Was talking to a friend the other day, and they asked a simple question, but one that I had to stop and truly think about. After some thought, I came up with my answer and wondered what you all would say, so here it is.
"If you could name only 1 thing in all your time here, what is the one moment, or thing, or event, that meant the most?"
I'm asking this to you the player, not a character, but to you, what one thing, event, what ever meant the most to you.
Mine was simple, after I thought about it. Though there have been some really excellent 'things' here, I can say that the one thing that meant most to me the player, was a simple tell from a DM. That tell let me know that I was doing a good job at portraying my character. A tell, not loot, not an event, not XP or coin. A simple tell that took perhaps 3 seconds of the DM's time.
So now.. what meant the most to you?
This thread.
Not really 1 moment, but the end times of Sanctuary back in EfU meant the most to me.
It was a wild ride, and an emotional gut punch once it all registered.
The end of EfU:A was great and all, but it still doesn't top that.
Ditto.
I was playing Rodon Brinson back in the Watch, trying to judge whether this DrD recruit was good for the faction. He spoke firmly of his intention of strengthening the bond between the Spellguard and the Watch, something Brinson thought was misled due to his own experiences. To test the recruit, he sent him on the task to write a report about the Watch/Spellguard cooperation and learn for himself what sort of stuff he was going into. Sten, which was DrD's character, was told not to bother the Spellguard while he performed this task. He thought it meant spying upon the Spellguard and alerted their officers, who in turn alerted the Watch. After five-six months of active service to the faction and with the recent attainment of the rank of corporal, I felt incredibly wrecked when Brinson was not believed and furthermore demoted, then made to write a letter of apology to the Spellguard.
Suffice to say, it was not a good time for me and I felt that nothing I did truly mattered. Half-heartedly and with feelings of leaving the server I was joining Lieutenant Agrael Lothor's assignment the day after and as Lothor was speaking with a NPC Private, the Private looked behind Lothor, saw me, left the conversation to go and ask how I was doing.
Nothing comes close to that moment.
Mines the same, I've had maybe four tells during my time on EFU. Where a DM has told me they have been impressed with my character.
XP,loot, are nice. But just getting that pat on the back is an incredible feeling.
It was a short discussion I had with Howland back when I played Philip Meet, in the Underdark, about how he could end up with purple crystals embedded in his skin. It was at this moment I felt anything was possible!
Killing Bhast, blowing up the Stew Shoppe, Escaping from the Underdark. Close to fifteen solid hours of non-stop madness.
Absolutely fantastic, nothing else has come close. DM_Tom is the MAN.
The first time I logged into EfU, I noticed a painting on the wall of the tavern and asked about it. A quest then began to find the person who made that painting, and we discovered them trapped in a magic painting. We then held an exorcism ritual to free them, while fighting off ghosts in their abandoned house.
Sold.
Also later on, when either metropakt or ExileStrife (I forget exactly who) PMed me and said my character was quite "adroit." I had to look it up, but I smiled when I did.
Screenshot threads. Seeing everyone just share their memories and reminisce about how their characters interacted with one another and saying how much fun it was playing together. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I managed to join the server in a time of epicness, lucky me! Of all the epic things I saw, I would have to say that the fall of Nebbezdos meant the most, especially the frantic runs escorting people to and from the temple of Jergal. It was an amazing experience, I am honestly not sure if it could ever be topped. Even typing this sentence, thinking about it, puts a big, happy grin on my face :D
Participating in a ritual that summoned the spirit of an evil god in order to animate the corpse of a paladin PC. Win.
One of many epic moments.

Oh my. Yes. Diz-e. That was so awesome.
Escaping the Underdark with my first character (Jacob) and pissing people off with my third (Criler). There were many long hours of fun involved!

Funny story about that.
It's been a wild ride for me. The first night of DM'ing, despite never having logged in the dm client before, and running around to possess NPCs and see the world come alive with players was when I really got hooked...
The end of EFU:A was more satisfying for me personally than the end of EFU.
RP with other players... usually.
I enjoy it when PC's come together and RP, working together. The end of EfU and EfU:A really embodied this; in those times conflict was minimal but there, everyone focusing on survival.
