I really think these should be toned down a little. Maybe one of those things could be brought down a little as they murder any sneak or invis wizard with ridiculous ease.
They are dangerous, and that is fine in a sense. I would though like if they would not run like hasted monks. They are faaaaaast.
I can understand where you're coming from. I would suggest a different angle, though.
Make them spawn as single enemies, especially since they have great HP.
or
Make them spawn in 2-4s , but with low hp to represent beating back the big evil plant's many appendages. This would make spells like Burning Hands particularly effective in beating them back, which makes perfect sense and just sounds cool. >.>
I'm kind of sort of leaning toward agreeing with this post, but I also kind of like the fact that they kick so much butt. It is impossible to travel alone when they are around.
They don't need to be toned down really. At the very most, I could see limiting their spawn together number to two.
I'm against toning these down.
The areas they're in are pretty obvious, you shouldn't be going alone into those areas unless you're willing to take great risk.
There are lots of things out there that will protect you from them. Sure they will eat any lone mage sneaking arround invisible, but that is fine imo.
Despite what Brit says, they spawn in a lot more areas than you might think. I've ran into them nowhere near the bogs.
I would suggest just making them slow. Then they are still a surprising danger but if the first shot doesn't kill you you can actually make a getaway.
Assassin Vines need to be added to the Hero spawns system, tbh.
Totally what Kotenku says.
In other news, three max seems reasonable.
I've snuck around assassin vines before >_>
.
My suggestion then, if people are absolutely dead set on these being changed is to make two forms of assassin vines. Lesser, and Greater. Greater would be the current kind. Lesser would have 2 less AB, 2 less DC on its parlyze, and move slowly.
Bogs are notoriously dangerous places to walk alone.

Since having people sink down into the muck randomly and die kinda sucks... I feel assassin vines are a perfect compromise to this. Yes, they are fast, but you can outrun them if you're alone and paying attention. Or, you could just avoid going into the bogs alone and be prepared to deal with the dangers that lurk there.
.
The Wooded ruins is basically a Part of the bogs as far as people ought to be concerned.
They're only deadly if you're alone, really. If you're in a group they're not that bad.
Having two or three really nasty spawns out there is part of the flavor of Ymph. If you knew every trekk was a cruise, it'd be boring.
I've quit running around with lone invisible PCs, and it's made me appreciate the isle a lot more. What sucks is dying with no possible counters but it's not the case here.
Assassin Vines? More like Awesome Vines.
Though, I do disagree on people being able to outrun them. My first day, my first PC followed Kethra into the bogs.
Suddenly, Vines! I was in the back, and after everyone else was dead, I fled. I had a good lead on them, but they followed through a transition. And gained quite a bit of ground becasue of it. Second transition I made towards town, the vines managed to catch up completely and then some. They transition instantly, PCs don't.
Invis usually helps. At least it used to, though if you're invis and walk up close they will attack you as most other mobs will.
I think this was already removed and if so I'd say to just leave them how they are. The island is dangerous and the Bogs are one of the most dangerous places, they even have an IC sign that says to keep out because of danger!
I'd say this is a case of just popping in the right potions at the right time. Literally the most common potions in efu can save you from those vines. A fort pot and endure elements will give you a damn good chance of making it out just fine if you are not alone. I would much rather hit a group of three vines than one shargas disciple lol.
Sounds like the Underdark version of Malar beasts to me.
My point is we had a few things that were pretty dangerous when out of town before, and people also complained. I think these kind of spawns are necessary though.
If I'd suggest anything it's that they don't stealth. (They do, don't they?)
The only thing I don't like about them is (If I remember right, been a while!) You need to make a fort save every time they hit you. Every character except the most nagabuilt are going to fail these saves eventually and die. I would say lowering the chance of paralysis when they attack would be enough.
They are fine, leave as is.
It's kinda spoiling for people to share the stats of our custom monsters... on the ooc forum, do not do this in the future please.
This is a rule of our suggestion forum. If you can't make suggestions without revealing the 'unknown' that makes the server mysterious or dangerous, then dont make suggestions based on mechanical aspect of our monsters.
That's why cheat guides usually show you the weakness, strength, HP, AB, all the stats of every monster you face . We dont want that obviously to be made public.
I think they are pretty damn brutal.. As they should be. However, I would like to see their movement rate halved or something. They're vines creeping along the ground, but move faster than the average character can run.
OMFG NOES

... oh hi
Yep. If they were a creeping terrors that snuck up and paralyzed you when you were fighting something else, they would be an avoidable but definite threat and reason to be wary.
Except I ran across an assassin vine two screens south west of the colony.
They are obviously not only in the bogs.
Assassin vines make the need of traveling with a guide tracker (ranger or druid) real. Which is a good thing.
Give assassin vines call lightning.

Careful what you wish for.
i don't think assassin vines produce fun encounters and think an alternative in completing their purpose of warding off invisible people or stealthers or whatever could be best accomplished with another sort of creature, preferably one that does not just appear and stun and kill you with no counter

... oh hi
Ivy god damn turns me on.
And Harley.
Harley Quinn for the win, imo.
Plus this thread is pure silliness now.
Why can't we just make Assassin Vines the way they are in the Monster Manual?
