Title: Random events: Monsters teleporting through the mithalar
Post by: Drakill Tannan on August 19, 2009, 02:11:28 PM
The ghostwise thread got the thinking, and it is true random monsters should teleport through the muthalar as frequently as humans, but since there are not many monster PCs, why not script monster NPC being teleported as a random event? In the same way as invasions one could have a sending being scripted to warn players about a monster being teleported

"You recive a message from Zyphaem Faseud (or whatever he is called): Something large is being teleported at the top of the ziggurat! it looks like an ogre! somebody come and kill it before it kills half the colonists!"

Or something like that, you get the idea. It would be amusing to see, add yet more variety to the module, and make it so that RPwise everything is being teleported there, not just playable PC races.

There is probably a very good reason that it selects weak folk to teleport. Perhaps it's not all random?

Nduru would not be too happy about it ... On the other hand, opportunist characters would ... If Nduru gets lucky, so do they, since Nduru is so unattached to the material possessions the monsters will bring ...

It has happened, but as a random event?

It has happened as a DM-run event a couple of times.

This is similar to what happens in City of Heroes, where a "Giant Monster" unique to each zone will appear every so often, once certain conditions are met. However, these Giant Monsters are perfectly avoidable by players who don't want to go near them.

The top of the ziggurat is not a place that can be ignored.

It's a nice idea, but there'd need to be some re-design considerations to make it work well.
