Title: Construct Summoning Theme.
Post by: Pinefish on August 04, 2009, 11:15:55 AM
Would it be possible to add a new summoning theme along the lines of constructs, I have been told that such a line does not exist yet and was thinking it would be a good idea so that Lawful Neutral people have something to work with without being forced to go totally goodly or somewhat evil. As far as I know, the forces of Chaos get Slaad but the Lawful alignment people who aren't strictly good or evil but are more focused on the Order/Chaos front are rather screwed over. I have no idea how hard it is to create such so sorry if this is a lot of work and too much to ask though and sorry again if this is wrong as this knowledge has been put together in bits and pieces so I may be way off.

My thanks,

Pinefish

Harder to find a DM willing to do it than to actually do it. Easy enough to add but very tedious.

I am totally in for more summoning themes, 1000239423 ones would suffice.

I would LOVE to see that as default for Metal Domain, an option for most wizards (the tinker archetype) and so on.

Sounds good. Can't you just take an elemental one, though? It's neutral enough, right? Earth is neither totally good nor somewhat evil.

Looking at it from the point of view of my char, cleric of Helm using elementals just doesn't seem all that right seeing as they are constantly fighting to go back to their home plane and the like where as Chaos as i said Gets Slaad who are more than willing to wreak havoc on the plane they are summoned to. Just looking for something that realy fits the whole Lawful role and hopefuly get some cool Chaos Vs. Order stuff going while it happens.

Constructs are too cool to give out as a summoning theme.

I can see what you mean. Perhaps not a construct theme, but a Law theme?

Thats what i'd like, was just naming constructs as from what i've looked at they'd be the best fit. But short of that, anything that fits the whole -Law- thing without being deemed too evil or good would be perfect.

Also, I take it that as they are too good to be given out a summoning theme, they are still possable to get as something else?

Constructs should be constructed not summoned by random wizards if PC Wizards want to obtain Constructs they should do it IG in my opinion.

As far as I know, you have to do something to get certain summoning themes though don't you, through ic persuits?

I wont spoil much but it is possible to unlock constructing your very own Construct and certain regeants for summoning themes can be only acquired IG.

He means it more along the lines of Modrons from Mechanus or the Inevitables than a simple animatron, Dr D.

That is pretty much spot on Brittany, something that represents Law without the whole "oh my god, you are evil" or "Agggg, celestial beings and i'm evil, Cheese it!".

We could make it into a contest. A DM could lay out the basic guidelines for appropriate monster power, and PCs can do all the tedious design work. The winner(s) get their summoning themes added to the module.

I would definitely put the time in to creating all the level variants for a summoning theme for EfU if I thought there was a chance it would get used.

There are several neutral themes, the default one for instance. Spiders, rats, elementals, ozess...

But i agree there is no "lawfull" one. Perhaps constructs as in hovering weapons? sounds lawfull enough to me, not evil nor good and cool. You know, level 1 a dagger, level 2 a longsword, level 3 a greatsword...

Helmed Horrors, the floating Sword in the Helmite Shrine, those sorts of Constructs rather than Stone Golems or Animatrons!

Constructs were well appropriate in UD, but for now, they don't fit in Ymph, imo. Maybe when the spellguards locked in their tower decide to pop up, we'll see more of them. ;)

Construct does not equal Animatron. Animatrons are robots, constructs are anything from animated chairs to floating swords! And I do not see how swords and tables are inappropriate, as long as people do not consider this a request for more Spellguard

Fighting orcs with animated furniture standing at your side would be rad. Like that furniture quest, only that this time, the furniture is at your side.

That would be awesome.