It's being with other players who enjoy RP as much as you do that makes EfU fun.
As for particular moments;
- First character; Mithrilsoul smackdown was great fun
- House Montezzi; I wanted to cremate them all and even felt the players were elitist/cheap at time to time (mainly those who thought it fine to gank people mid-quest), but they really showed the epitome of player action.
- The Rebellion in Sanctuary; I only saw some parts and I always was playing it as a level 4 (5 if I was lucky), but I enjoyed it despite that mechanical disadvantage.
- Leading from that, the drama of The Way and getting to it.
- Red Elient. It was one of those times where the server really came together, and it was epic.
- The Dwarves; every time I've interacted with dwarves it's always been fun. Never had them as real enemies, but even character not interested in them, I always enjoyed dwarves that really embodied dwarven virtues besides 'kin kin ale kin'.
- The Order. I never have been a fan of religious zealots, but the Order really puts the idea in a fairly realistic light; not too common in fiction.
- EfU:A's end. I agree with Howland, it was more statisfying. I particularly enjoyed the new tone once the war with H'bala came to be.
Then end of Escape from Underdark was definately a conclusion to the story of sanctuary as not much more can occur.
But with the end of EFU:A, there were so many loose ends and the like.

Loose ends?
Quote from: Howland;250350Funny story about that.
Do tell.
Without a doubt it would be the opportunity to watch characters develop and grow over time. Seeing PCs start from humble beginnings to grow into powerful, important, and changed individuals is immensely interesting. That this development occurs regularly, with little stagnancy in PCs, is one of the most remarkable aspects of EFU:A/M.
I think this qualifies as a "thing". :)
I meant by loose ends that there will still be mysteries to solve in EFU:M.
What the mist is, the crown, etc.
Being told that I was "rocking out" With Roarin back in the Underdark by a score of DMs, at a time when I felt I had little else to give to the server.
I think it says a lot that I can't think of any specific moments.
My favorite moment was on my character Bruce Almshaven "Prince of Novalonia" after having been captured by a Stygian and challenging the character to trial-by-combat on the top of the Ziggurat.
We both used all of our potions, supplies and items but in the end I had my first victory in PvP ever and it was a duel to the death against a member of the Stygian Armada on the top of the Ziggurat.
It might also have been the time NuclearCatastrophy said he liked my character. I nearly pissed myself.
Those were some cool beans.
The end of EfU. One of the best, most atmospheric times to be around, not just because of the event itself but because of the scores of amazing PCs on both sides. The most alive I've ever seen EfU, without a doubt.
In order of occurrence:
- Fighting against Rus with the Stygians as Haroth.
- End of EfU:A
- Mort telling me that the Twin-Born were actually kinda cool.
But, really, the whole of EfU that I've been a part of has been a great experience in general.
My favorite thing about EFU and it's predecessors isn't dealing with specific PCs, loot, quests, etc.. and is more about a sense of community. I've always enjoyed being able to interact with players on various levels. Whether it was just being part of awesome RP, affording others a chance to get involved (or being afforded a chance to be involved), or merely seeing that what I was attempting to do was/is appreciated. If EFU was a single player game, it would be horribly boring. It's the people that make the experience what it is. Afford each other a chance to go forth and be awesome.

Some of the details are hazy for me, but essentially it was something IC'ly planted by a chaotic Seeker PC played, I believe, by Panama Lane with the hope that such would re-inspire people to look for the surface.
As for the actual fate of Frederick Bresley....
Well.
:-)
Ascend!
My favorite moments...
1) RwG's Camarilla
2) El Gulgotha on my Stygian, even if I did die.
3) These days, the alchemy/herbalism and even cooking systems have me addicted.
Brother Jones' declaration outside the Pissing Crone. The finest manifesto that EFU has ever seen, courtesy of Calculor.

That was an amazing PC. You probably have no idea how long a shadow you cast with that character.
Helping release h'bala, hands down my most meaningful moment.
My moments playing Kyle Briar, tiefling cleric of Kelemvor, and forming the brother like relationship with Melrick of the Toboerski House. We developed such a close bond that it was literally heart breaking for both Meldread and me when Melrick was convinced he must convert Kyle or kill him.
