Title: efuapps:- Bring it back?
Post by: Daemonic Daz on December 08, 2009, 11:35:03 AM
I'm sure some of our longterm players remember this IRC room, for the newer players I'll enlighten you.

Basically it was a place DM's would take questions regarding apps and  give out pointers/help to players with their apps. Every discussion would be moved to another room for a private discussion or then discussed through private messaging.

I'm thinking of bringing it back for the ones that struggle/are averse to writing applications but i'd like your opinion first, I've not spoken to other DM's regarding this so feel free to chime in as well.

Just a few pro's and cons regarding it:-

PRO'S

1. A dedicated IRC room where players can speak to DM's regarding apps

2. The ability to quickly speak to all DM's in the room with greater chance of getting a timely reply (without annoying DM's)

3. Quickly getting one to one (more depending on interested DM's) advice/pointers from DM's about improving/writing your app

CON'S

1. Cant this be done with a polite PM to DM's in efu? (Yes but some DM's prefer not to idle in efu for obvious reasons and considering the amount of PM's we get, it can take time to get to you)

2. A horde of DM's in one room hearing my question, shit. (Some people actually think this, believe it or not. Thats exactly the kind of thing we don't want people to think, we want people to think they can ask questions about their apps/characters so they know what we want and therefore make EFU a better place for all)

3. Alright, another shitfest IRC chatroo- (no, this room would be specific to app related questions only. Any idlers, spammers or just general dicks trying to spit on the goodwill of people will be banned mercilessly)

This is just a general vote at the minute, but if it's looked upon with favor then I'll see further steps taken.

I think it's quite fine to bring back. Those willing DM there would be always nice to catch up with and chat about possible application or situations.

I think this ought to be feasible without a dedicated place to do so. Nice people should help you out, be they players or Dms.

It's not something I've ever particularly felt like I needed - I never used it when it was active before. If there are people who do feel they could use it though, then I can't see how it'd be anything but a positive.

From what I remember, the channel before was pretty much unused when it existed. It is far easier to  just leave a normal IRC/forum PM or to spam a DM when they start talking in #efu.

The people that really need help with their apps, usually just pose a general question in #efu anyways!

You're underestimating the idle spamdicks but I see where you're going with this. It was never used -that- much when it was around, that I remember at least. Might be worth it, might be not.

#EFUApps wasn't really active when you were around, CRuzel.

If the DMs who are going to be on the channel are interested to help there and not just idle, then I think this is cool.

#efuconcepts was active for how long when it was -recently- created?

why not, all the listed cons can be avoided by... not entering the chatroom if you don't want to

I don't think most people are really aware of efuconcepts. I myself log into it every time I'm on. Some small discussions, but always the same people.

And people will be better aware of efuapps?

If the channel name was mentioned in the #efu title, perhaps. Although I only used it very occasionally, it tended to be very helpful.
