Title: Scion gloves unenchantable
Post by: Nihm on February 08, 2012, 05:57:19 AM
Whatever gloves the Scion wears, though gaining 1-4 slashing damage, can't be enchanted.

I suggest replacing this part of the perk with a pair of nondrop gloves to avoid this.  Up the power of the gloves a bit to make up for not being able to use the many available spellslot bracers or damaging gloves available in game.

Sorcerors can use morningstars or spears for d8 damage without having to pay a feat (Improved Unarmed Strike), so for that reason also the gloves could be a bit stronger.

Have you tried enchanting the gloves before you put them on?

Imp. Unarmed strike is mostly a flavor feat, You get the same benefit the feat gives by just wearing gloves or bracers.

If the gloves can't be added flame weapon to or weapon enchantment, then I'll have to figure out something to help them.

I can enchant them with Magic Weapon now, but Flame Weapon when cast seemingly erases the slashing damage, replacing it.

The glove I attempted to use Flame Weapon with has no elemental damage of its own, so there is no complication from that.

I was originally wrong, Magic Weapon will work if cast on the character rather than on the gloves themselves.  The only bug then is the Flame Weapon not stacking with the Slashing damage.

Neither magic weapon nor flame weapon will work if targetted on the actual gloves.

Flame weapon will be accepted if cast on the character, but will overwrite the slashing damage.

Does magic weapon work on targeted gloves that are not scion bound? Flame weapon?

It is the worst thing to find out that something is "fixed" when you've not even touched the script. So thanks a lot for the help in clarifying what's happening, Nihm, it's helping a lot.

Seems gloves cannot be enchanted directly (by clicking the spell on the glove item itself) no matter what, Scion or not.

A non-scion with a glove that's been (indirectly, by targetting the spell on the character not the glove) enchanted with Magic Weapon, receives two scripts on the glove identifying it as having plus one enhancement bonus and one bludgeoning bonus damage.

When the pc receives Flaming Weapon, that Bludgeoning bonus script is removed in favor of the elemental damage script.  So it seems this isn't a Scion-specific bug, they just lose more because of it.

Glove (scion or not) - only enchantable indirectly, can only take one kind of damage addition

Weapons - enchantable directly or indirectly.  Script on the weapon itself (morningstar in this case) only shows Flame Weapon additional damage.  Magic Weapon damage for a weapon is shown only on the character sheet not the weapon itself (plus one physical damage in the case of morningstar).  Physical damage from magic weapon and elemental damage from Flame Weapon do stack since there isn't a conflict on the weapon itself.

See if flame weapon works now. Don't target the gloves.

The Slashing bonus damage stayed on the glove, the elemental damage (acid) from Flame Weapon didn't apply at all.

The added slashing damage now coexists happily with the elemental damage from Flame Weapon.

There are a few unimportant bugs still which could as easily remain without affecting much, and I'll add those to this thread when I'm more sure of them.

Logging out will remove the slashing damage from the gloves, but it can be regained by resting.  Actually resting seems to restore all of the perk changes if they are somehow lost, or didn't automatically get applied after reaching the needed level.  It seems to be a universal fix for perk trouble.

If Magic Weapon expires from the glove, the Slashing Damage dissapears with it.

I don't understand this issue. Monks never had a problem before, so why aren't these sorcerers just given a pair of non-drop gloves upon perk selection with the proper damage bonus applied to them? Has something changed, and will this be effecting monks who wear gloves as well?

Monks get base damage, not damage based on the glove itself, that's the difference.  It will not affect monks.

In the standard game gloves couldn't be enchanted at all, and there is also a script that prevents Flame Weapon from stacking with a weapon that already has elemental damage.  Those things together probably make it troublesome.

The Scion is meant to use unarmed strikes with slightly better effect than using a sickle or mace would give other types of sorceror.  Nondrop gloves would be a simpler way to achieve that I think - but then the Scion forfeits use of the many types of interesting gloves or bracers available.

As of now the bugs are slight enough it's worthwhile to use.

PC Name: Isabelle Jolivet
GSID: Scionic

Resurrecting this Scion bug thread with the report that Dispel Magic apparently can strip your scion abilities. Was in a quest, walked over a dispel magic trap, looked at my gloves and scion ability was gone. Resting brought them back but still- having your ability stripped in the middle of the quest not good.

Any way to fix this?

Thanks!