In a dark and smoke filled cave Kyle denied his brother and cursed him with madness and death. Melrick unable to bare the weight of his brother Kyle's death had the devil or demon he worshipped charr the heart of Kyle Briar and bound his soul to it. Melrick was able to summon the shadow of Kyle and torment him daily with undeath (which DMs would regularly possess for Meldread).
What was even more beautiful that Kyle's death was the pivotal moment Melrick decended into madness and barred himself in the Toboerski estate and do some really fantastic and amazing evil shit. I was happy to push that plot along.
After a bit of thinking, two particular events stand out from the crowd of awesome that has been my EfU journey...
The first was a while after returning to the server after an absence of roughly five years during late EfU:A; I had just begun to set things into motion with Greyfell and his archaeological endeavours, and wasn't at all sure if I was doing stuff right or if I was just flailing in the metaphorical dark after such a long absence. Right then Hyrsicator Faussad, possessed by Talir, made a sending asking to meet Greyfell in the Mythallar chamber. Once there, Faussad asked Greyfell to tell him about one of his expeditions, and then praised him of his work. It felt so awesome to be given such a personal pat on the back by one of the great NPCs of the server, through one of the awesome DMs on the server; I walked around with a smile for days afterwards, and whenever I feel like I'm struggling here, I just think back to that moment and feel encouraged.
The second was back in the Underdark, waaay back. I was playing Humphrey, the goblin. What nobody knew about Humphrey was that he was the manservant to one of the slime cultist Drow that wcsherry had pulled together; Basically a group that terrorized the server for a long time.
This particular incident began when Humphrey's master was bothered by a certain Mr. Worn's Olde Stew Shoppe in lower Sanctuary. He thus gave Humphrey some rather potent poison, and asked him to go pour it into the stew cauldron. So, Humphrey snuck up from the sewers, stealthed over to the Stew Shop, snuck into the door, and approached the cauldron. Just as he was about to pour the poison into the cauldron, a voice rang out with something along the lines of "What the hell are you doing here, goblin?". It was Worn himself that had spotted Humphrey. I panicked totally, thinking for sure now I was going to be given a one-way ticket to goblin heaven. After a few seconds of desperate thinking, all I could come up with was the rather lame "Is just looking for job! Please don't hurt Humphrey!" in what I hoped to be a sign of frightened, puppy-eyed innocence. Imagine my surprise when instead of the butt-whopping I expected, Worn just went "Huh? Right, I suppose you can do the dishes." and threw me a towel. What followed was a most awesome double-life where I on one hand was the servant of a crazy Slime cultist, and on the other a dish boy at the local Stew shack. Eventually, I even ditched the slime crew for Worn and his amazing group, and had one of the most amazing times ever. Though it still took me weeks to dare confess about the slime association, even OOCly, heh. Major props to DangerousDan for that PC and place, seriously awesome stuff!
From a DM perspective: there were plenty of watershed moments for me, but the culmination of the Sewer Drow metaplot, and the flooding of Traensyr that ensued was one of my favorite quests to run. A lot of really intense fueding went on between the faction that few people got to see (sadly), including a very wild duel between its two most prominent cultist for the amusement of a very powerful lich.
As a player...
It's hard to say. The ultra competitive, secretive nature of the Spellguard was pretty excellent, even if my PC did end up as a failure.
I enjoyed any moment were things were looking grim and everyone had to fight for their lives.
While I was playing Jubari, on a DM quest I was given the chance to be a hero, but perma in the process. It was probably the most epic thing I have done with a char on efu, efuA, or efuM. JUbari, being Jubari, of course did it, and died. Bar none, the best ending I have ever had of a character, and to date, my most satisfying experience.
The other would be simply taking part in the end of EFUA on Leon Bross..that whole plot, and living thru it, will always be a top experience for me, in the bigger picture that make's up our server. It defined EPIC.
