Someone make it go, please.
Phalanx lines?
Crusader Footmen?
Hoplites?
Shaka Zulu?
Enough said...
2handed shuriken
If this is possible, I would love to see it. Though, I'm not sure it is. Or if it is, its not desirable. :(
Legionaries [Winks to Praxes]
Praxes was a hoplite! But yes, great idea. I think the various advantages would overrule the loss of the 1.5 STR mod, personally.
I am 100% in favor of spears being made one handed.
It would look cool, but no. Spear is the best simple weapon!
I really wish weapons could be scripted to auto two hands if the offhand is empty tbh. :( A lot of weapons would be so much cooler. And as much as I like the shield spear combo, I'd rather have at least one simple weapon with the 1.5x strength.
A shortspear would rock. So would javelins, but that's a different topic. Would be really cool I think to have shortspear as an available weapon type.
Im generally against anything that will require HAKs
Obviously it wouldn't be discussed if it required a HAK just to do.
Yes! The ability to duel wield spears, Thats aestheticly pleasing!
Dont think its possible with out haks gents :\
It is not, you need a hak that creates a 1 handed shortspear. You need a hak for custom weapons, and such weapons also can't have weapon focus/specialisation feats work for them.
Changing it would IMO be a bit silly anyway as it would give Simple weapons a 3 lb Battleaxe. Currently it's a pretty good weapon, a lower damage, light two-hander. In fact the only non-Martial 2hander since the Staff got chaged to a double weapon.

It's been asked before.
It's possible, but a bit funky... we'll see.
Implement it for a bit and see how it goes? *Gives the hopeful look, that most people get before a dm crushes their dreams*
I would ask that this not be done, if it makes the impossible to two hand.
Mort will forever be my hero if he does this
Although I am for this idea, I do think that watching the 1H'er animations for this will be lol. But the style is cool.
2h is so much better

Yeah, please don't take spears away from us...
It wont. Chill.
Can we please make double-axe 1h too? Having 2 of those would be sick you know.

Its not even remotely as stylish. 2H is just what bards/clerics take because its the best mechanical weapon for their classes without having to take feats.
Gogo MORT.
Two handed spear is way more stylish
I like spears as more of a no other choice weapon or flavor weapon but I still use them plenty.
If it would be possible to make Shortspears Medium-sized, so they can be two-handed by Halflings and Gnomes it would open up a whole range of tribal Stargazer potentials!
Two handed spears are called halberds, really. Even "Harpoons" are reflected IG as halberds, not spears. Making all spears into one-handed weapons is not a change that cannot be worked around with extreme ease by substituting in "halberds" for your concept. Call it a halberd, a pike, a longspear, a harpoon... whatever you want, it fits the bill. (Pun intended.)
Any word on this? I think it is a very cool idea.
It can be done. We'll see if we want it!
I don't. Druids and sorceres use spears quite often. Removing the 1.5x STR damage on them would weaken such users severely. Furthermore the spear looks to me as the perfect weapon for a wild or barbaric PC, it's a basic, simple weapon by all standarts, and doesn't need any metal.
Maybe we could do that with the tridents instead? That way the simple weapon gets to be used by druids/sorcerers and we can still have our 1-handed "spearish"es.

I disagree, Garem. You're only thinking of chars that would already have Martial Weapons. Making it only one-handed would:
- Take away the opportunity for many classes to use a 'longspear' or in fact any two-handed weapons without buying a feat you can't always afford, as quarterstaves are a double weapon now.
- Prevent non-Small Druids from using any 2 handed weapon, ever, since even if they claim "It is a spear", druids cannot select weapon feats on levelup.

Currently it's a 1d8 x3 crit 2h weapon. A shield with a Club or Dagger doesn't look so good on the base stats, but when you realise how powerful many of the drops are for those (+1d4 isn't that uncommon, there's no need to hope for DM favour), it more than balances out. A 1d8 x3 crit one handed Simple weapon would be far more powerful mechanically, rather than currently where it's the weakest two handed weapon except for Tridents. Everybody would use Spears as a Battleaxe-equivalent weapon that has +1 damage versions or better, unlike now where a good Club or Dagger is a decent choice too.
Changing spears to Medium would only damage variety on the server, while adding nothing that couldn't be accomplished mechanically or stylistically in other ways. Use a Battleaxe or Hammer if you want the stats. Carry a spear, shortsword and shield like Praxes did if you want a "Phalanx" PC. The only real benefit would be Gnome or Halfling Sorcerers using Sorc spears. One way to get around that Stargazers can't use spears to hunt, would be to give them Weapon Proficiency: Martial as a feat along with changing Tridents to Medium if weapons editing is in the works.
If Mort's response of "it won't, chill" was to Ebok being worried that it would stop you using them as 2 handers, then ignore the above concerns about it impeding 2 handed weapon use. It wasn't clear. A change that simply makes Spears useable as 2handed weapons for small PCs or creates, for example a 1d4 x3 crit Shortspear class of weapon would be amazing. One that makes them Medium weapons would be likely more harm than good.
