Title: Kobolds ECL-1?
Post by: Egon the Monkey on July 11, 2009, 01:13:07 AM
I was joking about this to LiS, and then thought "hang on, maybe that might make sense". All Kobolds get are penalties, soo... How about giving them ECL MINUS one to balance that out, so we might see a few lasting as long as successful Goblin PCs have? Thoughts?

Kobolds simply aren't meant to be strong or level up fast.

And Goblins are?

Hold on while I argue some logic for a moment, please.

Goblins are, to my knowledge, greedy, cunning sods, who are well capable of holding on their own right. Kobolds are sort of their reptilian opposite.

Kobolds are, according to what I recall, of 'dragon's blood', though to a minor enough degree that it doesn't manifest (in fact, I recall them being Dragon-kin or something like that). How would it make sense that they're all weaker than Goblins, who are roughly of their strength? Doesn't make any sense to me that they're so heavily penaltized.

Disclaimer: I'm not familiar with all D&D Material, so I could be making mistakes on the whole Kobold decent and such

No.

They are perfectly fine as is, and are fully capable of crushing spawns.

They gain +1 ac meaning of all the non ecl races on efu:a they have the most possible ac. A kobold in a full plate and +1 large shield for example: 10 Base ac + chainshirt 4 AC +4 Dex ac +1 Size Ac +1 Natural AC +3 shield ac = 23 ac before barkskin and protection from alignment which would bring it to 28 ac.

Goblins get good stats also boosted stealth is quite useful as a rogue or any stealth using class

Goblins aren't meant to be strong or level up fast either.  They're both basically just meant to be vermin subraces pretty much, and the perk for playing them is basically just that.  If that isn't your idea of a perk then playing that subrace probably isn't for you.

What a silly suggestion.  We would then be open to having level 11 kobolds, you realise.

It's a little known fact that if a PC kobold rises to the level 11, he becomes a kobold demigod. Kobold gods are level 12.

Right. Bung that one on the Fail pile. Maybe I shouldn't post my late night inspiration. :P
