First of all, thanks Mort once more, for more awesome in the server. More Low level quests, more interesting stuff.
Now ... There is just one problem, and I want those who experience the same to manifest themselves. I loved the gossip/comment system by the colonist NPCs. However, there are so many of them that I get the most terrible lag spikes, those of the kind I only get when there are events and invasions in the Ziggurat, those I unfortunately can't be part of. Now, having difficulties just to walk from here to there is not being fun at all. Is it really necessary that many colonist gossipers? I'm pretty sure at least half of them would be enough. Or maybe I should just get a new computer or video card ...
Thoughts?
Always opt for the new computer/video card! :)
P.S. Mort, you've rocked the server to new heights all the new additions (Zig re-skin, quest/banner system, etc) truly awesome...way to go immersion!
I dunno if it has anything to do about it, but i've been getting lag for the past week. PING has raised from 90 to 110.
I don't know about lag, haven't noticed any, but I can tell you, any lag provided by the colonists or such is quite surely graphic related, and is about your PC's. I don't mind either way if they stay or not, since it does not affect me personally, but perhaps it does those with lower configure pc's.
Creatures have a huge impact on performance. It's entirely possible there are too many.
I too am having horrible lag issues that I've never had before. My computer runs nwn2 without a problem.
I only have issues in the Docks and main Ziggurat areas. Oh, and the market area, but it's always been like that.

Nothing out of the ordinary as far as ping goes.
(I have to find a new host in the UK that lets us ping them. >_>)

The lag spikes I'm talking about is graphic related, that's for sure. The kind of lag I only got at refugee camp or docks, for having too many npcs, but now they are all over. Well, I don't think a reduction on the number of colonist gossipers would hurt. Too many of them pollute the enviornment and bring graphic lag to old computers. I'm not sure if that is desireble, besides, even half of them would bring the same immersion effect, I'm sure.
NWN is a resource hog. I'm currently running a Limited Edition Geforce 250 and still the game stutters at times. I think the real trouble here is caused by North Korea and their hax. >:|
I have lag spikes, and this occurs no where else, even on servers with 200 ping.
I wish people knew the difference between frame rate dropping and a "lag spike."
We aren't freaks Strife, unlike you my lawful evil friend.
Well, Thomas. If your connections ping is, lets say near 200, and efus connection goes with 80, you're going to lag because you can't reach as fast as it does.
Now on server where there is high ping, it's closer to yours, so you don't seem to lag. Now this is only my speculation, can be wrong since I am not that much of an expert.

Oh! Now I know! Well, then read as 'frame rate dropping' all the places I typed 'lag spikes' in this thread.
Thanks ExileStrife, culture is never too much!

Ping is just a time frame that measures how long it takes to communicate with the said server. Real 'lag spikes' come in when packets start getting lost in the expanse of routers they pass through, although a high ping can create a similar effect as well.
The only problems I usually have on EFU are with things that seem to be server side related. Monsters jumping about and slow response from AI for example. These things happen more often with the length of uptime and previously when massive events were happening. These days with the removed party system it seems to have been resolved almost completely.
On this matter, I am curious, what kind connection do those people have that experience these issues?
I have a horrible computer, and I just turned all the graphics down. Runs fine.
At least the huge amount of NPCs is not going to help your game/server run smoother. Although I think this is a very cool thing, some of them could be removed as they tend to say the same rumours? (I don't know the script behind this so they could as well just random what they say)
