Title: Wither levels
Post by: bigx2 on April 11, 2012, 07:58:33 PM
On my EFUdrunkdorf account my PC Norgen Ironeater has some wither issues.  He was in moderate and over a two day period has 12 remove curses cast on him and was still at moderate.  Is this correct.  I did only a few quests out of the mist area.  I do have custom DM loot necklace "left Eye of Dumathoin" from Jayde that may be having some affect.

It seems about right. The Withering is a terrible beast even for the most prepared, and if allowed to fester becomes extremely hard to combat.

I have a suspicion that Remove Curse is not working correctly. About three weeks ago, a character of mine moved up a Withering stage while questing in an area of, IIRC, "grating" itch level (it was Tower of Mercy).

After finishing the quest I logged out (this is about 30-60 minutes after having gotten the message indicating I had moved up a stage). When I next logged in, the server had reset and I was in Mistlocke. The character in question cast Remove Curse on himself twice (at caster level eight) and I saw no change in Withering level.

It takes a lot of effort to remove it once it festers... or I am suffering from the same. My character reached heavily withered stage on a long DM quest and got back to moderate with three removals. Since then it took me 25+ removals within ten days to stop it from getting back to heavily withered, though I couldn't reach a lower stage yet. I put that on spending a lot of time in the wilds or indeed something is wrong here.

I think this is just the Withering taking its toll on the human body more than it is a bug. I've used ~15 teas after hitting heavy and wasn't anywhere near being out of moderate so far as I could tell.

That is about accurate. I had a similar problem on my wilds barbarian, Kara Arashil, who was known to live right on the border between moderate and heavy just because of how damned hard it was to fight. It took the combined effort of all wilderness characters just to break even with its rate of advancement, and questing became a necessary part of survival not about loot or the deed, but with the sole focus of getting coins for withering cures. One time we managed to stockpile a HUGE ammount of remove curses, and used them all at once. They do work, but it takes a lot to get from moderate to light in one sitting, and if you're out in the withered areas between... well... then it takes even more yet. I'm not going to give exact numbers, but trust my experience, remove curse does work. The withering is scary, and the longer you let it grow, the worse it gets. Cut it down when it is fresh before starting to show any symptoms at all!

Update:
Upon receiving another half dozen remove curses, Norgren reported that the wither tool showed him down a level.  When I used the withering diagnosis tool on him, I saw no change.

I recall there are different things that has been said on these forums before.

Level of the removal, level of withering and etc. Who knows what else affects all that. It may not be as easy to remove withering in later stages, as it is in early. Even less so with low level removals.
