Yo,
I have a suggestion. It might be too much of a hassle to do this with old items, but it might be worth considering when you make new stuff:
Instead of making Items with 1 Charge/Use of "some spell" and 1 Charge stored in the Item, how about making it so that the Item is 2 Charges/Use of "some spell" and include 3 Charges stored in the Item? Or 5 or 7 or whatever. That way, the item doesn't vanish when you use the last casting as there is still 1 (useless) Charge left in the Item.
Now, for all I know, that armor with 1 Charge/Use and 1 Charge of "Cure Moderate Wounds" is purposefully made to include this humerous self-destruct button that will leave you slightly healed but naked on the battlefield. :D
Anyways, if this isn't always what you want, I submit this fix.

You will find there is plenty of loot with this setup.
Oh. Only found self-destructable stuff so far. Oh well. Disregard then.
This is often intentional.
I miss the duergar robes that had a description about how embarassing it was for the duergars' highly effective color spray spam tactics to leave their 'wearers' naked afterwards. :(
This can be very annoying when the item has properties (such as armor) that are useful even after all the charges are depleted, but barring this being your first OOC encounter with charged items, you should know when you're going to blow up an item after you do it accidentally once or twice.
I can recall an interesting quest that Morva ran around naked on when he self-destructed his armor to buff himself, wolol.
Agreed, a bit of warning, I'm actually hesitant to use last charges to avoid causing a self-destruct
