Something I've been working up as an RP concept lately is the idea of dead-drops and messages that are encoded in some way, rather than PMed to the person in question. There's plenty of automatic ciphering tools on the Internet if you google stuff like Caesar or Pig Pen cipers, and it's perfectly possible to encode with multiple ones. I think it lies nicely between easily metagamable Correspondence posts and totally uninterceptable PMs in making your spying a challenge to eavesdrop on through various means.
Have fun, and remember: You're not paranoid if everyone really is out to get you!

Though I can imagine using cipher decryption software is easy for anyone (and a whole lot more metagamey than just doing it yourself), even without it, cracking them is pretty easy!
There are a lot of simple ways to make these a lot harder to break, and they don't even have to include new ways to encrypt them.
Yup. It's more flavour than impossibility for now. Starting simple :D.
I think it's wonderful, and is really adding a depth of flavour to recent events.
I think that level of "encryption" is fine and adds some flavour. Anything stronger, and you may as well use PMs. :P
I think it's more appropriate (and I would feel, more fun) to create these ciphers yourself. Relying on outside sources for it... I dunno. Seems cheap to me.
That aside, sure, puzzles are fun and can add an interesting element to the game. The recent use of a gobbledygook code added another layer of interesting-ness (that a word? whatever.) to the group that used it.
Use PMS tbh trusting people to not metagame was a mistake made by Caddies when he was doing Craddock.

If you join the Armada, there's a huge list of tricks and tips for using dead drops and Codes, from when I had a Specialist who was undercover.
Just sayin'. <_<
Join factions, learn cool shit! :D
Caddies was -doing- Craddock??
In any case I like it.
