Title: Bard Perk
Post by: Damien on April 28, 2010, 06:15:32 PM
Dirge is way too weak compared to Spellsinger. This is because you can easily get neg immunity items and also the feat blind fight to go against the concealment you get. Also the summon is pretty useless with only 10hp.

I'd ask to either make dirge stronger or spellsinger weaker.

Question. If one perk doesn't do the job, why is ruining another the answer? Now, as the DMs haven't published Bardsong perk stats, and you haven't made it clear what level your Bard is, it's not possible to make a fair comparison unless you've played PCs with both to high levels. It would help if we got published stats for the bard songs to stop this sort of "I don't know what the others do but this one sucks" argument, as the last complaint I heard was *spellsinger* is weaksauce.

+3 damage is pretty damn good, especially Negative, which is only blockable by Polarizarion, unlike physical or elemental. The only negative resist item I know of are -1 AC Monk gloves. Other songs add max +2 damage at 8. 20% concealment is *amazing*, since Blind Fight is the only way to counter it, unlike for AC which can be Taunted down or you can AB buff past. And Blind Fight is nowhere near common on this server. I don't know enemies with it and only that a few PCs have taken it. Also, apparently this perk adds some sort of negative immunity too.

Finally the Evil perk is awesome for the fact that it lets you summon up tormented spirits and be all evil and necromantic, without having to take summon spells and a theme to do it.

Egon is right, 20% concealment is like +4 AC to all, even with blind fight, it's like giving your whole party +2 AC or something.

I think the song should summon more spirits tho, just for flavour. But then it might be too strong.

Egon, what are you on about. Seriously. I'm 'ruining' nothing, its super powered compared to dirge so I'm asking it changed.

Also as a lvl 8 bard who took the perk please try to remember what it gives. Magical damage when you attack and also when you take damage which cannot be negated unless you find some dm loot.

Oh and every competent pvper will take blind fight.

zzz.

Powergaming boo. Hiss.

I'm sure there are plenty of inequalities... If you want everything to be optimized, arena servers might be better than efu for that sense of equality.

mate i said either make stronger or spellsinger weaker, why make spellsinger so powerful unless you want most people to end up using it

I was in two minds as to whether to take it on Waldo. I lose the temporary HP, saves and skill bonuses, and gain a better damage type, some AC and a low Spell Resistance. In the end what made my mind up between that, Battlemarch and the non-evil one is the visual effect is FREAKING PIMP. Kudos on that Mort. I'd certainly take the Dirge on a necromantically inclined PC. The only change I'd suggest would be to add a small extra bonus to allied undead.

If you're worried about the mechanics of your Bard Song perk, don't take one.  The original Bard Song still works great.

If, however, you want your Bard Song to be more interesting and more appropriate to your char, then by all means enjoy the fine work Mort put into them for you.