I've only seen the tiniest fraction of EfU, but --
When Sicily was beaten to a pulp and captured by the Order, and put on trial before de Villiers and Blackhearth. She was a pathetic, sniveling, sobbing wreck throughout the ordeal - partly an act, partly the truth - and ultimately somehow managed to avoid the pyre. In the end, her flesh was branded with hot irons.
I truly had no idea whether she would live or die, whether they would believe her or not, and nor did she.
Everything about that scene was fantastic: the suspense, the feeling of being on death row, the ambience of the area itself, the creepiness of the Order and of Agravain, the beautiful, realistic and human RP by the Ordersmen present and the subtle differences and dynamics between them, the length and seriousness of it, the effort and skill of the DMs, and just the concept of a 16-year-old girl facing the prospect of being burned alive for her crimes.
That scene made me in love with EfU. (And even now I would like to take the opportunity to thank the players and DMs involved in that occasion.)
EfU is at its best when it's at its most serious, mature and dark, and when grave and permanent consequences, like death and mutilation hang in the balance.
More maturity! More darkness!

You have no idea how that sacrifice is still playing out!
Any moment where common sense urges you to walk the short path to safety but roleplay dictates that you jump into the abyss with death as a likely result -- and you choose the latter. For me, these include:
Solace pleading for death by execution rather than enslavement.
Karrin Connell sticking around with the dwarven faction in its last stand against the mad beholder, dying while inserting a wand of lightning into the beholder's mouth and setting it off.
Reese informing Emma Snow and de Villiers that she had not been aware that the creed of the Three and the One mandated genocide.
Camille de Ferbourg charging alongside Aishê Nafrémetit against the Rubies that had just betrayed Trenada. (I had really not expected to survive that one.)
Camille again, during nearly the entirety of the Last Days of the Dominion and the battles against H'bala's forces. Refusing to quit no matter how hopeless it looked, and it looked plenty hopeless near the end. >.>
Apart from the above, certain people were beyond wonderful to roleplay with no matter which character I played at the time. Elera. Ghost and Izzy. Bartorius Baldomar, Graegor Griffinlord and Brok'tor Kildare. Frog and Apudo. Micheal Tommas, of course. Aishê, who was a friend of Reese and became more than a sister for Camille. Lazaric Monteblanc, that magnificent bastard. Imnan, who became synonymous with the death Karrin feared and coveted. Bartemis Vrintak, who became Solace's hated and despised nemesis without them ever meeting. Anotropos Legenis, who irritated Solace beyond endurance and made Karrin try to be better than she knew she was. A certain very irritating priestess of Umberlee who drove Camille to distraction and beyond at times. And last but not least, an elven priestess of Mystra whose name consisted solely of vowels and apostrophes -- you know who you are.
QuoteKarrin Connell sticking around with the dwarven faction in its last stand against the mad beholder, dying while inserting a wand of lightning into the beholder's mouth and setting it off.
Halflings are great at suiciding vs Beholders. Andean did the same thing, with an item with Ball Lightning on it, getting killed but killing the Beholder that was off giving the Evil Eye to his team. BEST DEATH EVER! :)
Hin with lightning items ftw!

Long throughout EFU in its various incarnations I have been content to observe and really watch other's stories unfold. There was a moment in Kingman's Inn during EFU:A that has stood out to me above most others.
I was playing Martyn Greywood, and the members of House Greywood had assembled during some event. Just seeing our group together working towards a common goal gave me a feeling that we were helping to shape events within the server, however small they might be. I've only been part of three DM factions (that I can recall) and perhaps a handful of Player factions, so the feeling of belonging to something larger wasn't a feeling I was really accustomed to.
It was that moment that I really got to experience the group narrative, and come to a better understanding of the possibilities that EFU has to offer.
WAAAAAAYYYYY too many to count though one or two come to mind.
