Title: Backpacks and Quivers
Post by: FleetingHeart on June 07, 2009, 09:35:06 PM
Not to steal your thunder Mort. I think we both came up with this independantly at nearly the same time.

Simply put, I think it would be awesome if there were a slash command to equip a quiver or backpack object on your back.

If anyone else thinks so. Please show your support.

Maybe even the sabbard objects.
Title: Why?
Post by: Nights Bane on June 07, 2009, 09:38:35 PM
Why?

Whats the point? Seems like needless scripting.

Post by: Secutor on June 07, 2009, 09:40:29 PM
Aesthetics are never needless, sir.

Post by: FleetingHeart on June 07, 2009, 09:54:48 PM
Scabbard, even. And as for why? Because Mort already asked in IRC if this would be something people would enjoy.

I'm saying I would enjoy it.

This is probably easy to script, and therefore desirable.

Would deffinately look good on those long trips into the island or for those that want to stand out as an archer. Deffinately like the idea.

Fully in support!

/c setbackpack quiver/backpack/scabbard works now i think. Tried it with my elf, looks great.

Post by: FleetingHeart on June 07, 2009, 11:45:02 PM
Oh! So it does. Ooops!
Title:
Post by: Drakill Tannan on June 08, 2009, 01:56:43 AM
Add one more on support of this suggestion.
Title:
Post by: FleetingHeart on June 08, 2009, 02:13:10 AM
It's already in effect. I failed.

Post by: Raposa_Fox on June 08, 2009, 02:16:15 AM
'greatsword' works too. Please, post more if you know more. so far is:

/c setbackpack:

 - backpack
 - scabbard
 - quiver
 - greatsword
Title:
Post by: Mort on June 08, 2009, 02:27:36 AM
Yes. I already implemented that.

- backpack
- backpack2
- quiver
- quiver2
- scabbard
- scabbarda
- scabbardb
- scabbard2
- scabbarda2
- scabbardb2
- greatsword

are the valid commands for it.

And Yes, I asked <_< But I had already implemented it in secret.

This is awesome. I saw a guy with a quiver on his back earlier and thought he got some sick customized skin or something. Awesome job, great scripting!

Post by: Caddies on June 08, 2009, 03:48:55 AM
Awesome.

Is there a command to clear the backpack to normal?
Title:
Post by: Skrillix on June 08, 2009, 03:50:40 AM
/c backpack none
Title:
Post by: Mort on June 08, 2009, 04:35:13 AM
I'll open the debate with an extension of that:

Would you like to be able to change your headset at any time? Have access to the other locked headsets (for humans), etc. and be able to change them at any time to reflect your character's growth or change.

For example -- Your enemy shaves off your beard or you shave off your beard or you grow mutton chops or you lose an eye or you decide to wear a hat or a hoodie... ETC.

Pros? More customization. Less DM being plagued for individual customization requests. Chance to really tailor your character's appearance to what is happening to your character.

Cons? Players have to be mature not to abuse this or do silly things (which I think they are). Requires more responsability.

I am all for this, one of the few draw backs in NWN is seeing the same versions of a head, it starts too look like were all inbred on the Zigg.  Folks love their customization, and if folks abused it, as someone invariabley does, easier I would imagine to deal with one or two cases of that vs.endless minute customization requests to DMS, who could be working on more fulfilling tasks.
Title:
Post by: Skrillix on June 08, 2009, 06:12:44 AM
More customization is good customization.

Customization is cool. Great work, Mort.
Title:
Post by: Caddies on June 08, 2009, 06:36:22 AM
Definitely for the heads as well.
Title:
Post by: Wern8 on June 08, 2009, 07:22:58 AM
Yes please.
Title:
Post by: Vlaid on June 08, 2009, 01:40:37 PM
Definite yes to the changeable heads. I've often had changes to my PC and thought about changing my model's head, but just didn't want to bother the DM's about it.
Title:
Post by: MoonlitNight on June 08, 2009, 01:49:04 PM
Yes that would be fun.
May i add that the colour/armour crafting menue is far from efficient, or would i get smitten. I have seen numerous easier, better, more logical, systems around...i would even go as far as to obtain examples for you, Mort, would you so like/need.
Title:
Post by: 9lives on June 08, 2009, 02:10:58 PM
Eh. Not down with player ability to change heads at a whim.
Title:
Post by: Broken Crockery on June 08, 2009, 02:27:36 PM
I am for heads, and would second Moonlitnight's suggestion for more easily customizable armors/colors.

