Title: More "Good" Loot
Post by: Egon the Monkey on October 19, 2008, 03:15:33 PM
To clarify, this it NOT a complaint that the loot is crap. :P

The trouble is, that there is so much "Only useable by: Evil" loot, necromantic loot, animation devices and it is getting ridiculous. 1/day summon chain, bonus Cleric slot gear, loads and loads of amulets with skill boosts and powerful spells, and that's just the stuff I've seen on quests or for sale recently.
What do Good players get: Chalice of Light. Woo yay. Gonna smite me some evil with that. XD

I understand that it's fun to make creepy loot that adds a flavour of "bad news" to QAs, but it's hardly a great stretch to assume that the odd divine champion or crusading good guy has fallen victim to some of these tombs and would have carried such useful goodly relics. Or that raiding tribes of monsters would have pillaged a temple, guard house or something that belonged to a Good Netherese faction.

It's making me thing "hey I should make an evil guy for the loot!" which is kind of a bad reason to go for a concept.

The Price of being good is that there aren't as many all powerful things you get.

It's a price, you have to pay.

Its not a price you have to pay. There just isn't anything geared toward the good guys really. Seems its more an oversight, plus it'd be neat to have the evil parties run off to destroy the good stuff.

Why should there be a price of being Good or Neutral any more than Evil? There will be as many powerful good smiths forging gear, good priests blessing it and so on. As it is, there is a real imbalance i the loot. It's very flavourful for the quests, but very useless to a good deal of the server.

Maybe it's deliberate in order to promote anarchy and chaos!!1! <_> . Or maybe it's just that the quests dont involve raiding mount celestia and our drops have been established on the history of the island or theme-based.

As more quests get implemented, I'm sure the variety of things for specific classes, races, alignment, etc. will increase.

Yeah, that I can understand, but there's plenty of room to fit Good and Neutral loot in there as "stolen" kit.  Currently the only alignment-based new EFU:A loot I see is all, without exception, Evil.

Perhaps this ‘good’ loot can be scripted <(?) to show up in chests (etc) only as the evil that was slain getting there wouldn’t have it on them, but as was stated might have some from goodly types they killed in the past.

One thing I'd like to see is enchanted items that are more representative of what people actually use.

For example - I've seen numerous magical or enhanced scythes, and almost never see longswords.  Unless theUnderdark AND the island of Ymph have numerous scythe-wielding Nightriser captains, I don't get it.

This was also true of the server before The Ascent.  Enchanted longswords and greatswords were difficult to find. Most possessed by PCs were DM loot.

I know I've seen more enchanted exotic weapons such as whips, scythes, kukris, double axes, and dire maces - than what should be more common weapons such as maces, shortswords, spears, longswords, and greatswords.

Is this intentional to encourage PCs using a greater variety of weapons?

Yes, Gwydion.

I was joking about the Price.

but yes, I want a quest where you kill Good Aligned Outsiders.

Yes, lets raid Arvandor as part of a scripted quest.

Get out of the box and use an interesting weapon.  I assure the DMs smile upon it.

What is the UMD policy on the alignment restriction things again?
Might be worth going 16+ charisma with skill focus and rogue/bard levels if you really don't wanna go evil..

I personally think it's a pretty interesting balance.

Sure the evil get more loots. But they also have the social stigma that goes with it. You go into the Ziggurat wearing bright green ghoul chain. Shit WIll go down.

There's no denying that the good could use some love, but it's not as bad as people are saying.

Yup, the Ghoul CHain does come with a free Druidic and Paladin Bullseye.
However, the powerful equippables and trinkets don't.

UMD policy is "Would it be IC for your char to use this?" Because a Good bard isn't going to wear an Evil god's talisman, and a Neutral one might not either. I mean, Grasp of the Ghoul has no restrictions, but my TN Necromancer isn't actually going to use them because he finds them particularly revolting. He has a personal dislike of Undead and isn't going to wear their hands.

Hah well there used to be a quest where you would be fighting some probably more good aligned folks who could have dropped things like that (I didn't do it that often and actually forgot), but then evil fighting evil is always easier justify-able than good fighting other good..
Yeeeah I can see the problem there.

The ambient loot suggestion thread could always use some more love. Think of it like an ongoing contest to change the server! If I ever get to a place where I have more time for EfU:A (hopefully soon!), I plan on spamming that thread with some ideas I've had kicking around.

Remember, if you don't like what's here, you can always suggest something new!
