The wolf companion is, quite simply, badass. It is a very well balanced companion suitable for a variety of uses. There is only one problem: its howl ability.
With the EfU AI, the wolf companion will spam howl upon entering combat until the ability runs out. Combined with the non-party system, this means that the moment either the PC or the wolf enters combat for any reason, every NPC in the range of the wolf's howl will also enter combat simultaneously, hostile to the PC with the wolf. This is obviously an undesired effect.
The wolf does just fine without spamming an AoE ability that is much, much more trouble than it's worth when not under direct PC control. This companion would be better with no special abilities at all. Leave it in the wildshape, but take it out of the hands of the AI.
How about we just modify the howl to only affect hostile?
I like Morts Idea tbh
Totally like Mort's idea; didn't even think about it!
Can this be done for all AOE mind affecting creature abilities, like the Chicken's Confusion Gaze, the Fear Howl of the Shadow Mastiff etc too?
That would be fine, too! I didn't realize that was possible.
