Title: Bahamut not a valid deity.
Post by: Pup on November 13, 2011, 12:20:52 AM
The system does not recognize Bahamut as a valid deity.  Nor can you select him from the lists in the character starting area.  As he is listed among the other deities on the forums, I assume this is a bug.

Howland likely removed this atrocious deity from the EFU pantheon.

Bahamut is not a deity, but rather a very powerful celestial in 3.5, which is what EFU is based off of.

That is true Spiffy, but after the time of trouble IIRCly he regained lesser deity status, but most of his followers were dragonkin and the rare few human priests he had were taught by that of a dragon, gold or silver... so it is likely that followers have to go through an application so they don't begin popping up everywhere.

A side note IIRCly, he didn't begin to have a real following of humans until sometime after the beginning of the Spell Plague, but can't remember when exactly.

So it likely isn't a bug, more just a control method.

No, he's a god. A weak god of wisdom, wind and good dragons, but definitely a god. He has clerics, paladins, but only a small following outside draconic races.

He is also not an atrocious deity. 4.0 makes everything look bad, and I doubt many even heard about Bahamut until it came out, and thus labeled the good dragon deity as a piece of shit along with everything else in that book. To be honest I'm annoyed in general with this belief that a deity that is not "RAWR EVIL! DOMINATE AND CORRUPT ALL!" is a horrible deity.

He's a god like any other. It matters how you play them.

He is repetitive and serves no purpose in the EFU pantheon, as most of our dragons are evil.

That argument can be made for any form of deity, but I guess it's up to the DMs, making him an app deity seems sound.

Not entirely true, but even if it was true, all the better for a Bahamutian. They are the opposite of Tiamatians, after all. They don't revere chromatics, they kill them.

Dragonslayer is a pretty cool concept.

The dragons in THIS setting sure, but good aligned dragons/bahamut play an important role in elvish history, and the Metallics are allies of Evermeet - so you can't really say good aligned dragons don't exist. There's just none on Ymph.

Though, to be fair, I cannot for the life of me think of a feasible or good character concept involving him.

There was a goodly Bronze Dragon in EFU, whose actions almost saved Sanctuary.

Good dragons are certainly not as common as their evil cousins, but they certainly do exist in EFU. Perhaps that Bronze Dragon worhshipped Bahamut?

Following Bahamut would be unusual. But no more unusual than a great number of concepts in EFU.

How in blazes did this discussion get started?

Bahamut is a deity, like it or not. He's listed in the monster deities thread in the Realmslore section. The fact that you can't select him is either a bug or due to some other reason, which you can all blab about guessing at it but is going to have to be pointed out by a DM anyway.

Should be valid within a couple of resets.
