Title: Remove swam rats
Post by: Cruzel on September 29, 2009, 10:13:40 PM
These spawns are utterly annoying. Swam spawns are supposed to be just that- large amounts of ridiculously weak and easy to kill creatures. As they are now, they seem to have more health than any other rat spawn in the sewers.  If they are supposed to use the swarm script where they 'share' health, that appears to be broken for the moment as well.

These spawns are nothing but a headache and add nothing to the server as they are now.  If their health was lowered drastically and their numbers increased, and/or the swarm HP script working properly I could sort of see these little bastards being fun to  wade through, crushing as we go.  But for the moment they are just ridiculously annoying.

They are awesomely cool spawns to look at, but they are too tough. They're not by any means dangerous, but they do feel a bit silly when they have way more HP than the big rats.

I don't know if it's meant to represent having even more numerous rats than those shown though, so that one rat indicated maybe a group of 5-6.

They're annoying and only seem to harm lower level and new players, I'm all for removing them.

If it's a way to try and make rat hunting less lucrative, change the reward system on it a bit.

They have less health than Dire Sewer Rats. Do less damage per hit, and have a lower chance of hitting than dire sewer rats. Really the only thing that makes them remotely difficult is their swarm properties. They may get tweaked more (they've been nerfed about 4 times now), but they aren't going away.

Fixing their 'swarm' property would probably make them fine, as it is they seem to half permanent 50% DR.

I welcome you to roll up a new character and do the bat tower. You'll find the mechanics to be identical. There is a very good reason for their current DR.

i'm under the impression swarm rats are bugged then, as i am decently sure they just have a straight 50% dr

Having done the Bat Tower with my current and previous character, and gone in the sewers, I've never seen the 'swarm' mechanism work. I heard about the HP loss transferring to the rest of the swarm, but I've never seen it in effect in both places, with either creatures.

It's not the same mechanic at all. The bats share damage when you hit one of them, only the rat you're hitting takes damage (as of two days ago)

This is a bug then. I've just tested the rats in game. They are not working. I tested the bats as well, and they most certainly are working.
