The weapon is currently just a copy-paste of the bastard sword, and so I'd like to propose some variety by making the weapon a Large sized one so that it's to be wielded with two hands.
Since it takes a feat to use it and does less damage than a great sword, not to mention being an extremely difficult weapon to find, I think the threat range should be increased to 18-20, or the multiplier to a x3(although this might be much too overpowered).
Fun fact: In Japan those who used shields were considered cowards and thus samurais only ever fought with weapons in hand, typically with katanas being used with both hands.
Confirmed. I'll basically leave if this isn't done.
I support this.
I feel like this is a great idea, but wouldn't it be a little awkward to implement?
I agree with this.
EDIT : Oh well I meant ''I agree with the idea of improving the critical ranger and make it a two-handed weapon.'' Glad to see that it isn't a problem to modify though.
Why awkward? The quarterstaff has been changed into a double-weapon and it's crit range increased to 19-20 with no issue.
Halfings/gnome already dual-wield these for awesomeness, and the setting sort of doesn't encourage their use in any case - as a counterpoint.
Having nodachi and wakizashi as separate weapons would be cool, like kukri, but that all takes large scripts to get around it, or haks.
Not doable without haks, and the hak'd versions are bugged and won't accept enchants or feats IIRC.
There actually were wooden shields used in Japan, small sized generally. But for asian flair I suggest Shou Lung which is Golden Age Fantasy China, who have heavy armor and shields and weapons comperable to what exists in game/western faerun culture already.

Tridents were made one handed. Quarterstaves were made dual-weapons. None of them require haks. Wouldn't that be possible for this?
ScottyB once looked into making a voice command script that would allow players to calculate katana (and bastard sword) damage as though they were 2-handed weapons, while the off-hand is free.
It seems nothing much ever came of it.
Seems silly. Katanas are almost non-existent in EfUM. If you own and do awesome things with a katana you will be rewarded. With a sweet katana. No need for any changes imo.
Also, I get the idea, it just seems unnecessary. Little folk can already wield them two-handed, and they are still pretty nice anyways. We got plenty of two-handed options and changing this just seems like a power-build work-around....
I play a cleric, currently. I would say that one handed weapons has -far- more options.
Played a Katana weapon master, if you like that weapon so much and use it, a DM can reward you with one that you cannot use with a shield.
There were two kinds of katana, one that could only be wielded with both hands (no-dachi if I'm correct), and the one we have in NWN, which was wielded along with a short sword (wakizashi). So the current one does not need to be modified, if anything a new type can be added.
Besides, this is pretty much irrelevant, since there are surely no katanas in EFU.
Halfling Samurai Inc
Being as this would affect a PC I am currently playing, I say "no thank you".
Ugh, there is no katanas in efu. Only "exotic blades from the east". Try not to ruin the atmosphere for others......... Typical.
I say katana because that's the IG name of the weapon, and there -are- katanas in EfU. There are mobs that even use them. Katanas are widely represented as blades of Netherese origin IG.
