Title: Jump doesn't seem to work
Post by: Theraphosa_blondi on January 28, 2011, 02:56:11 AM
My character casted jump so that I could emote a cool cat like leap up the debris mountain leading into the back of the Gobsquat.

It ended up being a little embarrassing because jump didn't seem to give that +10 tumble bonus it was supposed to give.

You need to invest 1 point in tumble to benefit from the bonus.

Actually, a while back I tried to do the same thing (cast Jump and climb up the roof tops near the shrieking lady) with my Ranger, who has a point in Tumble. Still didn't give me any bonus. The spell seems to be broken, I guess it's just not used very much, so this hasn't been widely documented yet.

It's definitely worked in all of the cases that I've observed where a point of tumble is first invested. Yours must be a particular case. Can you tell me more about your circumstances?

Not much more to them than what I said; I had an actual point invested in tumble (one), plus my dexterity bonus (+2), and maybe some minor item boost, as well. I cast Jump, then a few seconds later attempted the tumble check near the shrieking lady in the area between the Ziggurat and the Gobsquat to climb up on the rooftops, but did not get the bonus to my roll and failed the check.

This was with the PC Graham Greyfell, Ranger, Shaundakul as his deity. It was a long time ago now, so the details are getting a bit fuzzy. I can try it again for you the next time I'm IG!

So the spell is only useful to people who have at least one point of tumble invested?

Upon further reflection, this would only be an issue with AOO-avoidance, as the script which handles tumbling across obstacles does not take training into account. So it should be useful irrespective of whether you have invested a point, but less so for people who have not.

i think i experienced a problem with jump when i cast it on myself through the circular menu instead of a quickslot.

I just tested it on two occasions today; Both times cast from the Radial menu. One was at the spot near the Shrieking Lady, one was the climb up to Gobsquat from outside the city. Both times the spell worked just fine, so I guess it must have been an old error/freak incident causing my fail earlier.
