Title: Clothes maker not on Zig
Post by: Thomas_Not_very_wise on July 17, 2009, 02:43:46 AM
Can we have a clothing designer in the Exiled Camp, Starwood village, and other such places?

Some of us want our sexy outfits and don't wanna go into the zig to do it!

Druids or rebels are not suppose to have good clothing tom tom.

Kyaelis wears very stylish clothing, silly. She needs to keep up with the times or all of her druid friends are going to laugh at her. D:

EDIT: Not to take over Thomas's thread, but something else was on my mind about the tailoring system. Can the DM's make it so that you can talk to the models and change what race they are? Clothes on say, a dwarf, look a lot different than they do on a human. My other concern was why there aren't any CEP clothing models. There's hardly as many options without them.

CEP = haks, and it has been a long server tradition to eschew the use of haks. However, you would be surprised the kinds of combinations and sweet styles people can come up without them.

Clothing model dummies are the same race the tailor is, Q has been asked in the past.

As far as the race of the model goes. I find it is generally easiest to simply design your stuff in the toolset first to get an idea of what it looks like on your own character, and on the model. Then, when you toggle through with the next or previous options, everything is in the same order as it was in the toolset. Simple to match it up, even if the races are different.

But, yeah. Perhaps out in the desert would be a great place for this kind of thing.

It wouldn't be too far out having something like this at the exiled camp.  Just have more naturistic themed styles.  Leaf, Animal hide and plenty of options are available in the wilds aswell as the zigg.

Slightly off topic, can it be made so the camara doesn't automatically zoom and more each time you modify a part of the armor when tailoring? it's annoying as hell.

Yeah. Turn off dialogue zoom in your NWN options in game.

Also, someone (Cruzel?) had a script to properly index the range of dye colors and pick those by hand, rather than having to endlessly cycle through the colors to get your outfit to match up.

I did and do, but that system is based on a module that doesn't have the stuff EFU:A does, and even from my viewpoint the current way it is made is sloppy at best. I'm currently in the process of rewriting it to better mesh with EFU:A's current systems, and so it won't give our resident efficiency nazi's  multiple heart attacks when they read it.

This is a long and tedious task out though, because for something like this there is no choice but to manually type out every color's name. (175 colors and  a few group names) This is something that is more on the sideburner for me, as I'm working on stuff i consider much cooler,  I work on this and other things when I'm stuck with a bug or piece of code on another project.

You should name them by color and position.

By position I mean where they are on the color grid when you are modifying the color in the toolset.

Back to the OP:

I agree with Thomas 100%.  The first response of 'not supposed to have good clothing' is ridiculous.  I'd agree that druids, rebels, and naturey folks won't have fine clothing, but why wouldn't they have good clothing?

I agree with Behemoth

Nobody at the Exiled Camp or Starwood would care enough to make nancy clothing for Will Scarlet to get his red tights in, tbh. It's a harsh nature, there's not going to be a tailor out there for convinience.

No.
No
no
no.

You do not understand!

We merely wish a tailor, is this so hard to ask? A -leather- tanner would do wonders for us...

Yes, that's not the point at all. A -tailor- is an IC thing, not an OOC thing. A -tailor- is someone who spends their time customising outfits to make you look pretty. In the wilds, you do not want to be unique and pretty. You wear what you can find or you wander into the fancy pants city and get some nice clothes.

If you want to wear leather, people sell leather. Just not leather custom made for your delicate form, with baubles and tassles.;
