Title: Team-Nature communication system.
Post by: SN on May 13, 2009, 09:24:59 AM
As far as it stands, the Ziggurat sendings give the 'Stone-team' a horrid advantage over the 'Nature-team'.

As in: To make a sending about something important, first of all, one needs to get into the Zig. Second of all, the sendings can be heard only in the areas surrounding the Zig. (I recall them working earlier deeper in the wilds, but it seems not anymore)

So, I suggest some sort of an communication system for the 'Nature-team'. As in, a 'device' in several wilderness areas, like a magical tree/bush/rock/flower/mushroom/wtfever, usable only by either druids/rangers, or perhaps even those of the Steward faction (eventhough im inclining myself more to the first option), through which you can speak to the others in the 'Team-Nature' (Hells, druids can listen to the whispers of the trees, squeeking of birds, etc.).

As it stands for now, I recall several occassions, on which I wanted to meet up with one of the wilderness PC's, walking around for 2 hours, stealthed of course, missing each other on the way.

IMO, what I'm suggesting is reasonable, the wilds are deadly to travel as it stands, 'Nature-team' is spread out everywhere, starting from WYldwater, Stargazer Village, Elfwood etc etc. Meeting up, when AVOIDING metagaming such as "// Dood, wtf are you, im walking the whole island for the fifth time, and I wanna RP with you.", or the semi-meta tell to a nature-dude who just logged on "[There have been a leaf with a message left here, there, and there and there and there, telling to meet there and there ASAP]" is just a pain in the arse.

I'd love to see this somehow implemented, and IMO, would give the Nature-Team an easier way to meet up and do something TOGETHER, instead of wasting time looking for each other for hours and/or travelling to the Zig to make a sending which the others will probably not hear anyway as they are in the wilds where the sendings dont work.

Nature team has plenty of benefits that aren't available to the larger population of The Ziggurat.

I dont see it is about weighing benefits Zig-Nature, he is simply saying, and this is true; There is no system which enables us to find eachother with ease. Move two areas away from the Zig, and you can not hear sendings-most nature folk ARE more than two areas away from the Zig and we do like to find eachother as well, just like anyone. Now, it can be a meta thing, or it can be 'leaves a leaf with X on it' Or it could be a sendingsystem. I dont see what is wrong with it. It can be fun roaming about but finding eachother is unlikely this way. Hence i think its a good suggestion.

I phrased the first sentence wrong and you seemingly took it as a Pro/Con thing.

What I had in mind, and suggested, is something to make the nature-doods have an easier way meeting up together. As simple as that.

As druids can listen to the trees/birds/winds/badgers/moss/mushrooms wtfever, we can continue communicating IC in tells, NP. I just thought it would be a fun suggestion.

Like carrier pigeons.

I didn't take it as a Pro/Con thing, I merely explained (aside from the lack of tangible explanation for such a system) why there is nothing for "Team Nature". Using tells, as I'm sure you are aware, is metagaming.

A set of stones that glow certain colors when activated might be enough for communication needs.

I got a good laugh outta this

EDIT:
Oh by the way I assume you mean by 'team nature' anyone who lives mostly outside the ziggurat - if there's actually a faction referred to OOC as 'team nature' that gets some perks from DMs then well...

I still got a good laugh

It's not much of a mechanical advantage, it's more as an advantage to offer players oportunities to get together without havin to cheat.

It must be really hard not metagaming :(

If you don't know what the benefits are, Chuckles,  it's not to say they don't exist. People seem to have forgotten that Mort added some very cool stuff for Nature-oriented characters not so long ago.

At the behest of players, no less!

Well i know ONE druid who plays a druid, and he doesnt share my time zone, so 'find out in game'Is a hard thing. I appreciate there is alot of cool stuff, but i dont know about it.

Even herbalism i made a post asking if there is ANYONE teaching it, Ahmed knows a bit of alchemy to share, but for the rest i can not find ONE player who plays when i play who can assist me. I ask you...how do we 'find out in game'

Ya that herbalism...  I guess I don't want to give any OOC tips on what all types of combinations I've tried but I've tried A LOT with absolutely no results.  I've even investigated other methods IG, such as asking others for wisdom.  The only person on the server who I know who possibly knows some combinations is a stargazer named
Hide
- who may or may not be dead IC.

I guess once summer starts up and I have more time to play I will try even more combinations

You can use scribbed notes. I know that in Sanctuary, nature-folks wouldn't use the sending as they thought it was unnatural and mechanical and controlled by the Spellguards, so they used notes to communicate with eachother and left them on the ground.

Yeah, real scribbed notes that you leave on the road.
