Title: Learnable bard songs:
Post by: Kinslayer988 on September 22, 2010, 02:43:13 PM
This may seem like an overpowered idea since the bard has gained so many new boosts but a cool ability they could have is to actually learn different types of bard songs.

How it would work is you can find different instruments or songs around the server and would have a thing scripted so that it would be able to change your bard song (and I know it can happen in a way similar to perks).

For example: All bards start with a special harp giving bard song.

You are a nature pc and you find a pair of bongos giving hymn of the ymphian jungle. You could also find a magic flute made of a special wood giving something like your curse song will make an entangle attempt on hostile creatures.

You could also change between certain types of bard song with the scripted instruments or a special chat in craft menu. A list of bard songs.

This may sound overpowering but this would be awesome for bard players and make it look like they are searching for new songs and music.

Strangely enough, we discussed a similar system a while back but nothing ever happened with it.

This basically gives bards an extra perk. Not very fair, if you ask me.

The way in which Howland envisaged it was that it was more akin to a piece of loot, and that songs could be stolen from other bards.

I think this is a great idea, but I don't think the songs should be stackable; or only one song able to be up at a time.

So therefor, the bard can sing a different song depending on the situation.

Sounds like the summoning regents mages use, but one to change a trait/traits of the song.

The way I thought of it was that you could have all the different kinds of songs in your craft menu. Also I think that there could possibly be special requirements for example:

Certain songs can only be used in city areas, some can be Good or Evil only and lastly some could only be used in nature areas.

I see what your saying, but; how would they go about earning these perks/songs?

I was thinking that u could find enchanted instruments or songs with 1x special use. Each instrument and song would have requirements and on the desc. Show what changes it does to your bard/curse song.

What the 1 use would do is it would add this song type to your songbook (available through craft menu) and permanantly keep it in your book. This way you could keep what kind of songs you have, not have bards mugging bards for song tools and would give DMs to give special dm bard songs for bard pcs they enjoy.

Although this idea is shakey I want to hear what ideas other players and dms have to make this possibly happen.

With the instruments it would likely remove bard perks and act as minor bonuses to your bard.

I'd suggest that none or of these if used be stuff that the default and  perks cover already. More options for Curse Song would be cool though as would more situational buff songs for example:

Inspiring Chorus.
All allies in radius gain +2 Charisma, +2 Concentration and +2 Fear Saves.

Devious Ditty
All allies in radius gain +1 Open Lock, Set Trap and Disable Trap, +2 Search, Spot and Listen, and +2 saves vs Traps.

Meditative Melody

All allies gain +2 Intelligence, +2 Lore.

I think that they might also work as Player Tools so you could swap them around more easily.

Maybe a "Select Song" player tool, which is used to target inventory items (Music sheets or w/e), which changes your Song temporarily, or until changed or some such a thing.

However it is implemented, this is a sweet idea.

Love this idea.
