Title: Rallying Cry

This Knight skill has a duration of 1 round in it's default form and is rather failing in comparison to other similar buffs. I would suggest upping the duration of this to make it more useful and fitting.

Just to compare, a level 1 bard with no feats could use bard song once and it outlasts all three uses of Rallying Cry in it's default form.


I would also suggest an increase in heroic shield as it lasts for a single round as well, can only be used once and only upon a single ally.

I agree in upping abilities for knights if they become hard to get. I mean hard requirements that are difficult to achieve.

Heroic shield is actually freaking epic. 4 dodge ac for an ally for a round once a round.

Rallying cry could last like 6 rounds instead of 1 round, since there is a cleric domain that gets it making it too strong would be OP.

Heroic shield can be used once. So for one round until rest a single ally gets 4 AC, it's not good lol.
 
5-6 rounds on rallying cry would be fitting though, yes.

Unless i'm wrong heroic shield can be used unlimited times/day, so it works perfectly: you shield an ally against danger giving him +4 AC, but you can do no other action in the meantime.

Rallying cry seems more like a perk to me, it's like a "Charge" ability but pretty lame. I would suggest to increse it's duration to 3 rounds, and have it grant a 30% movement skill bonus and +2 attack and damage.

Rallying Cry isn't underpowered.

It's a free action, which means at any time at all you can get +1 AB and damage without taking an AoO or sacrificing an action. It will stack with Bard Song, as well as spells such as Aid, Bless, Divine Favour, etc. To make it significantly better (even as much as +2 or +3 to attack and damage) would be an extremely significant bonus to the class, and isn't quite as obvious a change to make as it seems in writing.

Further, given that it was added in 1.69, are we certain that there are no problems associated with modifying this ability?

edit: I'll add, that simply increasing its duration by a few rounds does seem extremely reasonable.

Knight is pretty much the joke of PRC classes, especially on EFU where most are heavily modified to fit the setting (weapon master or pale master anyone?)

Even moving the duration to something like 10 rounds wouldn't do much. I don't think the damage or AB needs to be adjusted, just the duration itself so it's not useless. The class as a whole will still be far weaker than any pure fighter (lost feats) or the common fighter multiclass options. (Fighter/bard Fighter/Rogue)

You guys forget all the prestige, all the girls, political/diplomatic influence that comes with the title of Knight!

I agree on increasing the duration though...

Kotenku, it's +1AB for 1 round... 3 times/day. It doesn't even make up sacrifising 1 levl of anything else.

The thing is...

The knight abilities are instantaneous requiring 0 rounds to be casted, hence, you can pop 'em whenever you want with no malus, AoO, Flatfooted bullshit.

Which makes comparing them to any spells rather useless.

insta-cast +20% move speed, +1 ab, +1dmg -- is a very nice tide turner. Even for 1 round.

Heroic Shield can also be used unlimited amount of times/day...

Maybe if we actually had a Knight PC to begin with could we tune the PRC ... Dont forget the knightly Armor and gear that comes with the class as well.

Heroic Shield is amazing. You get to act like an extra +1 tower shield for an ally.

All of the knight abilities, as mentioned, have no cast time. You can fire them off while doing other things, so you never have to worry about the bonuses depriving you of a round of action.

Plus, I think this prestige class really carries some prestige.

Think about it this way: a higher-powered PrC is going to be even more difficult to get approval for. Knight may not have the most amazing abilities, but they're interesting and hardly useless.

Yes, I can agree with all of that but still find rallying cry very lacking. At most, a level 5 Knight (a level 9-10 character) would receive about 10 rounds of bonuses while, before their usage and after, he is completely lacking in comparison to a pure fighter, not to mention the good multi-class options.

Something with so much prestige should perhaps be mechanically worthwhile as well, especially in the shadow of the other heavily modified PRC classes.

Rallying cry is also given to clerics through a domain, so you can't make it super uber duper gloober moober shoober floober pooper

The DMs have better things to do then make a script for an ability no one even uses, its just silly. IM SORRY IF MY CAPS LOCKS WAS TRANSALATED INTO NO KNOWLEDGE OR OPINION

Clerics with nobility domain have to cast this, I think a boost with something as simple as 3 seconds per level is reasonable (rounded down if necessary)
