Title: Quiting For Awhile
Post by: Seanzie on August 07, 2010, 07:56:10 AM
Not that anybody cares, but im quiting for awhile, I realized that I suck at NWN and EFU:A and im sorry that I've decided to do a lot of stupid crap and make this experience ruined and bad. I hope that one day I can get good and not bother people. So.. See-ya.

Yeah there's a thread for this in off topic.

It's unfortunate that you feel that way, but it's also true that you can't get better without trying. A little break can do good to calm down though.

You try harder than most people. Hope you come back.

If you want to get better mechanically, there's no better place then doing so at a server such as Dungeon Eternal X (If you can find a faction to join up with. Build-wise it really stepped up my game.) aka DeX.

However, if you want to get more involved in plots, become a better roleplayer, or learn how to deliver plots in a more exciting, and therefore more fun manner, there's really no better place then EfU to do so.

At the moment, though, I think you seem to be suffering from a bit of a burnout, so maybe it'd be best to go to a different setting to learn and compare, then realize how much better EfU is. Along with the RP.

Although, RL is way more important.

Being a terrible or good player matters a lot... in Diablo II, here, there is no way to "win" "loose" or anything. If you're frustrated that your chracters are weak and not enjoying the quests, or that you don't survive the DM plots, just build a cleric or barbaian, esle, what matters is that you are having fun.

It's not like i'm a good powerbuilder or roleplayer tbh, i know how that feels...

You really need to get over that issue with "cliques" Cerberus. Seriously. They are just dumbass individuals if they choose to be rude. There's no conspiracy here.

I just hate to see new players quiting with a bad taste in their mouth, (like the OP)...

The problem, if anything, is that EfU is all one big clique of people who've known eachother for 6 years. We've been together so long that we basically hate each other's guts, so we treat everybody like garbage until they either flip out and ragequitt or get with the program.

Yes, it's a problem. Yes, we're basically scum. No, you shouldn't feel any compulsion to stay here if you're not having a good time. Yes, I wish it could change, and we could go back to being a place where everyone is chill. I don't see it happening because I don't think there's anyone with the authority to make changes who actually cares enough to make the effort.

If somebody looks like they're trying to troll you, then answer with "lol ok" and go on with your business. The very most important thing about EfU is being chill, and not taking any of it seriously. That goes for IRC, and it also goes for EfU.

Look at the old forums, and you'll find I used to post 6 page cries about how my characters shouldn't have to die just because they're mentally retarded and do mentally retarded things. (Like charge blind, unbuffed, into entire fortresses of god damn monsters). Point being: I still haven't lived that down, and my problem in believing that was that I wasn't being chill.

Trolling new players is corny.

For the record, I was neither insinuating rudeness or trolling. I just have little time for dramatics. You don't want to play any more? That's fine say your good byes and shout outs in the quitting thread. Make your PMs to the special people and ride off into the sunset.

This thread went places it should not have gone, in large part because it was not being monitored.

Cluckyx was right that this thread is off-topic, though in fairness he could have been less blunt about it. That does not give anyone else right to take it even further. I will also add that, while the opening post gives a few hints, (the proverbial) you are in no position to guess as to the ultimate cause for leaving.

[Edit]
I want to add that Cluckyx was not aware we were going to make him a DM when he wrote the above post.

We all make a few missteps in the beginning. It doesn't mean that trying to improve will not be appreciated. Take some time off, read a book, see a movie and if you feel like, come back to us.

There is much that can be said about others who have been here longer. To them I suggest re-reading forum guidelines and rethinking what they post, for some of this that is now gone was above the line. This also includes other sections of the forum.

Yeah I'm going to just straighten stuff out here.

I have nothing against Seanzie personally. This wasn't a "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" thing. I'd love to see him back, and lets be honest, we've all had those moments when we want to throw our toys out and go "I'M LEAVING 4EVER"  >:c", but I maintain that the mature thing to do is to take a few breaths and just wait. You almost always feel better within half an hour. I've seen too many posts where people DO feel better afterwards, but they've made such a big thing out of leaving, and burned so many bridges, they can never come back.

I suppose that's what I have to say in a less callous and blunt manner.

[dm] callous and blunt

More seriously, I think that Seanzie has been doing a great job of getting involved in things as a new player. Far more then I did, with series of remade kobolds and overactive halflings who were all pretty much the same character and never got above level 5 before I either got FD'd or lost interest.

I also enjoyed your characters Seanzie, and it was a bit surprising to find out you were new. My first characters were much worse in RP, and they sucked. I think you should keep at it, make a concept you enjoy and just have fun with it.

I'd like to add that I wasn't so much insulting anyone in this thread, I was reacting to Seanzie's original post about him having ruined the game etc which sounded to me like the result of the trolling that goes on sometimes.