I'm totally in favor of being able to change heads for the simple reason that it would be great to be able to pull up your cloak's hood in the rain.  Maybe shave your head?...

Lose the beard would be cool.  With my previous PC, when Dughlas became the head of the Lathanderites, I thought it would be cool to have him shave his beard to look more leaderly...

Post by: Blackstone on June 08, 2009, 03:08:41 PM
Totally for the changing of heads!

imagine someone goes to great lengths to change their appearance, by gluing on fake beards.. or simply choosing to cover their face with a cowl.

Loos an eye? Instead of just putting "an eye is dead" in the char description you take the eyepatch head!

Brilliant. Wayy for it.

Post by: Snoteye on June 08, 2009, 03:32:30 PM
All players are for ability to change heads.

So, I'll simply veto it.
Title:
Post by: Sion Ti'ren on June 08, 2009, 03:57:36 PM
I'm a player, and I'm strongly against it. your face isn't something you should be able to change over night.

If this gets implemented I'll demonstrait the stupidness by changing my face every ten seconds. It will be like everyone became a shifter!

Sion, I thought you ragequit.
Title:

To prevent abuse, perhaps all headsets for chosen Race avail at character creation (there are alot of NPC headsets we cannot atm, access). Then get DM approval for any further changes. Nothing fancy, like a mini app, or Just a question in the DM Questions Private section. "I got my eye ripped out, can I change the headset to reflect it" type of thing. That way, DM's only need approve it, instead of actually dealing with it? (Well, approveing is dealing with it, only less so)  Also, I think most players here, regardless of IRC, are of a higher caliber then your average hack and slash mod, and would not rampantly abuse this, except Sion. He already promised to abuse it, so a forgone conclusion there.:P
Title:
Post by: Mort on June 08, 2009, 04:37:22 PM
Yeah. We'll just retire people who aren't mature enough to handle this if this comes to pass.
Title:
Post by: DeputyCool on June 08, 2009, 04:37:54 PM
It's simple. We'll add it, and make being dumb with it a first time bannable offense. IMO.

I agree with Sion with one exception.

Ad a /c hood command that swaps your current head set for the hooded heatset of the chosen race (Dwarves half orcs and.. i think gnomes woulnd't have any, but other races wpuld)
Title:
Post by: Raposa_Fox on June 08, 2009, 06:54:05 PM
Agreed with Drakill, with the adicion of a /c sethead eyepatch, for humans. So, It would be limited to Hoods and eye-patches.

Post by: Skrillix on June 08, 2009, 07:01:25 PM
Provided the DMs are willing to keep an eye on any inane abuses of this (which hopefully will be less work than plowing through all the applications this would otherwise require), I don't think that there will be many problems with this.

What the headsets represent, essentially, are different hairstyles, and headwear. It is relatively simple to change headwear, and similarly, if you want to make sense of changing hairstyles (aside from the fact that it grows / is cut), wigs.

Perhaps we could have the ability, at startup only, to change out peg legs and hooks as well? Maybe even remove arms and portions of arms? I may be going too far with this, but these seems like such trivial things to always have to bother a DM for.
Title:
Post by: 9lives on June 09, 2009, 02:51:03 AM
Every time a bearded person loses an eye, they have to simultaneously shave and/or shorten their hair. DNW.
Title:
Post by: Drakill Tannan on June 09, 2009, 02:12:31 PM
I won't complain about the eyepatch thing, but it's not something i'm looking foward to. /c hood command is good for me.

And since we're proposing new customisation stuff, how about the posibility of dye the character's hair in some shop arround the zigg?
Title:
Post by: Raposa_Fox on June 09, 2009, 09:04:09 PM
Suggestion to make the backpack command more practical: (( /c setbackpack next  ))

I don't know if it is easy to script, but it is surely easier, and makes more free spaces in the quickbar

Changing your head, if it does get implemented, will NOT be a legitimate form of IC disguise.  It is just a fun/aesthetics feature.
Title:

i didn't realize it was hard to just find which one you wanted, or just keep it in the IG journal or something

By the way, for those who want the backpacks or bazookas plus the cloaks: http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/showthread.php?p=130442#post130442

Would hood be a good disguise thing? it makes sence to me..

Post by: Raposa_Fox on June 11, 2009, 03:52:19 AM
I think if it is to be implemented, it should also unlock the NPC heads. I've seen a PC today walking with an NPC head, some of them are really cool, the only way to have a helmet that shows the face. So, we don't have to annoy the DMs begging for a NPC head, that could be implemented ... IMO.
