Title: Tracking Changes
Post by: Drat on July 17, 2010, 10:09:29 PM
Currently the tracking system only allows the tracker to... track. Hostile creatures in the area, that's all well and good but I think it should also be possible to track unhostile creatures, such as PC's, deer and things like that. As it only makes sense to be able to, you should be able to track deer and guys stomping around in boots.

So I believe the tracking system should be altered to allow the tracking of neutral creatures.

Though this would be realistic (as when tracking, as of how the system works now, any result at all throws up the 'watch out'-flag, even if you can't tell what you're dealing with), it might also severely clutter up the amount of information being fed to a tracker, which, in certain areas, can already turn out to be a huge amount.

You actually don't want this at all, you just don't know it.

Could a /c track -neutral option be added to allow tracking neutral NPCS? it would avoid clutter resulting from it tracking them as a matter of course.  I remember a DM quest involving tracking a neutral animal, and asking the DM to hostile it please so I could use Tracking. Also it would be good to hunt deer etc.

I know how you feel about tracking, but you do not want this. If you did this at the ziggurat your info would explode with a 1000 useless things. Maybe it could work like you can only track neutral in wilds?

But anyways, wilders are tough cookies and don't need any buffs

When I suggested this I was only concerned with the wilds, and more aligned with deer and such creatures and other PC's. Its not a 'you don't want this' it's just something that 'should' exist there really isn't a heck of alot out there in the wilderness, 20 tops per area I have ever seen. Add 10 for neutral things and its not a big difference. You shouldn't be able to track anything in civilized area's anyway because there are so many people around.

My eight cents.

Adding a "track neutral" option, rather than a default, would not be problematic with regards to spamming the quest log as you'd have to give /c track that argument. Tracking PCs was available years ago, but was removed due to abuse.  Track checks for all hostiles in the area and gives to varying info on them. It doesn't matter if they actually moved through anywhere and left tracks. The result was that people could sit in the middle of a map, spam "/c track -race human" and know when their target for an ambush had entered. it was PVP Radar.
