Title: NEW QUEST SYSTEM BUGS!
Post by: djspectre on July 31, 2009, 11:32:59 PM
Today I tried out the new party-less questing system and experienced the following on the GNOLL BEASTMAN TRIBE HUNTERS PREY QUEST:

1.) radius of NPC to give quest is barely able to fit 4 people around it before character collision detection bumps people out of the way. This is a problem with non-NPC given quests (little blue floating quest givers) because they are often against a wall and cannot be surrounded with a party of 8. You would have to basically get the quest then 'add' the rest of the party to it.

2.) this quest, upon attempting to abandon it, did NOT abandon it. We each tried choosing the 'cancel quest' option, but to no avail.

3.) The quest token seems to have the ability to invite players individually while not nearby the questgiver (BTW, this feature is AWESOME, except:).....it doesn't work. I tried it on a paladin while in the ziggurat and his screen said "ERROR: No Quest Data Available" despite my combat log stating that an invite was sent and to wait for their response.

4.) the quest token has a weight of 0.3. While this may not be a lot, it should weigh nothing...like the character and pvp tokens do since this is an ooc item and should not impact the character.

This is all for now.

I finished delivering scrolls to Kingsman. He mentioned that Peters had work for me, but instead of the little back and forth between the two NPCs, the conversation ended immediately with no chance to hit him up for a little something.

As of the last reset, I did this again and it worked! Yay <3

Make the radius bigger please. And cudos on all of this Mort! I love it!

The radius is small because some quest giver are in public areas and we dont want them to add everyone there to the quest.

All those have been fix, I believe.

A suggestion;

Instead of forcing parties to be of the minimum number of players required for the quest standing around the quest giver, perhaps make it so that the minimum amount of players must have the quest for anyone to be able to enter the QA? This way, you can send single people to take the quest, which doesn't work at the Vrazdn quest giver at least, and then add the rest with the token thingy.

Just a thought.

Being because of the new system or not, Craddock's mule quest is bugged, (the 2-4), even succeeding at animal empathy then heal, it does not update your journal, and you get no rewards.

Encountered a bug wherein two people in our party of four did not receive the end quest XP. Of note was that they were subraces, and were added using the tool- whereas the other person who did receive the XP got the quest journal update immediately because he was close to the quest giver.

Craddock's mule quest is still bugged.

AE-ing animals doesn't work. Unless I AE them before anyone attacks them they will continue to attack everyone reguardless of if I have AE'D them

Same as LTS original post.  Just a few hours ago, Kingsman dialogue was cut short.

It seems that the xp does not apply except around the party leader.  I was getting none when I split off from the others even though I was killing things in melee which would give me xp when near the other people.

There is no such thing as a party leader in this new system! EXP has nothing to do with quests, it's to do with each kill now I believe.

by party leader I meant the one who takes the quest.  Xp is supposed to be based on proximity, but far away from this person I was getting no xp as a melee character.

Also, dominated animals now sometimes attack allies.

It shouldn't influence it. I made increase the range for XP if people think it's not large enough. I thought it would be.

Yeah, it seems you can no longer AE animals after someone attacked them.

Done the dock barrows quest (forgot the name) and Lucinda's Rescue, each working as it should except that I got neither a quest completion update nor experience upon finishing.
Never was the one who took the quest in the first place, always was added, but I was also present when the quest got turned in. I could talk to the NPC for the same dialogue over and over, but no update. Experience reward may have been removed for all I know (I did not follow the latest changes too closely), but I was just wondering why the journal wouldn't update right.
Am I supposed to do this differently?

I experienced the same when added by the quest tool. Sounds like a pattern.

This is fixed.

Is there a particular way to enter the name of a character to get set ally to work?  I get a message that there is no such person.  The character name is a two word name, like "Bob Jones".

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but my character was watching (from stealth of course) a cave bear and ogre bandit beat each other up. The bear won and I got an experience point for the kill!

You've learned wild bear techniques of Ogre killing!

Is that a problem? <_< I can remove it if its' a problem ... but tbh, there is not much difference between watching a bear maul an ogre and watching your party warrior maul an ogre.

with the new party system, someone who was accidentally set on Full Damage subdual mode...when they became 'confused' and began attacking other party members, they victim party member was slain and fugued. Under the old system  you couldn't kill your party mates, only 'sparring' them to 1hp.

This unfortunate event happened during the harpies quest at the end.

I know there is a command to 'ally' with people, but perhaps this command to be scripted to be applied AUTOMATICALLY to any who join a quest either by proximity to the Questgiver or when the quest token is used and accepted by the invited player.

The fallen player was under the impression it was a pvp kill, despite no one setting anyone else to hostile.

Summary (since I wrote this as a thought flow)

1.) Have the 'ally' command automatically execute on anyone that is added to a quest party, either by questgiver proxmity or by the quest token (upon the invited player accepting the invite)

2.) If any 'ally' in the party executes the 'hostile all' or 'hostile ' commands either through the Player menu or though the /c command, 'ally' mode is cancelled, exp is ceased and standard FD/Subdual/Spar mode is applied as in pvp.

3.) #2 is so that in-party ambushes can still occur, but can be done in a legitimate manner, but avoids accidental killing while Confused, Charmed or other mind altering effect is active.

Also, what if the party leader (in possession of the quest token) perma's or crashes in such a way that he cannot re-enter the game or his dead body cannot be reached, will the questgiver allow the remaining party members to close the quest? Either to abandon it or complete it?

I ask because the quest token cannot dropped, traded, or put in a pouch and thus cannot be transferred to anyone else.

I didn't think it was much of an issue (at was only one experience point after all) but just wanted to make sure you DM's were aware of it.

That is false. Even under the old system you could fugue your party members if you were on Full Damage Mode.

Yes, I have seen and I have been fugued while being under confusion. And I have also been subdued, most of the time luckily.

I didn't know that.

Guess I always kept my character on sparring....and so did everyone else.

I think some people are over-emphasizing the use of ally.  It is only a tool for making people NOT hostile to you if you ever plan on using /c hostile all.  That's it.  Nothing more.  Most people don't even try going after pvp so they have no need to type /c hostile all.  Which means you never need to use /c ally.

As for the confusion thing, I would honestly make it so you are forced into FD mode in a heartbeat (if the other DMs would let me).  It's so dumb and boring to be under the effect of confusion and have absolutely no worry that you might potentially kill your teammate.  If NPCs are under the effect of confusion, they don't get that luxury!
Quote from: djspectre;140151...but avoids accidental killing while Confused...
You are confused.  You should not be able to avoid accidentally killing a friend because you are confused.

There is absolutely no change at all whatsoever in subdual/FD across Party or not.

If I remember that particular incident, nobody was on FD, but the guy that as being attacked got sent into bleeding by a monster and then the confused party member dealt the finishing blow. This can happen. This could happen before. It has absolutely nothing to do with party system, whatsoever.

okay, sorry, I wasn't aware of that. I guess it was just a random, and unfortunate, combination of events that caused it. honestly never seen that happen that way before.
