Heya,
I was wondering and have been noticing a trend on servers. I have played for a long time since the game came out more or less.
I notice a server begins gets popular or at least stable.. which is great!
Then something strange happens... the senior players get to high levels and then the server rules change usually by the senior players saying its to easy to level up and a reduction in exp.. I know one server that got the elite which is laughable player base and then changed all the rules locking the upper crust in power.
Some of the senior plays seem don't want any form of competition.
Along comes a new player and finds its hard.. damn hard.
Server becomes an elite upper level crust of the few. Server dies.
I am not saying this about this server but just as a general question on what people think.
Anyone else notice this?
Nope. I'm new and ca see ways to easily inject myself into power/spotlight ig if i were after it. i think the rules here accomodate everyone well. But I could be mistaken.
First you fail, then you struggle, then you level, then a potion quaffing DM possessed NPC sets you back, then you struggle some more, then you start getting places.
That's my experience at least.
The only real advantages that senior players have over new ones on the server as far as I can tell is meta-knowledge of zones and mechanics along with DM loot. Otherwise it's a level playing field once people get the hang of it.
I for one have never played nwn outside of efu. However on efu atleast I really can't see this happening, with the rate of character turnover generally, "An uppercrust elite" will always die out. The server has been going years and years and thus far I have seen no indication of this elitist rule change thing. In fact many successful players have been such since they first arrived.
I think that it's pretty easy to get to 6th. You can do it just by walking around. After that, I think things are fair game. I actually feel quite the contrary to what you are saying. I love the new system, it gets you to 6th quickly and then you have to focus.
The high cut get killed really fast, their characters albeit cool and fun while they last, have an impact but one that barely lasts.
I've played on a server like that as well. Trust me, we're very aware of that tendency!
Server policies are established to bring the greatest amount of fun to the greatest amount of people.
If a player has been super high level for a long time and suddenly says that getting high level is too easy, we'll obviously see that as a very different perspective than someone else's.
I doubt this will happen on EFU. Our Dms are far to professional!
High lvl pc's die way too fast, trust me. Ones that last more then a month at a high lvl are rare. Live like courage wolf, let nothing get you down.
It's something we are aware of and try to avoid.
As BOM said we try to build for the majority of players, not for a few. New players should hit lvl6 rather easily. Vets still get crushed at high lvls, so i don't think this is an issue on efu, yet. But should someone get the feeling we're getting there, feel free to share that with us.
That doesn't mean it's not the same regular few to hit high lvls, but so long it isn't unbalancing or creating occ conflict, it's no big deal.
EFU as a whole has always tried to be immensely considerate of new players, whether it's realized or not. It won't change.
That being said it can feel very challenging for new players, but I assure you it's not less so for higher levels, they've just gotten used to it. If you ever want help or advice just ask.
In my first post I stated I havent run into that here and dont feel it will be an issue. Its just a shame how so many "Virtual Worlds" have dropped.
This one is more like classic PnP than any other I have come across except maybe two.
The first one is now defunct. The second was great until the above mentioned problem happened in my first post. Open cheating by dms and bad treatment of players will take it down in time, unless the staff has a eureka moment.
Loving the vibe. I hope in time perhaps maybe lol the staff here cross connects Ravenloft. The island has a better feel than for that atmosphere than any other out there.
When I first arrived I felt heavy Ravenloft vibes too but I assure you this place is far superior to POTM. Player freedom, for one.

Amen!
Also no sitting in the outskirts arms crossed.
Halt! Vallaki Garda!
The monsters are very tough here but the people are very nice.
don't bad mouth and/or compare other servers to efu, it's far superior

It's really great to hear this from a new player. I think the EFU community should give itself a little pat on the back!
I, for probably the first time ever, feel like I owe it to the entirity of the server to simply say thanks. Ever since my first day I've felt incredibly welcome here, the ooc courtesy and general niceness of both players and dms has been nothing short of tremendous.
I've been here a while now, can't even remember exactly how long anymore, but it keeps surprising me just how friendly everyone is. So, thanks.
And to not be entirely off-topic: as far as I've noticed, the "upper crust" does tend to die out or retire, and start anew with something completely different, so I really can't foresee any issues with that. And it keeps the power balance in constant motion. Frankly, I love it.
People have their own comfort as far as character longevity goes.
Some people like permanent characters, others like to play a series of shorter ones.
It all comes down to your preference as a player!
from the eyes of someone new
myself i have found efu no different than any other of the better servers, there is no real favouritism as far as i can tell so far (there is likely less than i have seen on some other servers to tell you the truth)...and i do not expect that to change
if one is careful level 7 or even 8 seem well within ones grasp in a very short period of time, but then again, those who know me know i play at a different pace than others and gains are not measured in weeks or even months, and i am one of those players who prefers to stick with a character a very very long time, letting the flotsam and jetsam of the game mould what my character will eventually become.
the primary goal of any new player is to make friends and allies .. i am new to efu m,i had tried briefly the other earlier versions but did not like them, this one has captured my imagination for various reasons, one, it is significantly easier to find other players/characters here (even if they are forced by rp convention to dislike you) the areas are easier to navigate
some of the player base here is quite helpful, some..not so much
it has not been all smooth sailing however, but if you can weather the rough bits you will find it good here (ok, i am not speaking off of experience since i am very new myself, but i am familiar with some of the dms and some of the other players, from someplace else, so i feel i can speak with some experience based off of pleasant encounters with other players/dms)
i have run into many who have been helpful to a fault (but sadly my first few times here were met with tells from a few who seemed almost to have the intent of chasing me off, i know that is not the general view of the players, and may have reflected them having a bad day and decided to warn or take it out on the new person, i cannot tell what their motives were. but those willing to aid greatly outnumber those who were not)
also i do play and will continue to play on other servers, and i can give what i feel a honest critique of each is, strong and weak points, in many areas you should be proud EFU M in my rankings is either tied, or surpasses the other two, it may lose in some minor points, but remember this is based off of my criteria, and i do not like pvp and combat, yet..two of my favourites feature that..go figure (i like the server enough that i decided to put in a application, something i do not do when i enter a new server, and it is something i do not do very often, i may even try to re apply in a couple months..who knows..and i may even start a journal with drawings in it, but..that will be for my next character.....so some may have to wait some time before they see me making in game drawings of their characters and posting them on this forum)
