Title: NPC Glow, Monster Scaling, And You
Post by: FleetingHeart on June 04, 2009, 01:26:29 AM
For those of you who are annoyed by monsters that glow blue/green/red when you hit tab. This is for you.

For those of you who are annoyed by monsters that have been shrunk and are showing a white skeletal outline of their original sized model. This is for you.

For those of you are just annoyed. Well, I can't help you.

Just unzip and drop it in your override folder.

^_^

UPDATE: Just updated the origninal override. Nothing should change. I just decided that it would be best to make the override based off of the most recent Bioware version of the appearance.2da, rather than some random version I had lying around.

And, if this doesn't work for any reason, let me know. It's likely that it is because of other overrides I am using. If you notice any problems they will likely be of the sort where certain monsters don't appear correctly. (For a safe and quick test just drop into the gobsquat. If anything will have problems it's the goblins)

Will you still be able to target them just as easily with this? I.E. clicking on the regular sized white skeletal outline to target a sand spider?

Actually, clicking the white skeletal outline of the sand spiders never worked for me. I always had to click the actual model. This remains the case, as the outline will no longer be visible.

Does this remove the tab glow entirely, or just make it white?

Good. I won't be tempted to abuse it to see things at a distance anymore then.

Exactly! Although nameplates still do show up (thankfully). But it certainly makes the game feel a little less.. gamey

One thing I did notice while playing with it a little more tonight, weapons and shields still glow. I'm not entirely certain that that can be altered. But it is still a huge improvement.

I'm bringing this up, because I found out this override was the cause of some monster skins to be messed up. Harpies look like Gargoyles, Floating skulls like wraiths, mindflayers like penguins, and some other messed up stuff. But I really like the non glowing thing, and the fact that it makes it look less gamey. So, if anyone can fix it, I would appreciate. For now, to fix only the glowing in scaled monsters, I'm using this one. http://nwvault.ign.com/fms/Download.php?id=130035 it's the second best option, IMO.

This one still has the glow in all other creatures (//%22http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=189&d=1297385796%22). Which some people like.

And this one, no mindflayer penguins and no glowing. Click here. (//%22http://www.mediafire.com/?2h3sheei26j83rm%22) (Fixed now, thanks to Mort)

yay

This is really great, thank you!

Minor nitpick: weapons held by characters are still glowing.

Yeah, right? I'm enjoying it so much, at the beginning, it gets hard to find and target, but after you get use to it, it's awesome. Couldn't find a way to remove the weapons glow, but I think they're nice.
