as it has always been - namely, that we invite a player after we as a team are totally convinced that they would be better for the server as a DM than as a player.

The primary purpose of this forum is for us to be able to easily know who among our player-base is particularly excited about becoming a DM, and who would prefer to remain a player. We also would like to know something about the player's attitude, experience, talents and so on about DM'ing so we can make a more informed decision.

Of course, anyone who we ask to join our DM'ing team will always be approached and questioned before invited, in addition to anything he/she would post here.

If you are interested in making a Statement of Interest, please post in a new thread in this forum indicating such. Your post should follow this outline:

After you have posted in this forum, a DM will move it into a new forum for reference. If later on you wish to revise or update your Statement of Interest, feel free to do so by making a new thread. Of course, don't spam us mercilessly. No posts in this forum will be viewable by regular players (with the exception of this one, because it's an announcement).

One other thing - please, please do not be offended if we do not select you, or if we don't approach you. This forum is intended to provide a resource for us. If we don't ask you about DM'ing, it may be because we think you're a better player, or we may think you don't play enough, or we may think your timezone is covered... it's hard to say. Or maybe we just really don't like you. But bottom-line, don't be offended, this forum is definitely not something anyone should expect to illicit enthusiastic and immediate responses from us.

For me, and many others, DM'ing has been an incredibly rewarding (if difficult) experience. Regardless of whether we ever approach you in the future, I sincerely thank you for your interest - it means a lot to us that people are interested in helping pitch in and contribute towards this project.

EDITED ADDITIONAL NOTE

I would invite players who are interested in becoming DMs to also feel free to submit some examples of content that you'd bring to the table. It is important to make clear that an EFU DM does not need to do everything, but it is important that we have a sense of what ways you'd be able to contribute to EFU.

1) A rough outline of a potential plot you'd be interested in running
2) A few examples of some one-off DM quests you think would be enjoyable
3) Email an area that contains a placeable filled with customized and/or generic DM loot you believe would be suitable for EFU
4) Submit the rough area of a potential EFU quest, or exploration/random areas, or other interesting area. Examples of NPCs, shops, new monsters - etc.
5) Link or remind us to some prior contribution to the EFU community (assisting with documentation of something; building some kind of add-on of any kind that helps players somehow)
6) Anything else you think we'd be interested in seeing or that you think you'd be able to contribute towards the benefit of EFU.
