Post by: Voluminous Cloak on May 06, 2012, 11:31:59 PM
Is not stopping Petrification as described by the Mechanics page!

It prevents the spell not creature abilities.

Should prevent creature abilities as well imo!

If this is so, then it should be made on the mechanics page well known- SPELL IMMUNITY FLESH TO STONE-

Not "Immunity to Petrification!"

I don't think it does, Baeric. Or Protection from Evil would have to work similarly against this evil creature, but it doesn't.

Sounds like either it's a bug, or the wording of "Immunity to Petrification" is incorrect. Because it's rather subtle, isn't it? There is no spell called "Petrification". There's "Stonehold" and there's "Flesh to Stone". It doesn't say "Immunity to Stonehold," so much as it does "Immunity to [a status effect]." One of the two must be wrong; either the spell change, or the documentation of the spell change. I think that most people would prefer for the spell change to be wrong since that gives us all a better shot against Cockatrice et alii.

Here's something interesting (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Petrified%22): "Petrification is one of the more insidious effects because there is no immunity that protects from petrification itself. The only defenses against this effect pertain to the spell or ability that inflicts it, such as a saving throw or immunity to the spell/ability in question (e.g. immunity to the specific spell flesh to stone.)"

It goes on to say that the script for Petrification automatically excludes certain creatures based on their appearance, such as skeletons, golems, and creatures that have petrification abilities (medusa, et aliae.)

Would it be possible to change the petrification script itself to include base character race appearances on condition that they have the Freedom of Movement spell applied to them? That sounds like a challenge! I bet $5 that not even Johannes could do it.