Reonie Tibble back in the underdark, my LG monk, giving up the body of a dead companion to *i cant remember what evil devil the dm was possessing* in exchange for 500 gold that would go towards her idea of building a floating Monastary for monks to train. She lost her way and the DM changed her to chaotic, which ment she was screwed as far as leveling further as a monk. the falling out from her companions and the death of a couple of plot pc's ment her plans never got off the ground but the fact that i as a player never considered that she could lose her way like that made me realise that everything in efu can have concequences that you may not see coming.
having a fresh evil halfling rogue go on a DM quest back to do clowns (during EFU:M) with a group of people only to die against bobo and realising that no matter how well i played the halfling, he could never be as evil as damn bobo. getting a tell from the dm that my body was clear to return, only for me to reply, no its ok i think i will perma this one. Who ever Dm'ed that, THANK YOU and sorry lol
The entirety of playing Skub, dispite being useless mechanically the RP factor was great and i loved his death, trying to break into the stygians to break free the rest of the Legion but getting pumped by everyone that was outside.
Playing the huntress for the umbaktu tribe and the rp that was had with everyone with the tribe and in the tribe itself.
The fun that i had playing Okan' kla my riser monk, a massive shame that RL got in the way of running that to completion, i was enjoying roping in the necromancer to do my bidding, it was a huge shame that i couldnt run my plot to completion dispite being slightly downtrodden by some of the other riser characters, he had a funny outlook on unlife and it would have been great to have had the chance to get into more conflict with other players.
But i will definately agree the pat on the back from a DM for the way your character is portrayed is a fantastic feeling
I just now thought of my most memorable moment. It was when I had died fighting Shevorth for the second time, with a second character. About 30 minutes after I fugued, there was a HUGE rumble and a ghostly Shevorth appeared infront of us. His remark was something along the lines of "Oh, nuts." and then flew off into the astral sea.
SHERRY! Yes that duel was great. :)
Releasing H'bala was probably my second favorite moment ever then begging for mercy so great.
Hands down my most memorable moment was my very first PC ever on EFU. I played this monk of Shar who aspired to be in the Order of the Darkmoon Monks. After alot of luck and manipulation of PCs I got the chance to meet the Darkmoon Master, played by NC, or should I say he found me! He then asked me a question I had to answer and if not I would die, then he was counting down for my answer. I swear I've never been more scared in my life for a PC, haha. I couldn't type fast enough then I had typos oh man I wont ever forget that.
I'd say I have two, I think the most fun I've had was playing on team elf last year with my PC Arya Tawariell. Great group of very supportive players, my first intro to a nature type character and the incredible wealth of mystery that is possible outside of civilization.
My other was playing a priest of Lathander, Duglas Tvar, his interactions with one of his faithful, a member of the guard, was probably the most in character I have ever been while RP'ing.
Both were on EFU:A.
There are many moments:
- The moment I logged in with my first PC to test the server out IG, and I couldn't figure out if I was meeting players, NPCs, or DMS -total immersion in the setting drew me back again and again. Still does.
- The welcome and support from players and DMs.
- A player-made map given to my first PC by the elven ranger, Sorell Greyn, that took me 18 months to finally explore IG. There were parts of it that I never found.
- The absolute nerve racking hours spent exploring the Sand Caverns in the Underdark as a Society Ordinant.
- The Canon and Non-Canon flavours of the server that allow for incredible creativity.
- The seemingly limitless plots and player/DM created histories.
- The forgiveness by DMs and players for making a seriously stupid mistake. (releasing our quest group from a cage using my Light Archon familiar that "grew metaphysical arms and pulled the release chain" :P ) - Thanks to the DM who politely showed me why it was epicly dumb! ;)
- The Temple of Hoar, DM-quest where paladin Geraint Redpath sought redemption, yet was forced by an entity into the dilemma to cut his hand off to save a child. And the child ran off laughing. :( The speeches given by all players had me dumbfounded with admiration. I was tongue-tied.
- A Githzerai prelude involving Society Ordinants.
- Drilacko Kenaut's slide into 'mania'.
- Convincing Councillor Aledrec of Yhaun to steal a thrall detection device and give it to me :)
- Watching the little known Montezzi brothers fight in the Pyrimo arena, and then being witness to them turning the server upside down.
- Meeting the Scholar Aleczumberzeil for a little chat about Negative Energy at the Last Stand; dismissing him IC as curious but unimportant. Being witness to the Scholar's activities and reputation.
- Meeting the Great Druid in the UD a week before the fall of Sanctuary.
- Everything Alkalurops. ;)
- The release of H'bala quest - and it's continuing ramifications.
