Title: Lower Half-Plate drop rate
Post by: Listen in Silence on October 28, 2008, 09:27:56 AM
Recently the market for half-plates, and armour in general, has been utterly flooded by the massive amounts of quest drops. I'd suggest lowering the drop rate for the various pieces of armour a bit, since half and full plate was, to my knowledge, intended to be rare, but recently everyone seems to be able to find a set for about three hundred.

I disagree, I'd suggest leaving it.

I have played a new PC (until he died) for while and didn't find this easy to get at all. I think halfplate is just about right as it matches the +1 Chainmail that are around and the 4/4 armour that high dex characters can make very useful.

I would suggest leaving full plate rare as that is better than any other armour.

I think it's fine as is.  Plenty of people have access to half-plate already, and it hasn't ruined anything.

7 AC half-plate seems to elude the characters of mine that would use them so far.

I would say lower it as well. With half-plates, chars with low dex can have an armor bonus of 8 while those classes that favor medium armors and medium or high dex score (barbarians, rangers) can only have an armor bonus of 7 max. Why should it be so?

Those classes make up for their lower AC with better HP and useful class skills. I think it should be left as it is. I've played a number of characters on the server, with only one managing to score themselves some half-plate.

Lower it because the other classes have 1 less AC! Barbarians get rage and make them have more AB over all of the other classes, let's just lower the AB of barbarians raging!  Hey rogues can sneak attack for a lot and all the non-app classes don't so let's reduce their damage while sneak attacking!  Druids and rangers can tame wild beasts and animals, why should it be so?

Anyway, I consider the occurrence due to luck and the fact there are a lot of current PCs not preferring heavy armor.

I personally find half-plate boring and not that great.  Give me nice chain any day.  As far as I care, leave it be.

Aye. Barbarians and Rangers can use this sweet 6/2 Armor ftw. Same AC as them Fighter-kids get with thar half-plate.

Leave as it 'tis.

The other day I was trying to sell a relatively good set of half-plate in the market, and there was no less than three people trying to sell a set of it within 20 feet of me.

Seems a bit excessive to me!

Light/Medium armors should be much more common than heavy armors? Why? Because think to yourself, how many times have you wanted to carry around heavy armor for more than a little while? Not very often. Heavy armor is so common lately it seems more likely to get thrown into a garbage pile than it is to be sold (I simply threw away two sets of heavy armor myself).

Also, to maximize light/medium armor you actually have to invest stats into someplace else. Something that should be reflected in the price, weight and rarity of the armor.

It's perfectly feasible to find one or more heavy armors while raiding a warparty of orcs.

I've only ever seen one set of half-plate drop on a scripted quest. They seem incredibly rare. Are you sure you're not referring to splint?

I've personally seen 2 sets of half plate drop on a quest simultaneously, multiple times.

I haven't done a lot of the higher tier quests, but I can think of at least one quest where I've seen a set of half-plate drop almost every time.

And yes, I mean half-plate.

Maybe the ligher armor varieties just need to drop more. Can't say I've seen a lot of worthwhile light/medium armors except one or two notable exceptions.

I agree ! Very easy to find a half-plate, i saw a couple of set in a garbage pile today. I imagine a new PC, just spawning  on the top of the Ziggurat and find a half-plate right at his character creation. Where is the challenge? Some quest just give a half-plate each time. An heavy armor should be expensive, and to be expensive, rare.

I fail to see why there is any contention over armor dropping that should be a basic staple of any heavy warrior's equipment. It's not any fun to run around as a heavy armor warrior-fighter, paladin, cleric, or whatever-in a rusty chain shirt forever. A ton of potent magical gear dropping is certainly out-of-line with the server's loot theme, but basic equipment-mundane arms and armor of all types-should be fairly readily available. If it's not, it just benefits those builds who stack up their dexterity and tumble and leaves fighters with irritating equipment woes.

It's the opposite actually. Heavy armor classes are the ones with most hp.

- Yes!!
- Barbs have their ac decreased while raging!!
- No, cause they already suck at fighting!!
- Because the world is unjust.
