Would you take a 4th level monk (with 4th level gear), using unarmed attack into the second half of the wolf quest?
This doesn't mean would you leach off of others and watch them do all the work while you stand there or occasionally fight a normal wolf.
This also does not mean would you take your monk that specializes unarmed fighting in there and use a weapon that can be enchanted, I'm talking using your unarmed attacks and unarmed abilities only. NOT being a leach, and no you don't have +5 anit-lycan omg holy avenger gloves (4th level gear only).
Sure. If you got any guys that seemingly have magic weapon spell in use, sure they can spare one for the monk just as well.
This is because you -can- enchant gloves, that being unarmed fighting. I repeat once again. You do not need a weapon. You can fight unarmed, because the gloves can be enchanted with magic weapon and even flame weapon. This has been said few times already.
Ok, my bad, even if gloves can be enchanted, (which I didn't know/last time (efu) I tried it it din't work, sorry), I don't see where Ki-strike is that big of a deal. In effect it is nothing compaired to the spells that allow the same outcome or enchantments such as all the bonus massive crits that get tossed around for weapons. I mean why do a great swords, great axe's and helberds need massive crit except to make fighters and barbarians killing machines? [shrugs] Something that does no more than allow a monk to simply be able to score a hit is not asking too much...
yeah it's called magic weapon
Monks aren't generally built as damage dealing front liners. They're versatile enough to do a bit of everything. That said; I wouldn't go charging mobs with one.
Don't forget your monk can also heal others, use whatever trinkets, act as a target to keep one opponent busy, deal with wolves, etc.
Not being able to hurt some critters never make a PC useless.
Well equipped, well potioned monk tanking if others can deal the damage - doable, even if monk does none
Monk with nothing distracting and leading enemies around while others do the work - doable
Monk with no magic weapon and a team incapable of dealing any damage - Failboat
Monks can also use daggers and hatchets, of which silver versions are available, if not common
This sounds like a terribly loaded question with a bitter history behind it. Perhaps it would be best to speak privately with a DM if you have OOC concerns over another player. If this is sprouting up from some sort of IC conflict well.... handle it in character. Not in a poll.
But in any case, I've seen monks stand as the front line before everyone else. Properly buffed they can attain the highest AC of any other class.
I've also seen monks destroy things with high damage rapid attacks. They are quite capable in either role. Its is a simple matter of buffs. If you don't have them, you're pretty wimpy. If you do, you're nigh untouchable.
Also, in regards to magic weapon. This -requires- you be wearing gloves.
Not bracers.
Not an empty equipment slot.
Gloves.
Ditto to FleeingHeart's post. This question seems terribly biased and loaded with bad history.
Not only is it a fun Idea It has already been done
A certain Monk by the name of Thadius,
What the hell is this thread even about?
It's about Japan obviously

Spite I bet.
People are jumping to conclusions (starting with a DM)... This isn't about spite or anger or IG issues at all (not even a little bit). I made a post on the ambiant loot thread (//%22http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19919&page=15%22) and somebody said it was to powerful of an item is all. It was a simple question that I admitted in the third post of this thread that I was wrong about part of it based on my own ignorance of a rule.
Quit trying to make this into something that it's not.
Geesh

Odd question. I would take any party companions to do this quest ofcourse. But if you ask from a powerquesting point of use. Well then sure if he got magic weapon spells like everyone else.
I was asking it from the non-power questing point of view. If you leave off all the IF he had this and IF he had that and say he doesn't have those things and the only cleric (
of 4th level or lower, because of the quest levels) cast his magic weapon spell on the tank fighter, the monk will be of little effect based on my orriginal (WRONG) idea that gloves couldn't be enchanted. I stand corrected and eat crow and all that now knowing gloves can be enchanted.
QuoteThe OP was not a rant or written in anger or spite, dispite what some people may think and post publicly.
i think the wolf quest is fun
Sure I would bring him. Dont see any reason why I wouldt. He would be as useless as a fighter without magic weapon anyway.
FOIG IMO
