Title: Disguise Kit
Post by: lovethesuit on July 05, 2012, 06:54:17 AM
I may be biased here, but I would really like to see a Disguise Kit implemented.

We already have access to a SetHead command. I want to be able to make cosmetic changes to head, phenotype, colour, race, etc. on the fly. It would be incredibly valuable both for actual disguises and for acting/performances.

In order to prevent abuse, have minimum Bluff requirements for the more complicated things. Changing head (aka Hair) would be relatively easy (Bluff 10). Disguising a human as a half-orc or elf (Bluff 15) would be easier than disguising as a gnome (Bluff 30). But, it would give people something to work towards.

This could combine with an EFUSS "Disguise" that adds a straight bonus for people absolutely focused on using this option.

Ugh, I really hope EFU never has disguise kits, even on my roguey PC's I would prefer not to have access to it.

I've played on other PW's that had something like this. To be blunt, it was horrible (and implemented not so very differently than suggested here).

Why?

Because the disguises became used for silly things. Every second PC seemed to be a master of disguise (influenced the way people made/built their character for the obvious POWER of the disguise kit).

You can already get enough of a disguise by changing armor/clothing/helmet and RPing your Bluff/whatever.

If it was good enough to fool PC's (ie, including name change) without a DM present it would just descend to a similarly silly level.

hmmm...
maybe it could happen only with really high investment both in perform and bluff... and there should be app to make use of it as well.

this way I guess things would not be silly and we'd have some interesting flavor added.

This would be cosmetic changes, based on mechanics that are already in the game but restricted.

I think that there is not necessarily a causal connection between the introduction of a Disguise Kit and "silly behaviour", however you might define that.

The "POWER" of the disguise kit is not really obvious to me. I thought it would be a neat RP tool, you're making it out to be some sort of killer app without really explaining why.

One would hope that our player base has more maturity than whichever server you are talking about.

Sorry, let me explain better. I mean that it tends to make using a disguise become a much more casual thing, something that is built torwards. Similarly to when a new wave of perks are released and everyone plays that class nonstop for a few months.

But in this case, adding that function tied to class-skills will, after then, encourage more concepts which are "masters of disguise". It is very easy for people to misunderstand what the disguise kit is to be used for and use it in undesirable ways.

That's all I meant by it, and why I prefer to leave it as something you accomplish by covering yourself in different clothes/with assistance from DM ect. At least that way it is not something you will do casually for little good reason.

It might be interesting to make it a Rogue perk then.

Definitely! That would be pretty awesome actually. It would fit in well for a level 5 perk, against the other freebie "gadgets" several of the level 5 perks have.

What ever happened to the pot helm and robe? Works every time.

Hey man, pot helm and robe works just fine. And we could probably do without fighter perks because that class is already overpowered. But sometimes it's nice to have nice things!

Where is the rp gone that you have to ask for scripted things all the time?

I like neat gizmos and gadgets and scripts. So what? That's fun to me.
