Is it possible to set these bushes to act similar to say caltrops if a PC walks over them?
I think it would be kinda cool, “Avoid the demonthorns, they can hurt!â€
Just a thought…
I like it. In fact I planted a bunch around a patch of other plants in an effort to "ward off" other people from picking plants. Of course, people just walked around and picked them clean anyway.
From my understanding both OOC and IC, the Demonthron bush is kinda like Nettles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nettle). Therefore it is not really thorny, like say - a rose bush or briars.
Besides, certain types of armor would completely protect you from them... pretty much everything greater than cloth.

So too would a set of plate hard soled boots yet caltrops still get ya. Besides, a sharp thorn that gets stuck in a joint of plate armor may even be worse than just stepping on it.
I mostly wanted to know if it were even possible mechanically. *Shrugs*
It is if you remember the little acid puddles from the UD.
A caltrop is a metal object specifically designed to impede horse/troop movements. Not a plant trying to keep something from eating it.
But as realism isn't really a viable argument in a fantasy setting, I have no problem with this, other than leading to insane amounts of these being planted solely to harvest caltrops.
It would be pretty easy to add a check that damages people when the plant is harvested. I'm not interested in, as Pup pointed out, bushes being used as barricades.
Yeah, I was never quite sure why caltrops effected people wearing plate...
But regardless, my point is ICly I've been playing them as if they were basically like Nettles, not a literally thorny bush. If I was wrong in that IC observation it would be nice to be corrected!