Watching this as a PC, that Sherry mentioned was cool:
QuoteA lot of really intense fueding went on between the faction that few people
got to see (sadly), including a very wild duel between its two most prominent
cultist for the amusement of a very powerful lich
Otherwise escaping the UD with one of my favourite UD PC's is up there.
Heh my favorite memory was when i found two good friends while playing... My second was when i first logged onto the server and so many players were kind enough to teach me about efu to try and get me ready.
My third was learning the rules the hardway.. by ending up to break every single one not intentionally but it still happened. I was new to RP servers new to Neverwinter what could one expect. I regret how it all ended though more so my ending actions and my last words...
Hate me all you want for this post i am sorry....
And with those words....
-godofpain is out
I would have to say out of all of it, it would be my lovely half-drow bard and Son of Sabuth Nigel ''Smokey'' Tir'ek and the times with the gang. He never actually did much other than sell drugs, hit on everything with breasts (and some things that didn't), talk like a badass and slum around the docks and betray one of his best friends. But the RP between and the time spent was some of the best I could ask for.
The single thing that meant the most to me in all my time of playing EFU is when a DM singled out my seemingly unimportant and possibly uninteresting elf ranger, and made a small quest for me and another similar PC to go on together that was tailored for us in a very neat way.
Either that, or when I first started on the server and my first experience was being taken into the arena to "spar", getting beaten to a blood pulp, robbed, then given a job by the same person. Some people might have gotten really upset, but I thought it was awesome compared to what I had seen before.
Hard for me to choose of the two, both meant a lot to me and likely why I always came back for more after that.
Edit: Actually I can't even narrow it down to just two. The day I got accepted into the Watch, a DM faction, and got to be part of the larger story of EFU, albeit briefly, was maybe one of my proudest moments for a stumbling noob like me =)
I want to read more stories so I'll post one to get keep things rolling.
I played a Stygian Infantryman, Mirana Moore. And despite all the many things I got involved with from the Siege of Castle Blackhearth to everyday law enforcement to investigating criminals the best parts is always the little interactions with other characters.
Magister had an Infantryman Belalcazar at the time who Moore had to get a recommendation from. He gave her the task of protecting RwG's Banite at the time who ended up dying. In a fit of rage, Belalcazar struck Moore but still gave her the recommendation.
A few months later down the line, Belalcazar, Moore, and a few others go off to arrest the Dwarven Thane for treason. We all got our asses kicked but after that Belalcazar writes a letter commending Moore and also apologizing for striking her so many months back.
It was such a warm and fuzzy moment. The best part, however, was when later on Moore leans in close to Belalcazar to whisper her thanks to him. He shrinks away timidly, something I'd never thought I'd see Belalcazar do. I laughed my ass off when I found out later on from Mag that he was expecting more than just that whisper of thanks.
Quote from: Porkolt;250383I think it says a lot that I can't think of any specific moments.
After carefully considering the matter, I decided on the following moment:
My PC Francis Offbit gets involved in some strange Targan ritual or something going on in the Warden's arena. Because he was being stupid, he got set up with something doing damage/round (coupled with a red glow), and tried to figure out a way to get rid of it. In plain sight of a dozen PCs he pulled up a beggar boy and threw it into the pit to be devoured by the spirits present there, causing a bunch of undead creatures to burst forth from the arena which proceeded to kick everyone's asses.
Though pretty much immediately getting downed by an ILM (I think it was VP), Offbit managed to almost weasel his way towards the Docks before the fighting ended and everyone gathered to gloat over his bleeding body in the square.
Having invested quite a few ranks in bluff, he then proceeded to tell some crappy story about how he was posessed by the spirits and they forced him to throw the kid into the pit. The DM present had everyone make wisdom rolls, and after a bit more discussion, a present ally made a bid to get me out and I got away due to what I think was a glitch allowing me to make tumble checks while under the effects of a tanglefoot bag.
I was much later told by a PC who was present that the DM had told them, in response to the wisdom check, that I was probably telling the truth. They had gotten the highest roll.
