What am I looking at? That the tileset in the arena looks different to the rest of the area?

Larger sized arena?

You're looking at a larger sized arena. With two entrances to boot.

Question: is it traversable?

He just discovered that you can copy and paste individual group tiles in the toolset. Sometimes it will cause an "index out of bounds" error in the toolset, in which case you have to wipe everything, start over, and try pasting the tiles in a different order, but other than that it's stable.

You can make some amazing things with the Desert tileset Oasis group with this little trick.

I could imagine having to wipe everything would be a pretty awful thing for EFU area builders, given the huge amount of detail they put into their work.

It totaly works. I was wondering how the Arelith team managed to put this together but now I've figured it out. What you're looking at gentlemen, is a 1x1 scale model of the arena in Cordor. There's a lot you can do with such a skill. Even make existing ships longer than before. Whereas a merchant ship was 3 tiles, you can name make as long as you want. Keep in mind, though. A lot of buildings do not work with this.

By "wipe everything," I only mean that you have to erase what you're trying to paint and start over. I use this technique in my area building, and I've never had to start a whole new area over again just because I was using it.

Step 1: Fill an area with the center tile of the Desert tileset Oasis group.
Step 2: ???