Early in my EFU Career I made a 13 charisma Duergar rogue who was an "Art Dealer" in lower sanctuary who in fact was a thief, filling hollow statues with gems and relics.
As time went on however and matters turned more grim he styled himself a "Freedom Fighter" with a mister Joe Boggs, taking over an old abandoned Drow Headquarters as a base of operations for semi-terrorist efforts. These efforts were planned to take on the Ledskyr Moneylenders who had been ruling Lower with an iron hand.
While near an alleyway a Shakedown was overseen. In effort to aid two people being shaken down by the notorious Battleload, a Coughing bag and some other trinkets were thrown and a small scuffle was had.
Outraged that they had been hit by the coughing bag, the two people he was trying to save from being mugged ended up joining Ledskyr's boys in stomping him down.
R.I.P. Lower Sanctuary.
A few moments stick out:
In the earlier days of EfU:A, Mort ran a quest for Nivik (Plum) and Fipya in which the two of them alone descended deep beneath the Ziggurat and gained some important hints/clues in regards to the Nightrisers and other mysteries of Ymph.
Eventually we found a room where some Nightriser was plugging away at some ancient Netherese computer or something. I think it's the first time I heard the word darkening. I also think that the Symbiants or whatever they were called (white skinned lizard men and their sperm babies) were sort of introduced there... but I could be wrong. Was the first time I saw them.
It was probably my first special DM adventure in EfU and it's something I'll never forget.

Another memory I will always take with me is an adventure involving the group Roslyn Honeysapper descended into the Underdark with. An amazing cast, I do not think I could have been in better company. Veteran C, Caddies, Staring Death, Wern, and others...
From beholder near TPKs to dueling Drow Weapon Masters, it was an epic journey. But one of the things that made it special was an incident that actually pissed me off quite a bit. We were attacked by a gang of drow, scattered, and many of us killed. I had managed to hide Roslyn but a drow ninja zombie pirate found her and wasted her.
Bottom line, from my perspective was that it felt like a bullshit DM railroad gank, and I bitched about it. But then I ended up eating crow when it turned out that the DM turned it into a marvelous, well run plot that won't be forgotten. I learned a really big EfU lesson that day and grew into the community moreso than I had before. I don't know who ran that, but thanks so much for it!
Finally, mentioned before: When Aishe and Camille rushed to Trenada's side when the Count betrayed him. That whole sequence of events was amazing, and after playing so many nature PCs, it was extremely rewarding to see my first Stygian do so well.
Keep rock rock rockin on, EfU.
If we want more specific, I'll tell a story! Playing Kiyiya Minqua, there was a Werewolf PC around. We were both like level 4 when we first met and he spotted me through my stealth and came out of stealth himself to howl right next to me- I, not really paying attention and hunting a few deer in the starwood, promptly shat myself and we both started chugging potions.
After a pretty intense duel, I managed to make him run away. Later, though, we were both stalking the city and, suddenly, I spotted him- and seconds later, he spotted me. Another intense fight, this one bringing in a random passer by. I drank an invis, so he downed the player in the hopes I'd come to his help. Both of us hidden, circling a subdued character, an amazingly tense and dramatic moment, especially more so considering I was basically out of supplies but couldn't leave the dude to the werewolf.
Then, months of nothing. We both knew the other was on, we both continually stalked the forests looking for each-other, but, higher level now, our stealth was much better than our spot/listen. I never forgot my furry friend though and regularly patrolled. Then! A long, long time after our first few duels, I spotted him again. This time, I had the upper hand but, remembering him coming out and howling the first time we met, I appeared behind him as he aimlessly stalked and screamed "AIIIIEEEEE!".
After this, we fought a few more times in the Starwood; but no matter who won, we just didn't have the strength or supplies to subdue the other. It was pretty evenly balanced depending on our supplies and I made sure always to carry magic weapon stuff on me, even collecting GMW stuff.
But, yes! An amazingly intense rivalry and one of my funnest experiences on EfU, between two characters whose most complicated conversation was screaming and howling. Not being a very PvP heavy player, it was really something new and fresh and really showed me what could be gained from adding that level of risk to the story.
And even now I still have no idea who played the Werewolf!
